Where do I find the campaign to stop Blair?
A massive task of mobilisation lies ahead to prevent the elevation of Tony Blair to President of the European Union. The issue has potential to unite the vast majority of the British people. Imagine the Countryside Alliance and Stop The War demonstartions combined. It is essential that people accept a “Big tent” campaign that unites around the single objective of preventing Blair’s appointment by amking clear to Brussels that it is completely unacceptable to the European Union.
I had always been a supporter of EU membership, but even the possibility of Blair’s appointment crystallises for me the arrogance of Brussels and the increasing distance between EU institutions and people. Should the EU become headed by a war criminal, I shall defintely conclude it is time to leave.
(I wrote that off-the-cuff and might amend it slightly here and there if I had more time.)
dreolin: always good to have reservations about sources. thanks for analysis. also good to point out that the Yes vote was shamelessly plugged by the Catholic Church and Ryan Air, to captive audiences. the words unholy partnership spring to mind.
still, in my part of the countryside, few people had any reason to love what they had heard of Europe or Blair. some were falling for the bribery/fear. but many people who voted no were saying there was no point in voting again. they sounded defeated.
I should have added that irrespective of who was running the No campaign, economic fears probably would have won the day – although people should have realised that a No vote could not and would not throw us out of the EU.

I’d have dearly loved to set up a “Refuse to Vote Again” campaign. The arrogance of them to ask us twice. Unfortunately my health is not up to the protest/campaign trail these days (other than on the internet).

Sadly, that makes a lot of sense, and is also worrying. Obnoxious parties offering full employment are liable to be attractive in a recession. Like in Weimar Germany in the 1930s.

Dreolin, the Lisbon Treaty does state that any person may bring issue to the EU after gathering a petition with 1 million signatories and only then will the commission decide if they feel your issue is worth addressing. So I think you are kidding yourself if you feel that you have any kind right in determining the EU Presidency. Surely you should be campaigning for your democratic right to vote for an EU leader before even suggesting who that might be.
But perhaps you are in favour of Lisbon? If so, then shut up because if you ask for an unelected leader then that’s exactly what you’re going to get.
Bill, dreolin pointed out in an earlier post that she was against the treaty. I think we have really been stuffed on this one – no-one was really looking at the contents of the Bill at all, it seems. Have posted on the thread above that it authorises both summary execution and the death penalty. No mention of this in the papers. Perhaps there was a D notice or perhaps journalists have not been doing their (grits teeth) jobs.

I’m sure you’re a smarter guy than I, but I did wonder how you had a blind spot on that one. This has all been long planned Craig. The E.U. will just turn into another U.S.A.. Like it isn’t corrupt enough already!
I’m quite intrigued by the Polanski case. He’s had 25 years of freedom and has visited Switzerland many times before he was arrested there so why now? His latest film ‘The Ghost’ is a political thriller starring Pierce Brosnan as an ex British Prime Minister. I’m not saying that Polanski should walk free from his crimes but the timing of his arrest, weeks before shooting this new film is poignant.

Like trout and semen, swimming against the anti-religion directional flow of the above comments, I would like to make the point that in the Qur’an there is a good description of people like Blair. Something to the effect that: they say that they will take the responsibility for others who go along with their crimes. . Blair hasn’t yet taken a shred of responsibility for anything. Democracy is the mechanism by which our leaders evade responsibility. If you remember, the dictator Saddam got hung.
Even if you lot don’t, I take comfort from the promise that, if he doesn’t repent, and he continues to use high office to commit war crimes, Blair will be sufficiently and justly rewarded later.
Blair enjoys swimming against the flow of both commonsense and morality, and maybe he really believes that he is right as well. By this definition he is psychotic, several stages worse than being a dangerous nutter.
I’m hoping this media ‘Blair unstoppable’ stuff is just another attempted re-run of his trouncing of Brown in 1994. In other words his chums and spin doctors trying to create the impression that he’s unassailable until it becomes reality. I think the EU will be harder to manipulate than the UK, but maybe I’m being too optimistic. The prospect of this ghastly man becoming EU president is horrifying.

I agree that for Blair to be president of any of the 3 branches of the EU is simply ghastly.
Again, for the sake of clarity: Blair is being nominated for the presidency of the European Union Council and NOT of the EU.
Contrary to popular belief and mis-information in the press and in many blogs, Blair is being put forward for the European Council presidency — to sort of manage the Council, a ‘unifier’ of some kind if you want, and NOT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION.
There are three groups in the EU: EU Council which is composed of heads of states, EU Parliament whose members are elected by their respective nations in a Europe-wide parliamentary election, and the EU Commission which is headed by President Baroso, the branch of the EU that sort of takes care of the day to day affairs of the EU and staffed by top ranking civil servants from member countries.
This CREEP has thought of nothing of taking advantige of his previos position & making LOADS of money without a thought of all the people he has killed with his ILLEGAL Wars.
The only president he should be is of a S**t house.

Tony Blair should be stopped – full stop. When he stands before a war crimes tribunal the people of Iraq might get some justice and he might be shut up for good.

It seems the Blair power brokers are backing off. The man is hated by so many they probably thought it would actually damage their agenda of further E.U. integration by forcing him in. So democracy isn’t quite dead yet then. Not too long to wait though i’ll warrant…
