The mainstream media for the most part has moved on. But there are a few more gleanings to be had, of perhaps the most interesting comes from the Daily Mirror, which labels al-Hilli an extremist on the grounds that he was against the war in Iraq, disapproved of the behaviour of Israel and had doubts over 9/11 – which makes a great deal of the population “extremist”. But the Mirror has the only mainstream mention I can find of the possibility that Mossad carried out the killings. Given Mr al-Hilli’s profession, the fact he is a Shia, the fact he had visited Iran, and the fact that Israel heas been assassinating scientists connected to Iran’s nuclear programme, this has to be a possibility. There are of course other possibilities, but to ignore that one is ludicrous.
Which leads me to the argument of Daily Mail crime reporter, Stephen Wright, that the French police should concentrate on the idea that this was a killing by a random Alpine madman or racist bigot. Perfectly possible, of course, and the anti-Muslim killings in Marseille might be as much a precedent as Mossad killings of scientists. But why the lone madman idea should be the preferred investigation, Mr Wright does not explain. What I did find interesting from a man who has visited many crime scenes are his repeated insinuations that the French authorities are not really trying very hard to find who the killers were, for example:
the crime scene would have been sealed off for a minimum of seven to ten days, to allow detailed forensic searches for DNA, fibres, tyre marks and shoe prints to take place.
Nearby bushes and vegetation would have been searched for any discarded food and cigarette butts left by the killer, not to mention the murder weapon.
But from what I saw at the end of last week, no such searches had taken place and potentially vital evidence could have been missed. House to house inquiries in the local area had yet to be completed and police had not made specific public appeals for information about the crime. No reward had been put up for information about the shootings.
Behind the scenes, what other short cuts have been taken? Have police seized data identifying all mobile phones being used in the vicinity of the murders that day?
The idea that the French authorities – who are quite as capable as any other of solving cases – are not really trying very hard is an interesting one.
Which leads me to this part of a remarkable article from the Daily Telegraph, which if true points us back towards a hit squad and discounts the ides that there was only one gun:
Claims that only one gun was used to kill everybody is likely to be disproved by full ballistics test results which are out in October.
While the 25 spent bullet cartridges found at the scene are all of the same kind, they could in fact have come from a number of weapons of the same make.
This throws up the possibility of a well-equipped, highly-trained gang circling the car and then opening fire.
Both children were left alive by the killers, who had clinically pumped bullets into everybody else, including five into Mr Mollier.
Zainab was found staggering around outside the car by Brett Martin, a British former RAF serviceman who cycled by moments after the attack, but he saw nobody except the schoolgirl.
Her sister, Zeena, was found unscathed and hiding in the car eight hours later.
Both sisters are now back in Britain, and are believed to have been reunited at a secret location near London.
There are of course a number of hit squad options, both governmental and private, which might well involve iraqi or Iranian interests – on both of which the mainstream media have been very happy to speculate while almost unanimously ignoring Israel.
But what interests me is why the Daily Telegraph choose, in the face of all the evidence, to minimise the horrific nature of the attack by stating that “Both children were left alive by the killers”? Zainab was not left alive by design, she was shot in the chest and her skull was stove in, which presumably was a pretty serious attempt to kill a seven year-old child. The other girl might very well have succeeded in hiding from the killers under her mother’s skirts, as she hid from the first rescuers, and then for eight hours from the police.
The Telegraph article claims to be informed by sources close to the investigation. So they believe it was a group of people, and feel motivated to absolve those people from child-killing. Now what could the Daily Telegraph be thinking?

Here comes the Oil* for Food program. The greedy and corrupt UN and NGO officials haven’t had their fair share of spoils yet. Will our Mr. X, ex-Chicago — don’t confuse him with Prisoner-X — get his fair share.

here, I’ll try to make sense of the story as told by Yehuda bello, who claims to know lall sorts of people, including family members and Mossad insiders.
The gist of the tale is as follows: Zygier did change his name to ben Alon in Israel and at the request of mossad became also ben Alon in Australia. That allowed the Mossad to use the name benjamin Zygier as cover for the agent who worked for the company in Milano, along with the other two australian israelis. Our newly minted ben Alon was asked to continue and provide “cover’ for that benjamin Zygier by occasionally pretending to call from Europe to his family, inventing even an ex-girl friend Allison from South Africa, complaining about the weather etc. It is claimed – by his family according to yehuda that they never called Europe themselves, it was always ben calling them.
Then the story thickens – at some point Mossad asked our X (not the other guy in Milano) to change his name again in Australia – this time to ben Allen – and no one noticed – in Australia that’s not the same as ben Alon (what’s an “e” between friends?).
Then in 2009 the plot thickens. An enemy agent pretending to work for the ASIS befriended Ben, and somehow, along the way, discovered the benjamin Zygier identity in Milano. That endangered the Milano operation which is claimed to have been a huge success up to that point. the mysterious Australian ‘agent’ then disappears and our Zygier (now what name?) contacts ASIS or ASIO on his own to make inquiries. One thing leads to another, the ASIO is now on to him (and never tells a thing to ASIS!), news accounts come out, ben returns to israel, Jason K’s story makes headlines (thanks to a tip by the ASIO in 2009) and Ben is confined to house arrest on march 4 (note again the discrepancy with the date Australian sources are providing of sometime before february 24). Then he gets sent to Ayalon prison on march 10 and is “disappeared” (but not really – his family has all kinds of contact with him). the mossad accuses him of spilling the beans on the false agent benjamin Zygier of Milano, thus burning the Milano operation. Ben maintains his innocence, saying that mysterious agent found out on his own and he wasn’t guilty of compromising the operation.
fast forward to december; ben Zygier is depressed especially following the birth of his daughter. He is prescribed an anti-depressant which is why when freedman meets him he doesn’t seem suicidal. But he is and eventually succeeds in offing himself.
Case closed. Bello will not bellow any further news because it is now all tied up tidily. Mossad is off the hook, Ben Zygier is an innocent caught in a web of deceipt, the families are all good guys, the daughter is his, and the his composure per the attorney’s account is explained. No traitor was he, the Milano operation was successful but had to be closed, no agent of the super-competent mossad got caught, mysterious australian ‘enemy’ agent disappeared (hinted: probably by Mossad), suicide, tranquilizers traces – all cleared up. Everyone move on please.
Remaining unexplained: Ben Burrow identity, trips to Iran, Lebanon etc,, over-reaction by Mossad and of course, that strange strange “befriending” by the mysterious Australian agent. one more little puzzle – in 2009 supposedly ben Zygier is at Monash university where his mother works too. The jewish community is tight, and no one knows him as Benjamin Zygier? and how exactly did the Australian ASIO get hold of the Milano company address and why did it decide to spill the beans to a reporter? why indeed.

Learning of Prisoner X/Ben Zygier’s wife being of Polish Jewish descent now has me asking some questions about the disappearance of a Polish scientist working in Canada for the National Research Council in the field of nanotechnology. He specialized in biological regeneration. Nanotechnology is often used in pharmacology, as a method of improving drug delivery.

An aside, I am not sure that this Israeli Maya would be a fluent Polish speaker. Something I read about her – she grew up in Israel so what Polish she knows would be remnants her parents may still speak. Chances are that this maya is third generation removed from Poland. there were hardly any jewish people left there after WWII, and yes, quite a few settled in UK and many more went to israel (after the war, England was not exactly super-welcoming to refugees….and the US had strict immigration quotas too (lobbied for by the zionists, no less!) but israel totally was welcome one and all, so much of the polish jewish remnants settled there. And to the best of my knowledge, Polish jews and non-jews totally didn’t mix post WWII – for various reasons – in the UK, in the US or anywhere else. So we have to be careful when looking at various links between people.
More impressions (and that’s all they are, supported by a little background knowledge): maya in Israel would be considered an “Anglo”, like Ben Zygier, ie, from English-speaking families – that would be [part of] their bond. Something also tells me that PETA activism and this young Maya would not track together. She looks somehow too soft for that (but that’s just an impressions, and looks can deceive).

Two men and a woman were arrested in Madrid and Santander in the north of the country, police said on Friday. The evidence indicates that the ring was allegedly directed by the Iranian embassy in Madrid.
Those arrested, including a legal advisor with Spanish citizenship and a translator had infiltrated reported to a dissident organization in Torrelavega in northern Spain. The details of the three would have, among other things led to one of the spying was illegally arrested at the Iranian Embassy, it said.

Maariv, through sources in the prison service, reveals that immediately after Zygier’s alleged suicide in his Ayalon prison cell, intelligence personnel in civilian garb swarmed his cell. They prohibited access to emergency services, the coroner or prison officials to perform their customary duties in such cases:
Magen David Adom was summoned in order to certify his death. As opposed to other similar cases, the police were only called later. Even then [after they arrived] they and the forensics lab personnel were not permitted to enter the cell to examine the scene. Only hours later, after officials from different security and police agencies visited the site, was the forensics team permitted to enter.
Officially, police and Shabak officers refused to acknowledge the incident. The prison service and Shabak agreed only to say that a prisoner had committed suicide in his cell. Personnel within the prison were astonished at this version and agreed that there is more unknown than known regarding the circumstances of his death.
One prison official even says the suicide story beggars belief because there are four video surveillance cameras in the cell. Zygier was imprisoned for eight months in a cell from which he was never allowed out, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It had an iron door which permitted no view of the hallway outside so he could not communicate with the outside world. The cell had only two small windows–which permitted some fresh air to enter from the outside–a small refrigerator and hot plate.
The Maariv story concludes with this suggestive and mysterious sentence:
Once his death was established, each of the agencies and individuals [that visited the cell] was handed a table of names that were mentioned in various documents. Each agency indicated the name under which the deceased was known to it.
This indicates a high level of coordination among the various entities that might be blamed for his death. They desperately wanted to be sure to have all their ducks in a row. If this isn’t an incipient cover-up, I don’t know what is.

It was a “suicide proof” cell, padded, with 2 or 4 cameras, nothing that might be used to hang things from, but also a separate bathroom with no cameras, loose sheets, and now a fridge and hotplate?
