Counter-Revolution 712

What we are seeing in Egypt is counter-revolution pure and simple, military hardliners who are going to be friendly with Israel and the US, and are committing gross human rights abuse.

Western backed counter-revolution is going to be sweeping back across the Middle East; do not be distracted by the words of the West, watch the deeds.  It will of course be in the name of secularism.  There is an important correlation between what is happening in Turkey and Egypt.  I made myself unpopular when I pointed out what the media did not tell you, that behind the tiny minority of doe-eyed greens in the vanguard of the Istanbul movement, stood the massed phalanxes of kemalist nationalism, a very ugly beast.  “Secularism” was the cry there too.

I must watch “The Great Dictator”

“You the people have the power…”

    Right on!

Re Egypt images. Emperor’s new clothes moment?

  • Fred

“Re Egypt images. Emperor’s new clothes moment?”

I must congratulate them on the quality of their banners. Must have cost a fortune.

But to my mind there’s something about professionally made signs and grass roots demonstrations that don’t just go together. Written on a bed sheet in poster paints would have influenced me more.

She brought me into this world
Her love more precious than any diamond or pearl
She was my shield to the rain
And she could heal my every pain
Her smile lightened my every day
And fought my biggest fears away.

    We love you Mum.

Stop banging on about international ‘law’. It’s a fiction – we don’t have a world government.

  • nevermind

Thanks for that Mark, welling stuff that.
Back to Egypt and its gumptious population led by the nose by the military, one way or other, at least they are out there as one, speaking out and affecting change.

Whatever the result of this cauldron, or the smell it emits during the cooking process, once its done, the contents will have to be eaten or else, it gets kicked into the sand.

How far are other societies in this process of recognition, facing up to the inevitabilities of being controlled?

  • Uzbek in the UK

    IMPORTANT.

Under pressure from Russia to reduce number of 5 million migrant seasonal workers from Uzbekistan Uzbek government started crackdown on Uzbek migrant workers. Uzbek local officials have started to collect information on those who are working abroad (primarily in Russia and Kazakhstan) and it is believed that families of these men (as it is usually men who go to work abroad) are being interrogated.

This all was preceded by the Karimov’s interview to the local media where he called Uzbek migrant workers “lazybones who are going abroad to earn easy money and do not bother to find a job in Uzbekistan”.

More information is here, in Russian.

    http://www.fergananews.com/articles/7775

To add here it is believe that around 5 million migrant workers contribute over 10 billion USD to the economy of Uzbekistan providing back marker in Uzbekistan with hard currency that is then exchanges to imported goods.

    http://nsnbc.me/2013/07/05/mohamed-morsi-arrested-israel-fears-its-honeymoon-is-over-only-a-fe/

“Of course, the Egyptians realize the danger of certain extremist, heavily armed elements; they did not remove former president, Hosni Mubarak, to replace one dictator with another. And they did not rebel against Morsi to replace him with an extremist.

They are seeking their ultimate goal of real liberation, real democracy and equality.

The Egyptians removed a one-man rule, a dictator, to live in dignity, not to be ruled by another form of dictatorship.”

    “democracy is democracy”

“Posted by a fool who doesn’t understand the term “political science”.

Quite obviously, one implementation of a democratic political system can be radically different to another and furthermore, produce regimes that are significantly unrepresentative of the majority of a well-informed public.

Who decides who is and who isn’t representative?”

“Let’s not get too sentimental over romanticised notions of “democracy”. Putin was democratically elected, after all.”

So Jemand you are one of those right-wing wankers that only believes in democracy when it gives the result you want.

If I’m wrong please let me and the other posters know what your stance on democracy is.

  • Fred

It doesn’t matter, they can elect who they like it doesn’t matter, it’s the army that controls Egypt and it’s America that controls the army.

  • Habbabkuk (La vita è bella)

    @ Arebed :

“Cross-posting from previous thread and off-topic – sorry, but I’d dearly love to hear other people’s take on this:

“Bolivia has REJECTED a formal US extradition request for Snowden:”
    ________

Not really a take, just a reminder that I predicted this on the previous thread.
I also predicted that Ecuador will the next to try and wriggle off the Julian Assange hook. Wait and see.
Remeber : you read it here first!

  • Abe Rene

@Dogg Scorgie “Do you believe that because the US/UK/Israel don’t like the election winners of a country they have a right to force out that elected government?”

Governments have a responsility to their own people, including their use of resources. For the UK, joining the US in its invasions was too expensive IMO. Israel couldn’t afford anything beyond limited special operations (like knocking out nuclear facilities in unfriendly countries in the region).

In principle, as Henry Kissinger said, “I don’t see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist because of the irresponsibility of its own people.” Substitute “Islamist” and the same applies.

However I would prefer Communist or Islamist governments to be thrown out by their own people, which happily happened here.

  • Arbed

Is that the real Habbabkuk? Spelling isn’t up to usual standard so I wonder maybe an imposter? Especially as the post misses the point entirely – it’s the US’s request that Bolivia has rejected, not Snowden’s asylum application.

Rafael Correa too has insisted the Guardian correct its article based on Rory Carroll’s interview. Correa had a tape recording, which shows he never criticised either Snowden or Assange; confirmed that as far as Ecuador was concerned Snowden’s asylum application is still ‘live’ if he can reach their territory; and indicated that, whilst Narvaez’ issuing of a travel pass without authorisation and Assange’s announcement of the travel pass were ‘mistakes’ (and Narvaez would be sanctioned for it), he understood where they were coming from. He reiterated that Assange continues to enjoy Ecuador’s full support.

  • Arbed

While I’m here, this is O/T but I’m sure it will be of interest to some contributors here. New evidence in the Assange Swedish case has emerged – the forensic lab report is finally available in English, with some pretty explosive findings. The English translation is reproduced on page 8 of the Why I’m Convinced Anna Ardin is a Liar thread, with discussion following (from 1 July onwards):

  • Arbed

Erm, not “reproduced on page 8” but linked there. Well worth clicking through on all the links supplied, to get a full understanding of the implications of the forensic findings in the Swedish Affair Assange.

    @ Doug Scogie.

    “Democracy, wanxxxxxxs.“

“Come in old boy sit down and tell us all about it“

I will ask you- how can we raise standards in a egalitarian society?

  • Dendo

Basically, whenever a muslim party comes to power, not as a result of free elections,(Algiers and now Egypt as example) there will be enough people to sweep them away from power under the pretense of fight against economic problems, political islam, or islamists, etc.
The rule that is effective in western countries can not be applied in muslim countries because there is a muslim party in power, i.e. muslims are ruling. Period.

  • glenn_uk

Abe: Note that when quoting Kissinger, you are referring to the words of a liar and a mass murdering war criminal. Hardly the best person from whom to draw your principles.

  • Macky

    “Is that the real Habbabkuk?”

Not been the same lately; wonder if it’s anything to do with the recent testing of the much self-acclaimed “intellectual fire-power”, which revealed itself as rather a very damp squib in reality !

  • Ben Franklin -Machine Gun Preacher (unleaded version)

Glenn; Howdy. Have you spoken with Clark? Several (including me) have outstanding emails.

Just wonderin where is he and where you been?

  • nevermind

Thanks for the update on new evidence, Arbed, so he condom story does not stack up to much and the similarities of both stories are now beginning to emerge, actions that could have been planned some time before and were executed rather unprofessionally. AA should have had more experience after her Cuban era.

music, interlude, picture of cyclists going round and round….

Tonight’s the night of the GHG, nearest thing to remind Norfolk people what its like to do the Tour de France. Some very nice real ale pubs within shouting distance of each other, this test attracts cyclists from near and far.

Not myself though, that hill is murder and I once took part in a running race round the same course, they nearly had to put me down….

O/T Craig wrote about Lynne Stewart previously. The b******s will not give her compassionate release.

URGENT UPDATE AND MESSAGE FROM LYNNE STEWART —http://www.iacenter.org/prisoners/stewart070513/

God bless her. She can still be seen smiling in the photo.

  • Suhayl Saadi

Thanks, Mary. Good review. I’ll check out the book.

“On his later trips to Baghdad, Kelly would be confronted outside his hotel by Iraqi mothers thrusting dead babies in his face.” [from the book]

Bloody hell. This is what Madeleine Albright thought was “worth it”. Basically, it was not her dead baby.

  • Suhayl Saadi

“WTF is Suhaayl Saadist when we need a girl?” Craig Lover, sometime earlier in this thread.

Do please explain. Is this a “Did we meet in California, no we met in St Louis” kind of thing? A speaking microwave, or a listening rock? Or is it just the ghost of Bobby Darin?

    Alaa al Aswany:

‘First it was Mubarak who trampled the rights of the people, then the military and now it’s the Muslim Brotherhood. I’m not really against the Brotherhood per se, rather against a state that wraps up fascism in religion.

The Egyptian revolution will reject the Muslim Brotherhood, same as it didn’t tolerate the military and Hosni Mubarak before them. Our future lies ahead, and democracy is the only way forward. I think the Muslim Brotherhood is ultimately a fascist movement. Egyptian democracy has been trampled.’
