Mosul – Worse than Srebrenica 169

Here in South Eastern Turkey I have been watching a great deal of news coverage, on a satellite system showing news channels of many regional countries, of the major massacre of Sunni Muslims in Mosul which is taking place as you read this. The video of a couple of people being thrown off a cliff is something I wish I had not watched; it is on the Independent website here. Human Rights Watch have confirmed the location in Mosul. This video had become so viral on social media that some Western mainstream media felt obliged to note its existence. But I have been watching, on other national channels, TV images still more disturbing. These include images of mass shootings. Most chilling of all have been much less graphically violent pictures, of shambling columns of men –and boys – being marched off. It is fairly plain that these are residents of Mosul rather than ISIL fighters. The images reminded me forcefully of Srebrenica.

Whether the number killed in cold blood will exceed the horror of Srebrenica only time will tell. It is currently too hard, without being there, to discern the truth from the propaganda on all sides. But there is one way in which, morally, this is a much worse outrage for any British citizen than Srebrenica. The Shia troops carrying out the massacre only were able to conquer the Sunni city of Mosul because the British and Americans had not only armed and financed them, but British and American forces were actively fighting alongside them. It is not possible to shrug off the moral responsibility for the massacre we have actively launched.

In Srebrenica the cowardice and bureaucratic blinkers of a group of Dutch officers were shameful. But Mosul is the equivalent of the Dutch having fought alongside the attackers then pretended not to notice anything at all was happening.

There is also another great difference in western culpability. In the Balkan Wars the Serbs were the “enemy” of the West – NATO even bombed them – so justified mainstream media outrage was screamed at us. In Mosul, those perpetrating the massacre are on “our side”, so you will never hear much of it. The deliberate conflation of Sunni tribesmen defending their homes against their traditional enemy, with the separate forces of ISIS, aids this lie.

The greater irony is of course that in Syria the UK and US forces are operating on the opposite side of the same conflict. There the Sunni jihadists, with precisely the same ideology and the same financing as ISIL and before Mosul was cut off sometimes the same physical people, are our allies. There is no distinction of the remotest importance in beliefs, funding or operational methods between the jihadists who were controlling Mosul and those who were controlling Eastern Aleppo.

Yet, despite the glaringly obvious intellectual paucity of the position, the devastation of Mosul by western backed forces was described as a “liberation”, whereas the precisely analogous devastation of Eastern Aleppo by Syrian government forces was described as a… “devastation”.

Still more astonishing, the Western media in co-ordinated fashion played up fears of a massacre in Eastern Aleppo, whereas in fact no massacre took place. In the event, so concerned were the Syrian government (of which I do not generally approve) to refute allegations of intended massacre, they allowed many of the actual jihadists to bus out to Raqqa, where they are fighting again today.

Whereas whilst an actual massacre does take place in Mosul, the Western mainstream media has fallen almost completely silent.

The other interesting silence is from Saudi Arabia, which poses as the defender of Sunni Islam throughout the world, but actually has no interest at all in it, except as a tool for promoting the much more worldly interests of the Saudi elite. It was Saudi fury at the US effectively handing Iraq to Iranian control through its majority Shia population, that caused the USA to change policy to back the Saudi inspired and financed Sunni proxy war throughout the rest of the Arabian peninsula, and especially in Syria. The USA turned a blind eye to the Saudi military invasion of Bahrain to crush its majority Shia uprising, and actively facilitated the devastating aerial attacks on Shia civilian populations in the Yemen. The Saudis have found their grievance over Iraq to be useful leverage on the US.

For the Saudi elite, the money they pumped into ISIS in Iraq was a trifle; Mosul ISIL were pawns to be sacrificed and the Sunni civilian population of Mosul is no more important to them. By the combination of funding the spread of Wahhabi ideology and providing unlimited arms and organisational financing, the Saudis can pop up another Al Qaida, Al Nusra or ISIL more or less anywhere, any time it seems useful. Meantime they are focused on cementing their burgeoning axis of Saudi Arabia/Israel/USA to continue the violent promotion of Saudi regional ambition.

Not really astonishing, but rather par for the course. And where were they when Aleppo was liberated, to interview the survivors, and get their stories? That is the true indication of their ‘interest’ in the Syrian people – they could not stomach having to report the joy of those liberated, and to hear of the atrocities meted out to them and to their dead colleagues and family members.
Presstitutes is far too lenient a word for them – they are aiding and abetting Crimes Against Peace, and other War Crimes.

”But Sir, It’s an American Ship.’ ‘Never Mind, Hit Her!’ When Israel Attacked USS Liberty’: http://www.haaretz.com/us-news/1.800584

Good article on the USS Liberty from an Israeli paper, but our and the US MSM Presstitutes ignored it.
I was led to it by this one: ‘Israeli paper investigates 50-year-ago attack on ‘USS Liberty,’ while US papers leave it in the letters column’:

They didn’t get all the stuff out, but it was pretty good.

The bussing out was of course to Idlib, not Raqqa, where they are continuing to fight for al-Qa’ida derivatives (al-Nusra, etc.), not Da’ish. Though some might conceivably later have transferred (Pedant’s Corner).

The advantage of that, of course, was that since then, in Idlib they have taken to prolonged internecine fighting, and have taken to killing themselves, rather than others.

Saudi Arabia is planning to execute 14 men and boys.

Reprieve sent an e-mail round this morning requesting signatures on this.
    https://act.reprieve.org.uk/page/s/SaudiProtestExecutions?
‘My team has received news that 14 people sentenced to death for protest-related offences in Saudi Arabia have been prepared for execution and may be beheaded within hours. The group includes a disabled man and two sentenced to death as juveniles.

We’re working to save their lives, and we hope you can help. When we’ve worked together before to raise the alarm about the execution of juveniles in Saudi Arabia, we’ve helped to save lives. Can you help again and sign our petition?

Among those facing execution are Munir Al-Adam and Mujtaba’a al-Sweikat. Munir was born with impaired sight and hearing. In their efforts to extract a “confession” from him, Munir’s captors tortured him so badly that he was rendered completely deaf in one ear. Mujtaba’a was just 17 when arrested at the airport on his way to take up a place at Western Michigan University in the US. He was burnt with cigarettes and tortured so savagely that his shoulder was broken. He was denied medical care and sentenced to die on the basis of a forced “confession”.

The world must tell the new Saudi Prince that these executions are unacceptable and cannot be allowed to go ahead.Fears have mounted following Saudi Arabia’s execution of 14 people last week. Among them were 4 men executed for protest-related offences – the first such executions since January 2016, when 47 people were executed en masse.

If these upcoming executions go ahead, it will be in grave violation of international law. Those set to be beheaded were sentenced to death for standing up for issues we all care about – now it’s our turn to stand up for them.’

An urgent question has just been asked in the HoC by Tom Brake, LD Carshalton. ”What steps are being taken to intervene in the anticipated executions of 14 men and boys in Saudi Arabia.’

Handwringing and evasive responses came from the earnest stooge, Alistair Burt, FCO Middle East Minister. Apparently we have shared values with Saudi Arabia!

Och, Craig. These are ‘good’ massacres, ones that help us. We have no friends – only interests. You’d never make it in the ‘diplomatic’ corps …

According to stataistics collected by AirWars, the US coalition killed between 7800 and 3000 civilians during March and April 2017 (in Iraq and Syria). One particular strike was against a building where two ISIS snipers were hidden. The bombs that destroyed the building not only killed the two snipers but also 43 civilians sheltering or held prsioner in the basement.

AirWars is run by UK professional journalists, so is not likely to favor either Assad or overplay the death toll of the US coalition.

I hope the Iraqis involved are brought to trial, and receive the same harsh punishment handed out to the UK/US/Australian Special Forces who murdered civilians en masse in Afghanistan.

    • Anonymous

Doh – it should be ‘between 2700 and 3000’. Any chance of a preview option on the user interface?

      • Anonymous

Strangely most of them seem to be males of fighting age, frequently accompanied by the White Helmets, as illustrated by AirWars themselves. I suppose ISIS technically are civilians, as they are not members of a national state military, so they AirWars are technically honest..

There is, of course, a difference. The Syrian Government Forces, the Russians or other allies of Syria try their utmost to avoid civilian casualties – but the Yanks and their cronies (including us) couldn’t give a damn who they hit, and rarely do serious damage to ISIS/IS/Daesh (who, after all, are their and our ‘proxies’). The Yanks and their cronies are illegally bombing and occupying parts of Syria, and frequently ‘accidentally’ target SAA and their allies.
Two British planes were shot down by Iraqi forces a year or two ago whilst airdropping arms to IS in Iraq, as was at least one US helicopter (what – you didn’t read it in the Guardian or Mail? Quelle surprise!!).
Oh, sorry, you probably didn’t read it in the Dandy or Beano either.
Wriggle, wriggle, wriggle, as you might say.
Amazing, isn’t it, that prime, sitting-duck tanker convoys of stolen oil on their way to Turkey were never bombed, till the Russians entered the conflict and showed the Yanks how it was done.
The West’s motives and military intentions are extremely evident to the Syrians, Russians, Iraqis and Iranians, but somehow opaque to our MSM, politicians and most of the public

A video recovered from a dead ISIS terrorist, most of whom were foreign mercenaries, not Iraqi ‘rebels’. It shows an ISIS sniper team in action, one firing the weapon and the other acting as target spotter. Their targets are civilians trying to flee the carnage. The ISIS teams laugh as they hit one person then wait for the others to regroup to recover the victim, hjoping to hit a second.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMuJC9Tq3LY

The Iraqi security forces also discovered 25 female ISIS terrorists hiding in a tunnel in west Mosul. Their nationalities were: 3 Turks, 5 Germans, 3 Russian Federation, 2 Canadians, 1 Chechen, with the others being Libyan and Syrian.

    https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/25-female-isil-terrorists-captured-mosul/

Female terrorists have approached Iraqi forces whilst wearing suicide belts. The Iraqis had taken to banning the burqa and requesting fleeing civilians demonstrate they were not carrying explosives. Men would strip to shorts.

While that might be true at the moment it seems highly likely that by the end of the year Saudi confidence in US treasuries will be almost non-existent as the petro-dollar is rapidly waning as a reliable peg. What that means is that the US (and those who fund its economy) will look at Saudi Arabia in a new light, probably seeing it as no more than a country with oil. This is how it once saw Iraq. Yes, the US and UK have sold the Sheikhdom weapons, (yesterday’s weapons with built-in software to disable them or worse if pointed at western countries). Yesterday’s friend is tomorrow’s foe. There is no love lost in international business. There are plenty of photos of John Kerry and his wife dining with Bashar al Assad and his wife Asma, before they became our enemy. The despicable Saudi regime who, as Sharp Ears has shown (July 17, 2017 at 16:31) has no more mercy than our own governments when their interests are perceived to be threatened,

Well, ‘Shock horror!! Perhaps the Saudis ought to investigate ‘King’ Fahd’s behaviour, before he (it) went to meet Old Nick – the following is verbatim (though original doesn’t have the three ‘stars’) from Cathy O’Brien’s ‘Tranceformation of America’, page 138:

‘…Fahd was sitting in a chair by a coffee table. As I knelt on the carpel in
front off him, his piercing black eyes seemed to stab into my brain like swords.
I could not turn away. He stroked my neck with his index finger, activating
oral sex programming. “I have heard about you and am in-tent on having you.”
Somehow he found the slit in his robes and parted it as he continued, “Come
into my tent- A feast has been spread for you.” He spread his legs and exposed
his p***s — one of the nastiest I had ever seen — like a black nightcrawler worm
that smelled and tasted strongly of spice. Habib watched as I carried out my
orders, much to the pleasure of Fahd,…’

This was the ‘King’ of the same country we, the UK, are arming to the teeth so they can commit genocide in Yemen and bankroll the head-choppers:
Read the book; it includes Bush Sr., Cheney, Senator Byrd, Reagan, Gerald Ford, Michael Aquino and many other ultra-evil Luciferian slimeballs – but you need a very strong stomach.

The French Government don’t want to see French ISIS fighters or their female companions returning to their birth country and have, therefore, authorised secretly Iraki or Syrian force, Kurdish and others fighters to shoot and kill these French Moslem extremists, according to Le Monde. Mosul was populated during Hussein by Turkmens migrants in order to restrict the number of Kurds. Iraki Kurds have always considered Mossul to be part of the Southern Kurdistan and I can predict a lot of tension between an Iraki Shia government and Sunni Iraki Arabs and Kurds in the near future.

The West’s bombardment of Serbia (after stirring up the different ethnic entities in Yugoslavia) had nothing to do with protecting Muslims or anyone else, though it was sold as that.
It was that the Serbs were too close to Russia. They wanted to ‘re-Balkanize’ the Balkans, to bring Croatia and Slovenia into the German orbit, seperate Albania as a safe conduit for importing drugs to the US and Europe. Just like they stirred up Ukraine, bringing on an armed insurrection and a Fascist Regime.
But that the Serbs committed terrible atrocities is not in doubt, but there is every reason to believe the West and it;s MSM overstated atrocities in order to demonise the Serb ‘enemy’, as they always do.

    • SA

There were atrocities on both sides but the Serbian ones were overstated, mainly because the Sebs were also associated with the rump of the Yugoslav state. There is a very good book about this by Misha Glenny.

Mass Media Siege: Comparing Coverage Of Mosul and Aleppo
    July 17th, 2017

When Russian and Syrian forces were bombarding ‘rebel’-held East Aleppo last year, newspapers and television screens were full of anguished reporting about the plight of civilians killed, injured, trapped, traumatised or desperately fleeing. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, both Official Enemies, were denounced and demonised, in accordance with the usual propaganda script. One piece in the Evening Standard described Assad as a ‘monster’ and a Boris Johnson column in the Telegraph referred to both Putin and Assad as ‘the Devil’.

Was the Srebrenica incident as presented in the west a hoax? Information from a Portuguese military observer, and deputy head of the U.N. Protection Force (UNPROFOR) between 1994 and 1996.

The Serbs had about 3000 troops and at most 6 vehicles. The Bosnians had 4000 to 6000 troops and knowledge of the local terrain which was very hilly and rugged, discounting the advantage the Serbian mobility. On all conventional military assessments, the Serbs would need a 3:1 ratio to win, ie 12,000 to 18,000 troops.

«One may agree or disagree with my political analysis, but one really ought to read the account of how Srebrenica fell, who are the victims whose bodies have been found so far, and why the author believes that the Serbs wanted to conquer Srebrenica and make the Bosnian Muslims flee, rather than having any intentions of butchering them. The comparison Srebrenica vs. Krajina, as well as the related media reaction by the ‘free press’ in the West, is also rather instructive.»

    http://off-guardian.org/2017/07/19/war-in-the-balkans-the-memoirs-of-a-portugese-peacekeeper-ii/

That Srebrenica was considered to be a genocide was essential to justify the ‘humantiarian intervention’. The ‘humantiarian intervention’ gave plausible cover to wars of agression with similar stories reappearing later as ‘Hussein gassed his own people’, ‘Gaddaffi fed his troops viagra so they could rape masses of women’, ‘Yanukovich shot his own people’, ‘Assad shot and gasssed his own people’, etc, etc.

There was also the infamous ITN report supposedly showing starved Bosnian(?) civilians held in wire cages by the Evil Serbs (TM). Much later, it turned out that the film crew was in a wire-fenced compound and the ‘starved’ guy was just an unusually skinny guy passing by. But the damage was done, The gullible were sucked in by the propagandists, the war mongers had their cover, the concept of war of aggression branded as ‘humanitarian intervention’ was established and the west was on its was to destroying Serbia. By one of those amazing coincidences, Serbia just happened to be a Russian ally, as is Syria, Ukraine under Yanukovich and to a lesser extent Libya under Gadaffi.

Certainly one thing the west doesn’t talk about in the Serbia conflict was the use of western trained extremist Muslim mercenaries who delighted in decaptitating captured Serbs and sahowing the heads to camera.

Rings a bell? Those jolly nice chaps ISIS and the ‘carefully vetted moderate rebels’ did the very same in Iraq and Syria. The most notorisous case in Syria was the CVMR decapitation of the clinically ill 12 year old boy who begged on camera to be shot rather than decapitated. In the Iraqi case that prompted the author’s outrage, just a few days before, ISIS had a rare major success in Iraq, overpowering and overrunning an Iraqi outpost. They captured about 100 Iraqi prisoners and decapitated them all. Whilst not condoning the actions of the filmed Iraqis, I can understand it. Their actions were a crime, but subordinate to the greater crime committed by western governments, military and intelligence serves of unleashing ISIS and the CVMR on the people of Iraq and Syria.

As a parallel, Palestinians in Gaza sometimes fire rockets towards Israel. andeven more rarely wound or kill Israeli civilians. That is a crime, but it is also subordinate to the greater crime, again aided by the west, of Israel’s racist, murderous, theiving occupation of Palestine.

One a positive note, following a court case raised by Israel Firsters in Scotland accusing anti-Zionist protestors of racism, the Scottish court ruled that criticism of Zionism is not racism.

      ‘carefully vetted moderate rebels’.

I wonder to what extent Cameron et al. believe their own PR. I strongly suspect they believe it a quite pathological degree, showing a level of self-persuasion that is quite demented. There are, of course, no moderate rebels in Syria. They have been pre-selected for the qualities deemed most admirable to their masters. That is to say, willingness to chop heads, desire to rape women, and lust to bayonet babies. It’s strange how this sounds like WW1 propaganda, where we would accuse evil hun of such crimes. In fact, of course, it’s ‘the west’ that is sponsoring, and thus finally responsible, for these horrors. I put the west in quote marks, because clearly our democracy, and our military, has been usurped in some sort of silent coup. Cameron is way too fucking stupid to see that the puppet masters are all mental deviants – that’s posh education for you – but the rest of us are beginning to see it, very clearly indeed. Some of them really are Luciferians, which is all sort of whack.

My understanding was that the Serbs had all the high ground surrounding Srebrenica, and could and did snipe and pour fire down upon the town ( https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Srebrenica+terrain+map&oq=Srebrenica+terrain+map&aqs=chrome..69i57.13687j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 )
Thus they didn’t need numerical superiority. They also had aircraft, tanks, and artillery, whilst the Bosnians didn’t (or I assume they didn’t).
There was definitely an ulterior motive for the West’s wanting to overthrow Milosevic, because Serbia was too close to the Russians.
The West certainly would not have intervened to help any one; they always have an ulterior motive (look at whose side they are on in Yemen, or Israel/Palestine).

        • Dave

It was stated the bombing of Serbia was to force their withdrawal from Kosovo, but this was the cover story, because initially the Serbs were given an ultimatum to allow NATO occupation of Serbia or face being bombed over a refusal to leave Kosovo. The Serbs refused, but then agreed when NATO dropped its demand to occupy Serbia. I.e. NATO gave Serbia an ultimatum they knew they would refuse to provide the pretext for bombing them over Kosovo.

It’s you who has been suckered by the propagandists. This version originated with Living Marxism (LM) magazine who subsequently lost a £375,000 libel case to ITN because they could field a single witness to support their version of events. Meanwhile the ICTY found several individuals guilty of crimes against humanity perpetrated at the camp. Around 6,000 Bosniaks and Croats were held in appalling conditions for about five months in the spring and summer of 1992, including 37 women. Hundreds died of starvation, punishment beatings and ill-treatment.

‘Roland Dumas: The British prepared for war in Syria 2 years before the eruption of the crisis’:

Is this not worth taking into account? There is more, of course, like Wesley Clark’s account and later Michael Flynn’s report.

Pardon. Should read: ‘..But why does Craig NOT respond and acknowledge this even more damning indictment of UK complicity in the whole ‘Regime Change’ project, planned two years before the so-called ‘Arab Spring’?…’

Thanks for that. I knew of much of the content but it has more weight considering the source.

‘Mosul’s Bloodbath: ‘We Killed Everyone – IS, Men, Women, Children’: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/47529.htm
‘The Iraqi soldier looks out from his tiny three-walled room across a wasteland of rubble that crumbles steeply down to the banks of the Tigris River and contemplates the last days of the savage fight against the Islamic State (IS) group.
“We killed them all,” he says quietly. “Daesh, men, women and children. We killed everyone.”
What remains of this part of Mosul’s Old City, where IS militants made their last stand, and what lies beneath betrays the horrific final days of the battle.
Hundreds of corpses lie half-buried in the broken masonry and rubble that was once a bustling, historic quarter. The stench of decaying flesh, which comes fast in the 50C summer heat, overwhelms the senses………’
And who is ultimately responsible for all this carnage in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan and so forth?
The sociopaths and psychopaths from Washington DC, London, Paris, other NATO Warmongers, Tel Aviv, and their handmaidens in Ankara, Riad, Amman, and the Gulf Emirates, and of course the MSM that toady to their every whim, blatantly pushing out false, often completely fabricated, propaganda fueling the blood and oil lust.
The world turned a blind eye when the Yanks destabilised Sandinista Nicaragua with the murderous ‘Contra’ mercenaries; now they use well-paid and armed ‘head-chopping’ ‘Jihadis’.
Assist anyone classified as a ‘terrorist’ in the West, and you’re shot or banged up before you can say ‘Allahu Akbar’; a sovereign country can be invaded, occupied and ravaged just for not handing over an alleged ‘suspect’ (Afghanistan).
But pump all sorts of money and arms to universally accepted murderous thugs like Daesh, as Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States (and surreptitiously the US , UK France and others do), or provide their training areas and infiltration routes (like Turkey and Jordan) or provide hospital facilities, R&R areas, arms and artillery and air support (as Israel does) and ‘no probs’.
War Criminal hypocrisy writ large – Orwell’s double-speak writ large.

If nuclear war breaks out, thanks to the USA turning its military industrial complex to the most ignorant politician on the planet, no one will be safe, not even the Israelis.
