I thought that… even mentioned it in a tweet yesterday (to my 3 followers). What’s the big deal about having a dodgy ‘phone-hacker as an aid, when we had a war criminal as PM in the previous administration? Besides, Cameron has “form” on this – everyone seems to have forgotten that “old lag” Hulme, who was actually a minister, and not merely hanging around at Downing Street.

  • Mary

Talk of a retrial. A lawyers’ paradise as I said earlier. Note the effect of Agent Cameron’s intervention.

Hacking Trial Jury Discharged On Final Charges

    12:31pm UK, Wednesday 25 June 2014

Jurors in the phone hacking trial have been formally discharged after failing to reach a verdict on four final charges.

Andy Coulson, the former Number 10 spin doctor, and the ex-News Of The World royal editor Clive Goodman had been accused of conspiring to commit misconduct in public office by paying police officers for two royal phone directories.

But after sitting through eight months of evidence at the Old Bailey, the jury could not reach even a majority verdict and were discharged.

Sky’s Home Affairs Correspondent Mark White, outside the court, said: “There was a move by the legal counsel for Andy Coulson and Clive Goodman to have those remaining counts thrown out … because they felt the jury would not be able to reach fair conclusions.

“The comments made by the Prime Minister were very prejudicial, suggesting Andy Coulson had been dishonest.

“However, in essence, that argument is a moot point for the moment because the jury has not been able to reach verdicts.”

A decision on whether to hold a retrial will be made next week.

  • Phil

A retrial? Thank god for that. When they were charged I made a not insubstantial bet with a friend that they would both be found innocent. I thought I had lost!

I wish someone would take a serious dig into Windrush/Firerush. Getting a Western ex-leader done for war crimes, even if he’d taken selfies while personally spraying the Iraqis with Sarin*, is, history tells us, a vain hope. But massive fraud, false accounting and prusuing business interests under cover of a registered charity, might prove more productive, if less satisfying generally.

*as if. Tony in an active warzone, lol.

Edward Samuel Miliband certainly loves Israel.

Not doing so well in the polls here.

Miliband Fights Back After Poor Poll Showing Thu, Jun 19, 2014
Ed Miliband’s leadership is under increasing pressure after a slew of negative polls and comments from former New Labour stalwarts. The Labour leader’s popularity is now at its lowest, behind even Nick Clegg, who was previously seen as the barometer of unpopularity. A YouGov poll on Thursday found that 60% of voters think Mr Miliband is not up to the job of prime minister – of those 43% were Labour voters. The survey for Prospect magazine also found more people thought Mr Miliband’s brother, David, would make a better premier. More »

    Mary

Your ugly inclusion of Miliband’s middle name reminds us he is Jewish and insinuates as a Jew he must support Israel.

Ed Miliband is also a friend of the Palestinians.

A politician playing all sides. Now isn’t that a shocker.

  • Jemand

Tony Blair’s punishment, if you can call it that, will be the outpouring of desperate grief and sadness at his funeral in the same way we witnessed with Midge Thatcher’s send off.

I recommend everyone remind Ol’Tone that that is how he will be remembered — with loving scorn.

Glad to see that more people are beginning to rumble Mary.

Under the mask of merely being “anti-Zionist” or “anti-Israeli”, Mary is a Jew-hater.

Moreover she has also stated that Israel has no right to exist.

  • Clark

Common. He forgot to specify, a common criminal. This is the same Coulson as associated with a dishonest fairly senior police officer, and a murder trial that kept going to court but could never be made to stick, yes? And wasn’t there something about drugs, and a journalist being bugged? Damn my failing memory…

But that was all before Coulson was invited into Number 10. For Blair, taking Number Ten was a necessary step in the execution of his biggest crime so far, though he remains at large.

  • Mary

I was waiting for that nastiness Phil having given the cue to the troll who loves to say ‘Jew hater’ which I am not in any way, shape or form. Just anti the daemons occupying of Palestine. How many more times Habbakuk?

PS I had an Uncle Samuel and our family is not Jewish although a lot of my friends are. They are as one for the Palestinians. 🙂

Off to a funeral which seems rather inappropriate on a fine sunny Summer day.

  • Ben-LA PACQUTE LO ES TODO

“The Jazeera sentences, which prosecutor Hisham Barakat described as a “deterrent verdict,” prompted widespread condemnation from human rights groups and Western governments. ”

“Deterent verdict” sounds like ‘prior restraint’ which means the authorities have the power to prevent publication. A bad precedent.

Re Milliband and support for Israel – no-one seems to have noticed the obvious contradiction – a bacon sandwich (though maybe that was why he was having trouble eating it):

Prior restraint* applies to any repetition, it seems.

Very wise, John. If the punters saw their representatives stuffing their faces and swilling, it might be bad for democracy. Kosher or not.

And see in support of Phil’s thesis:

A spokesperson for Blair responded that all those signed onto the letter are from the “hard right” and hard left” who are “viscerally opposed” to him… (Blair press release in response to the latest letter calling for his sacking)

Blair Promotions Inc was in full swing at Mandela’s funeral:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/tony-blair/10518182/Tony-Blair-introduces-prospective-client-Victor-Ponta-to-Barack-Obama.html

In the photographs Mr Blair can be seen apparently crouching down behind Mr Obama, who is seated, prompting the US president to turn around to greet him and to shake Mr Ponta’s hand. (unworthy thought, was his tongue extended?)…

A spokesman for Mr Blair said: “As you may have noticed, there was a large number of leaders present at the funeral mingling together.

“Tony Blair has no contract with the Romanian government and if his team ever did work there it would be at no cost to the Romanian government and at no personal profit to Tony Blair.”

That was then. He’s well in now:

The original FT article is behind a paywall, but the gist is that Walking Eagle Promotions ™ will be selling governance ‘n, you know, stuff, to Romania and Kazakhstan from new premises planned in Abu Dhabi. Google Translate, if you doubt me.

And remember poor Sean Hoare, the NOW reporter who might well have found politicians who were willing to supply royal phone books for money, conveniently died when he was most in focus for criminal scrutiny.

Arguing against Israel’s right to exist is a reasonable point of view. The ethnic cleansing, genocide, apartheid and the rest of it speak for themselves. Its not who they are its what they do, and the state of Israel is a massive blot on the conscience of the civilised world.

Wow! At least you don’t try and obfuscate.

So what would you propose in order to put your belief into practice – how would you propose to “un-exist” Israel?

And another quick question: presumably you would also think that Germany had no right to exist after 1945 and Russia after 1990?

  • Habbabkuk (La vita è bella) !

    Mary

And won’t you please drop that old shtick :

“PS I had an Uncle Samuel and our family is not Jewish although a lot of my friends are.”

Sounds too much like the “some of my best friends are black” of a couple of decades ago, Mary.

I’ve always thought of you as a pretty honest and sane sort of bloke (you’ll never make it to Eminence, I’m afraid)so I particularly liked the “3 followers” in your post at the head of the page.

Your modesty compares favorably with that of the prat who was on a recent thread bragging about his “5000 followers”. (the bloke who wanted to know how he could twit or twitter or tweet Craig’s lead-in posts).

I am told that no reply to a letter from the Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights sent over a month ago has been forthcoming from Hague or the FCO as of today’s date.

Trolls Stop wrecking Craig’s blog thread with your garbage. Your intention is obvious.

  • Jemand

Mary, stop the ticker-tape hate parade against Jews. Topical criticism of Israel is fair enough but not your psychotic drilling into the Semitic origins or connections of various nobodies.

If you were really an agent of Truth and Justice as you so often proclaim yourself to be, you’d be “reporting” on crimes committed in the name of advancing religious causes.

    Rats? Sinking ships?

    24 June 2014

A second ministerial aide has quit the Government in the space of just two days.

Conservative MP Richard Graham has said he is standing down as parliamentary private secretary (PPS) to the Foreign Office Minister Hugo Swire.

Writing on his Twitter feed, he said that he wanted to focus more on regeneration issues in his Gloucester constituency and his other roles such as David Cameron’s trade envoy.

His announcement came after David Burrowes said yesterday he was quitting as PPS to Environment Secretary Owen Paterson “in the best interests of my constituents and our party”.
