Naomi Wolf 60

Here is Naomi Wolf speaking yesterday in Glasgow.

According to Statcounter, so far at least 1,956 people have watched the youtube of my own speech from this website alone – yet the Youtube webcounter is currently showing 288. Can anyone explain this?

With thanks to Node, this is the transcript of my speech:

Thank you very much. It’s great to be here. It’s fantastic to be following Pat. What a speech. You know, we had Jim Murphy and Dougie Alexander saying that Nationalists are all violent and intimidating, whereas actually we’re sitting down to Pat, talking about medieval history and Noam Chomsky.

We have not lost. We are still here and we are still fighting for independence, and we have built with 1.6 million people the biggest social movement in Scottish history, and it’s going forward.

Two weeks before the vote, the Financial Times published that for the first time ever in the United Kingdom, there were now one hundred billionaires, and the Financial Times seemed to be proud of that. It is a disgrace that there are one hundred billionaires in the country where we have food banks because children are going hungry. We are here because we want to create a country which has no hungry children and no billionaires.

The reaction to the referendum result has been for politics at the Westminster level to move still further to the right. We have seen Ukip make advances in the last few days and when you see Ukip campaign on the ground, their strategy, their entire propaganda, is purely based on racism, and it is appalling that they are getting elected in England in bye-elections, and the response to that at Westminster has been to say that everybody should move further to the right and onto the same ground. We’ve got the Labour party saying they’re going to be tougher on immigration, everybody striving to be more racist than the next person. I was in Dundee campaigning and I was told by an old lady she’d been told do not vote for Independence because the SNP will let all the black people in, and that was the Labour party who were saying that.

We have got to recover the moral ground. We have got to build an ethical country, a country we can be proud of – in its politics, in its multi-culturalism, in its inclusion, in its social provision for those more needy, we have got to change.

I’m not interested anyway, frankly, in a few more powers for the Scottish parliament. For me it makes no difference at all if they can change income tax a penny this way, a penny that way, if they’re still sending our children to fight and die in illegal wars.

We have to move towards a future, a future of independence. I don’t just have hope, I have certainty that we’re going to get there, and next time as we campaign as a country, it goes forward, we’re going for full and true independence.

We are saying “No to Trident“, but we are also saying “No to Nato“. We are also saying “No to the pound sterling,” we’ll have our own currency. And we are saying “No to the queen“, we don’t need her. And I’ll tell you this, when the queen was purring down the telephone to David Cameron, that was not purring, that was the death rattle of the monarchy in Scotland.

We are moving forward. We are going to win, and we are going to be a free and independent nation. Thank you.

As regulars here know, my forte is the one hour talk. You can’t develop an argument in five minutes. But my basic thinking, which I tried to get across to people, is that the Tory leaning SNP supporters of Broughty Ferry and their ilk voted No anyway. A genuine argument for the Scotland we want, promoted with real passion, is more appropriate now than Independence Lite, or the “don’t worry nothing will change” approach.

No Nato, No Pound Sterling, No Monarch should be the motto.

Media propaganda and environmental factors like poverty might mitigate racism,/i>

What the $!#@! Poverty mitigate racism? How’s that supposed to work.

just like they might mitigate violent crime.

Are you mistaking the meaning of mitigate for exacerbate or what?

The idea that the working classes are inherently noble, even when they are bigoted racist bastards, is not one I will ever subscribe to.

So what you’re saying is that the British working classes, whether Scotch or English, who object to the transformation of the character of their neighborhoods by an mass influx of aliens of a different race and religion, are just “racist bastards.”

Well as a descendant of the English working class of the now majority ethnic city of Leicester, may I suggest that you are a genocidal bastard.

” They should visit the South side of Glasgow where I was drinking last night. Hugely improved by the large Asian population.”

Yes I’m sure that comment has won the hearts and minds of the indigenous population but then perhaps they were all thick and evil unionists.

“Great! There’ll be nothing wrong with Glasgow at all once the Scotch have been entirely replaced by Asians.”

I was chatting to a guy in the pub the other night, we works in Scotland. He said the city he works in voted no, but went on to say how not many actual Scottish people lived their.

So it would seem, without independence, this replacement is reality to a large extent.
Yet the implication is the opposite. ?

Ironically, Naomi Wolf has long been declared “Self-hating Jew” by the organized Jewry and Islamophobe industry for praising Islam for giving more rights to women than the Judeo-Christianity.

“The West interprets veiling as repression of women and suppression of their sexuality. But when I travelled in Muslim countries and was invited to join a discussion in women-only settings within Muslim homes, I learned that Muslim attitudes toward women’s appearance and sexuality are not rooted in repression, but in a strong sense of public versus private, of what is due to God and what is due to one’s husband. It’s not that Islam suppresses sexuality, but that it embodies a strongly developed sense of its appropriate channeling – toward marriage, the bonds that sustain family life, and the attachment that secures a home,” – Naomi Wolf, an American Jewish feminist in her article titled ‘ Behind the veil lives a thriving Muslim sexuality’.

I see Craig you have concerns for food banks for food banks .. n a welfare state
Where are your concerns for domestic violence, neglect, and impoverishment through societal shortcomings of which alcohol which you aspire to indulge in has such a “detrimental effect” on civil society Nevermind the faschistic methods of parenting where much harm is done. I’d fall down telling you the negative effects from our liberalization but hey were all adults rite!

Oh yes I missed Mr Pat Condell out. The man who doesn’t like Muslims, especially those imprisoned in Gaza.

    Israel and “Palestine”

I used to be a lot more critical of Israel until I stopped looking at the situation emotionally and looked at the facts.

I’ve made several videos about this subject, so I won’t go over it again here, except to say that I now believe that the only obstacle to a peaceful solution is Arab Muslim intransigence driven by crude religious hatred, and that the western world is collaborating with a monstrous lie.

In short, I support Israel, a civilised pluralist democracy where all citizens, Jewish and Arab, are equal.

    Don’t believe the “apartheid” propaganda.

Here are a few videos telling the truth about Israel and “Palestine”.

You are missing the point Craig. I offered a reason why people may get the wrong idea, and why they blame those ‘pesky foreigners.’

I also haven’t given any opinion on whether or not a community is enhanced by multiculturalism. I’m merely gifting you with another point of view from someone that has lived and worked among those “bigoted, racist bastards” as you’d call them. Poverty wouldn’t make a person noble or bigoted, but it can make one bitter. You have declared your position time and time again. (You despise poor people). Best of luck with winning over Scotland!

Is not racism the feeling of superiority? There is a feeling of being sold out by their government, by a people that don’t really understand a global market. They have, in a sense, been sold down the river, at least by their expectation of what it means to be part of a nation.

The area that I was talking about earlier had Ashok Kumar as the local representative and as unpalatable as you may find this Craig, he did very, very little for people outside the asian community there. It pissed an awful lot of people off. He also bled the Tatar deal dry for his own ends. Had he been a more even player in the affairs of the locals then I doubt his racial heritage would have highlighted any concerns, he would just have been seen as another politician with his hand in the trough. – the reason i mention this is, at that time I had similar views to you about the simple minded folk and their racist ideas. That was a fault I used to have. Hearing the N or P word bandied about was pretty horrific at first, I soon realized that in many cases there was no malice or judgement behind it, it was just a bit unfortunate.

People in your position that can’t and won’t try and talk to the people they deem as unworthy are a large reason why people default to voting with bigotry. (Remember Gordon Brown’s bigot statement?)

Aww.. since I’m ranting anyway… Consider this – you, and others may have decided intellectually that the modern world is x, and people should be happy to subscribe to it. That it is progressive etc and blah blah blah, but you aren’t the one living in all of it. It’s a great idea that we should all get along, in some cases it doesn’t work and when that happens you ignore or belittle the complaining voices.

Learn to educate. Change your approach or admit that you’re doing this for yourself and nobody else.

I see Westminster is more than considering selling another state asset, (probably constructed with the profits North sea assets) Eurostar, but there’s a fly in the ointment, as a inquiry is to be held into the fiasco sale, that was Royal Mail, which could hold things up.

    UK owns 45% of Eurostar

    France owns 55% of Eurostar

    Belgium owns 5% of Eurostar.

” Meaningless tosh. Have the peoples of the 150 odd nation states that achieved independence since 1945 failed to look after their families?”

Alex Salmond only listed 30. The UN only lists 190 stable sovereign states in the world.

How many of the countries gaining independence since 1945 are now on the Failed State Index?

It’s not the same thing at all and is racist. Try turning it around and claiming that an area with a significant black or Jewish population was improved by an influx of white Scots.

There are 55 states in Africa alone. 53 of those became independent since 1958. That’s just Africa.

Europe – Minimum of 17 independent since 1945. Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Macedonia, Slovenia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Cyprus, Malta, Kosovo (dispute) North Cyprus (dispute).

Personally I would argue that Poland, Hungary and Romania also only achieved independence from the Soviet Empire 25 ears ago. In my view they were colonies.

Asia – India. Pakistan. Burma. Nepal. Bangladesh. Sri Lanka. Indonesia. Malaysia. Bhutan. Uzbekistan. Kirghizstan. Kazakhstan. Turkmenistan. Mongolia. Tajikistan. Maldives. Vietnam. Korea. There are many more. Actually every single country in Asia, I think, except China and Afghanistan.

There are loads of wee island states I can’t be bothered to recall. Pretty well every Middle Eastern state except Iran was a British or French mandate or protectorate.

Really Fred, your extraordinary hostility to independence does lead you to spout utter nonsense sometimes. There are 193 nation states at the UN. In 1945 there were 51.

So has anyone taken Naomi Wolf’s complaint/evidence re incorrect electoral procedure further??

Who are the people who have got the runaround to date from, the police, the council etc.?

“We are also saying “No to the pound sterling,” we’ll have our own currency.”

Would that be just another Central Bank-controlled currency 97% issued by the likes of RBS, HBoS, HSBC? Have you listened to what the ‘Prosperity’ organisation in Glasgow has to say about Sovereign Currencies issued for the benefit of the people, not the commercial banks?

Reply from Scottish Office to a complaint about ballots being blank on backside .
What is surprising is she said that it would be no reason to discount the ballot, which breaches the Scottish Independence Referendum Act 2013

Thank you for your email of 05 October regarding the referendum on Scottish independence.
This has been passed to me for a reply.
The conduct of the referendum was the responsibility of the Chief Counting Officer (CCO)
and the 32 local Counting Officers.
The CCO has issued a statement confirming that she is satisfied with the conduct of the
referendum count process. This statement can be found at
    http://www.electionsscotland.info/.
You have raised a specific concern about the back of your ballot paper. It would not be
appropriate for the Scottish Government to comment on any individual case. However,
a member of the CCO’s team has provided the following information about the processes
involved in printing and counting ballot papers, which I hope you find reassuring.
 Counting Officers have robust quality control procedures in place at the printing of
ballot papers. Before being issued to the polling places the papers were checked by
    the Counting Officer’s staff.
 No paper could have been issued which was blank on the reverse. The reverse
carries the ballot paper number which is recorded on the ‘corresponding numbers list’
next to the elector number of each voter, so that in the event of an investigation of an
electoral event the papers can be matched to the voter. That list is kept secret and
secure and only to be accessed on the instructions of the courts. The presiding
officer/poll clerk who issues the paper to the voter must take a note of the ballot paper
number when it is issued. If the paper did not have such a number, then it could not
    have been issued.
St Andrew’s House, Regent Road, Edinburgh EH1 3DG
    http://www.scotland.gov.uk
    abcde abc a
 Across Scotland there were only 3429 papers rejected at the counts. This link shows
the reasons why these ballot papers were rejected:
    http://www.electionsscotland.info/emb/info/13/referendum/43/scottish_independence_
    referendum_2014_-_analysis_of_rejected_papers_do_not_make_visible. None were
rejected on the basis of being blank on the reverse. Even if a paper was blank on the
reverse, this would not have been a reason to reject it at the count.
 Both campaigns had observers at the polling stations watching ballot papers being
issued. None of these observers raised any concerns. Polling agents from the
campaigns can be present at each polling station at the opening of polling and are
able to witness the empty ballot box being sealed. They are also able to witness the
box being sealed at the close of poll and to witness the polling process throughout the
day as each paper is issued. The sealed boxes are only opened at the count. Every
paper is accounted for – whether it is used (in the box) unused or spoilt. These
verification checks are done in the presence of witnesses and agents from each
campaign, and the reconciliation statement is shared with them.
    Yours sincerely,
    NATASHA GRIFFITHS

    Thanks DoNNyDarKo,

But what was the pile of papers that Naomi Wolf was waving on stage?

Did anyone keep any such ballot papers that were considered irregular?

  • DoNNyDarKo

Not sure.. I wondered exactly the same thing.I think it might be hard copy of the emails sent to her compaining.
I came away from the vote thinking that all these so called backward democracies where they use indelible ink on the thumbs of the voters was maybe not such a bad idea. Our referendum was so open to fraud that I’m even suspicious of SNP motives since so little was said about the anomalies, departures from procedure, usual counters being given the evening off and they go on and on.

And now the nut-jobs take over. What Salmond carefully stitched together as the Devo Max con, the ‘true believers’ abandon for the ‘real’ meaning of independence. Bobby Sands cried out on his death bed for – ‘the pure republicanism’. And what happened – the Chuckle Brothers! Of course, Craig isn’t quite up to missing a good meal – flu knocks him sideways. But he tries to conjure up a little intensity. But no analysis. No serious thinking. Just ‘no this’ and ‘no that’ – and the people will say, to coin a phrase – No Thanks – again.

Britain’s inequality is worsening with the richest 10 per cent now controlling more than half the country’s wealth, according to the new Credit Suisse global wealth report.
