    Wow!

Certainly not boring, and I needed cheering up after the post about the NHS with the side-reference to the fact Student Unions no longer exist in their natural state, to my mind the single nastiest thing about living in this country now.

Also I was not at all bored about Burns, I just couldn’t think of an appropriate response, and I doubt I will be able to resist reading it. Congratulations for your persistence.

The influence of Masonry needs to be better understood.

Congratulations for both your wife and your new book, in that order. You’ve a lot to be happy about!

Uncle Craig. Sometimes potty but never boring. 🙂

    Some Gossip here.

    Thanks John.

    johngossip.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/death-barons.htmlIn a nutshell!

All part of a conversation that is going feral. Yes, let’s feed the meme.

Since we’re on holiday I’m tempted to break the family rules and leave a comment there too, beyond my usual limited range. But I I have to wash Dad’s Gulfstream G500, AGAIN!

Now that the Eye has turned it’s multiple-focus on the mineral riches of the Sahel, spare a thought for all those beautiful human individuals and cultures in the path of the monster.

And thanks Craig for keeping Africa in the picture.

“Is this the new advert for the vote ‘Yes’ campaign?”

Well, I think it is the perfect argument for those who want Scotland to have its own more liberal immigration policy!

  • Ian

You have a very lovely wife… Wasn’t so keen on the provocative poses with chains and handcuffs, though. The fetishism of torture? By an Uzbek, and on a blog which has done much good work exposing the realities of torture?

Sorry if I’ve dampened the mood a bit. Just found that sequence a little troubling.

  • Phil

OK, you win. This is beyond parody. I am genuinely at a loss. Is this:

    – a joke?
    – a pop song advert?
    – a cigarette advert?
    – human rights activism?
    – trophy wife w**kfest?

I couldn’t agree more. Who came up with that distasteful idea?

  • craig Post author

    Ian.

I have no idea what that sequence was about, but I think you need to switch off from politics from time to time – it’s like reading meaning into a game of fottball.

Canaries have gone down, because they’d bought at least two pups who did not perform as expected, the team could not gel. Unless they get an experienced premiere league manager/trainer and start building a team, not worship the ground individual footballers walk on, they will not get back up into the top league.

  • Clark

“Wasn’t so keen on the provocative poses with chains and handcuffs…”

If Nadira wishes to perform such material it is her right to do so and entirely up to her.

  • Pete

@ Ian “provocative poses with chains and handcuffs, though… Just found that sequence a little troubling.”

Like it or not, a very large proportion of men AND women enjoy such imagery, and BDSM fantasy imagery has as much to do with real torture as normal sex has to do with rape. BTW, strictly speaking it’s only “provocative” if it turns you on, otherwise there’s nothing to provoke. If I personally was going to be offended it would be by the smoking, since that was presumably real. But it’s a matter of taste, isn’t it, just that that bloke said about the scallops and oysters in Spartacus.

  • Abe Rene

I must say that I was uneasy about the chains and handcuffs as well. I wouldn’t want to youngsters to be exposed to such imagery.

Dear oh dear, what a humourless, joyless lot they are (:

I’m fully expecting someone to come up with a reference to Guantanamo or Israeli prisons before the day’s out.

    Clark,

“If Nadira wishes to perform such material it is her right to do so and entirely up to her.”

Quite agree. Don’t believe that I said anything to the contrary.

Not knowing anything about the context of that sequence, I certainly didn’t condemn it. Merely expressed some surprise and noted why. Is that not permitted?

    Craig,

“I have no idea what that sequence was about, but I think you need to switch off from politics from time to time – it’s like reading meaning into a game of fottball.”

Fair enough. Just found it somewhat peculiar. Still do.

    Pete,

“Like it or not, a very large proportion of men AND women enjoy such imagery, and BDSM fantasy imagery has as much to do with real torture as normal sex has to do with rape.”

Yes, am well aware of that. How could one not be given the recent popularity of such books as “Fifty Shades of Grey”?

While it might not be to my tastes, I don’t much mind what consenting adults do amongst themselves to derive their pleasure. To each their own.

Still, I would find it odd if a rape victim were to engage in the enactment of a simulated rape scene which had been intended to be sexually arousing. That is not to say that any hypothetical rape victim should be prevented from freely choosing to do so.

“BTW, strictly speaking it’s only “provocative” if it turns you on, otherwise there’s nothing to provoke.”

Yes, poor wording on my part. Perhaps I should have said something like “poses which seemed designed to be provocative”.

  • Herbie

Covered a lot of angles there. Even a nip slip.

I’m surprised no one has suggested it might be an ironic piece. Kinda post kitsch.

But anyway, Nadira certainly showed that she can slip into celeb mode with ease.

    Very stylish, beautiful woman.
