Uzbek Cotton

I was very pleased indeed with the report on Newsnight last night. I thought the discomfiting of the commercial companies pretending they didn't know was exemplary television. Minister Gareth Thomas' attempt to convey concern and pretend this was news to the government, when I reported it in detail to them in 2002 and was told to shut up, almost made me physically retch.

You can watch it here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_4670000/newsid_4679900/4679986.stm?bw=bb&mp=wm&news=1
although I fear that link will only work for one day. If anyone knows how to Youtube it or otherwise save it, that would be good.

Meanwhile the Guardian has picked up on the government's stonewalling of Jeremy Corbyn over Usmanov:

Arsenal supporters need to press their own MPs on this. You can do this by entering your postcode on this website http://www.theyworkforyou.com/ then clicking on "send a message to your MP" in the first box about him.

I watched this last night and was greatly amused by certain people having a distaste for 'political' questions.

More reports by Daniel Ostrovsky from Uzbekistan on tonight's Newsnight. Promises from Matalan, Asda George & Sir Philip Green that they will look into the matter (let's ensure this gets followed up...), and Craig quoted calling for an EU ban on Uzbek cotton.

What, with that feature and an excellent investigation of Labour's vote-buying in Birmingham in the May local elections (including, testimony of a drug addict that Labour had driven him around polling stations and given him a fiver for every time he impersonated a local voter!), the best Newsnight I have seen for some time. Is there a new editor or something?

good report but why didnt they mention that Craig had reported all this in his book 2 years ago would it have detracted from newsnights scoop?

GOOD NEWS. Continental Clothing has decided to BOYCOTT Uzbek cotton. WELL DONE. THANK YOU FOR BEING MORE UNDERSTANDABLE OF CHILD SLAVERY IN UZBEKISTAN THAN FAT GUYS IN UZBEK GOVERNMENT.
