I have a similar history, on the wrong end of management by dictat, bullying and unashamed buck-passing. The end result was always that we lost our best people first (who found it relatively easy to move on) and were left with the rest – usually yes-men and no-hopers to a man. ‘Man’ here being gender-unspecific – if they weren’t all males, then not all of the males were men in my estimation anyway.

Coming back recently from NYC to LHR it took me about an hour and a half to get through Immigration in London and I have a British passport. So much for open borders methinks.
Only 6 UKBF officers on duty for what looked like at least three planes of passengers and then I was told to go to the automatic scanner line where I waited with a phalanx of grumbling Europeans for s poxy machine to scan my passport which it had to do four times.
There was a group of Asian gentlemen on the same flight as me and thay had already cleared Immigration and were on thier way out just as I got to the carosel.
At least in the USA they are a lot more professional and the TSA are trained to be polite when they are asking you about your trip to the US. No wonder I am emigrating.
