Some further information on the background to District Judge Vanessa Baraitser’s appointment by Chief Magistrate Arbuthnot. The legal precept that, justice must not only be done but be seen to be done, has not been followed on either limb. Arbuthnot’s personal links to the security apparatus of the states seeking to extradite Julian Assange, should have seen her precluded from any involvement in the extradition process. Instead she appointed Baraitser who’s open hostility to Assange and his legal team has furthered Arbuthnot’s orders that the last thing Assange will get is a fair hearing.
