The Big Gay Wedding 389

As long term readers know, I love the Eurovision Song Contest. It is just so much fun and so resoundingly daft. Graham Norton’s comment last night, “it’s like the gay wedding I’ll never have”, summed it up rather well. We also learnt that Danish humour is impenetrable. Having once spent a week there living with Danish friends, I guess a country that seems to live on raw fish and raw eggs will forever shimmer beyond my comprehension. Like Hamlet’s mind – impossible to understand completely, but marvelous.

I was however saddened by the audience booing of the two young Russian girls. That was really nasty and unfair. They were scarcely more than children, for goodness sake. Putin is not their fault. That booing was an exhibition of racism; nothing else you can call it. If people wanted to make a point, they could have screamed for the Ukrainian girl – they didn’t have to boo the young Russians.

People always complain about political voting, but I think that’s half the fun. I always enjoy the voting far more than most of the singing. Last night, I think, was political voting in a wonderful way. It was a joyful expression of approval for the idea that human beings can and should be what they want to be. It wasn’t the first time either – I remember a similarly gender challenging singer from Israel winning some years ago. What was even better this year, was that another stereotype was also challenged, in that Conchita swept up much support from Eastern as well as Western Europe. Let it be said that she had a damn good song too.

We voted for the Polish girls. I thought the honesty of their approach was brilliant, and reminded me of so many happy days in Warsaw in my youth. Good to see women doing the washing too.*

All in all, great fun and a life-affirming evening. Now to clear away all the mess – why did I stick all those empty Prosecco bottles on the front garden railings?

*Private joke for my friends at Russia Today media (formerly trading as Indymedia).

Roll forward to 2019 and a hyperthetical win by a female to male gender disphoric person.
Would a woman, feeling the man inside and with beart, equally good at singing and standing on one spot without moving, enthrall the audience, medusa like?

Now I’ve been accused of many things in my time, but I think that’s a first! Now, how did a sorry individual like you come to be on this website in the first place?

  • David Briggs

You could say that about a lot of folk that frequent your Blog, but we always come back.

    We all lurv you Craig.

I always thought the best bits of the Eurovision Song Contest, as relayed by the BBC, were the commentary by (was it?) Terry Wogan. Is the new British commentator, whoever he/she is, the same/any good?

    Habbabkuk

    It is Graham Norton

Austria creamed it, winning in style with the not-notably-heterosexual bearded drag act Conchita Wurst, who had sung a Bond anthem called, if my notes are correct, Rise Like A Penis.

Btw, Russia awarded Ukraine 7 points and Ukraine awarded Russia 4 points.
Russian telephone voting put Austria at No 3. Overall Russia awarded Austria 5 points. In Ukraine the Russian entry was the third most popular song in televoting (Poland and Armenia at 1 and 2).

Very odd that the audience, most of which could not have pointed to Crimea on a map a few months ago, were so well drilled at booing the Russian contenders whenever they appeared or were mentioned.

I know the Russians take the contest very seriously, but they should withdraw from it on the grounds that the it has been turned from a singing contest into an EU propaganda platform and degenerate freak show.

And when did Turkey, Azerbaijan and least of all, Israel, become part of Europe?

  • Anon

Thanks for that, Squonk. You’re the Bill Frindall of Eurovision stats. Well done to Russell Brand for the winning song anyway.

Anybody who boos the Russians for being Russian, needs to step back and look into the mirror.

What other people in modern times has thrown off the evil yoke of socialism by their own courage? First by defeating the Nazis, and then by defeating Communism, despite the huge financial support from its international Jewish sponsors; Russians have won through against the odds.

Meanwhile the west becomes ever more morally corrupt, not knowing a hawk from a heron; arse from quim; or piety from virtue.

I’m told that Conchita is slang for a pussy and Wurst is, of course, a sausage.

Which brings me to Craig’s “It was a joyful expression of approval for the idea that human beings can and should be what they want to be.”.

Yes, a bearded lady calling itself a cockgina could be considered “gender-challenging” I suppose. Defininitely a PhD in there somewhere.

“Meanwhile the west becomes ever more morally corrupt”

Ah, but s/he was challenging genderisms, you see. And that “Peace and Unity” bit at the end had the bien-pensant liberal elite gushing with delight as they sipped their Proseccos.

A particularly well-chosen metaphor in the context of a song sung by a Wurst, if I may say so.

    Nevermind pls confirm.

Something a bit strange about that comment, Jimmy Giro.

Are you saying that Communism (and perhaps the Nazis) received huge financial support from international Jewish sponsors, or did you mean that it was the Russian people that received this huge financial support (in which case they wouldn’t have thrown off the yoke of socialism “by their own courage)?

If the former, then we are in the realm of pure nonsense; if the latter, then you are contradicting yourself.

Please take lessons in greater drafting clarity. There are any number of commenters on here who would, I’m sure, be delighted to help…

Thank you, AlcAnon. Is his approach to presenting the contest similar to Terry Wogan’s?

s/be Anyway, there is no need to bring everything down to the lowest common denominator.

What other people in modern times have thrown off the evil yoke of socialism by their own courage? First by defeating the Nazis; and then by defeating Communism. Despite the huge financial support for socialist systems, by international Jewish sponsors, Russians have won through, against the odds.

    Any better?

  • Habbabkuk (La vita è bella) !

    Jimmy Giro

That’s much better, thanks for making the effort.

Could you now flesh out, with examples, your thought that international Jewish sponsors provided huge financial support for socialist systems?

  • mark golding

I agree Jimmy booing, hooting or cat-calling Russians is not using our intelligence. Perhaps we need to look closely at ourselves. What do we believe?

We cheer whistle-blowers here. They risk everything to expose distortion of the truth, subterfuge and corruption.

Annie Machon gives us the insight we need to awaken intractable, mulish and pig headed minds; to realise we are all dispensable, trivial cogs in a merciless, apathetic and venomous machine.

Bankers funded communists to topple the Tsar, because he wanted to remain outside their system of debt slavery.

    Job done.

They then funded the Nazis to topple the communists, hoping to then bring Russia within their financial control.

    Failed.

Not used to losing, they then snatched a victory of sorts by portraying this emboldened USSR as a threat to the US and Europe, enabling them to build up their military power within the West.

    Soviet Union collapses.

The bankers think they’ve won. Their people are sent in to rape and plunder Russian resources. They talk nobly of globalisation, the global village and how happy we’ll all be in this new world. For good measure they undermine Russia’s European friend, Serbia.

Then, amidst massive destruction of Russian lives and economy, Putin comes to power, throws the bankers friends out and creates a sovereign currency.

Things improve for Russia, and the bankers realise they’ll now have to do it bit by bit.

First thing they do is neutralize those smaller energy rich countries, for fear they may consider selling energy in a currency other than USD. They realise that this would collapse the dollar, since the only thing holding the heavily indebted US together is the maintenance of the dollar as reserve currency.

Iraq, Libya and Sudan are dispatched to chaos and slaughter. Iran is next for the same treatment, but first they must destroy Syria.

    They fail in Syria.

Now they realise they’ll have to fatally undermine Russia itself.

Luckily, all the while they’ve been hoovering up former Warsaw Pact countries on Russia’s borders, failing in Georgia and with Ukraine still ongoing. By these means they hope to weaken Russia enough that she’ll submit or at worst she’ll quickly be defeated in any nuclear engagement.

    That’s where we are.

This is a fight where the result will be one of two outcomes. Either the West wins overall control and the dollar remains dominant, or it collapses to nothing.

    These are Banker wars.

In order to better fight this war, Western countries removed banking controls in the 1990s. All the financial chaos and misery you see about you is a product of that, and is enabling bankers to hoover up Western resources.

They’ve been thinking ahead. You see, even if the dollar loses this battle the bankers will have amassed enough material wealth to sustain themselves as power moves east. Even when they lose, they win.

If the West loses, many western countries will be placed under fascist rule as this is the tried and tested way of preserving elite wealth during what will be a time of economic stasis and mass poverty in the US and much of the West.

One thing’s for sure. Ordinary people will suffer. They always do in bankers wars.
