Greek Commandos Intercept US Gaza Ship 103

Here is a video of Greek commandos pointing automatic weapons at the US vessel of the Gaza peace flotilla. The contriving of all authorities to attempt to prevent the flotilla from leaving is quite remarkable – including US and Greek governments. It is to me quite astonishing that we live in a world where it is now perfectly accepted by all officialdom and mainstream media that humanitarian protest should simply be stopped.

Jack, how could Israel “run the world”? It just isn’t powerful enough. I smell a front. Look at Azra’s comment: “American Jews on the top and African ones at the bottom”.
    .
The real power lies elsewhere. Israel does something useful for someone, and will take the fall-out at the appropriate time. Yet again, Jews will have been used.

  • mary

Mark – that was a good find. One wonders whether Israel is still working to this strategy formulated in the 80s and written up by Oden Yinon. It calls for fragmentation of the surrounding Arab states and de-Palestinization of Palestine. Is the Israeli tail actually wagging the US dog?
    .
‘Oded Yinon is an Israeli journalist and was formerly attached to the Foreign Ministry of Israel. To our knowledge, this document is the most explicit, detailed and unambiguous statement to date of the Zionist strategy in the Middle East. Furthermore, it stands as an accurate representation of the “vision” for the entire Middle East of the presently ruling Zionist regime of Begin, Sharon and Eitan…..’

Azra, I think you’re spot-on, again. Interesting to learn of your personal take in this regard. A good example of this stratification is illustrated in Ariel Sabar’s book, ‘My Father’s Paradise’ about his (Jewish Iraqi) family to get a whiff of the endemic racism within Israel. Mary, Mark, good on you for your activism in this matter!

  • Courtenay Barnett

    @ Mary,

Does this sentence at page 24 not sum it all up:-

” Every kind of inter-Arab confrontation will assist us in the short run and will shorten the way to the more important aim of breaking up Iraq into denominations as in Syria and in Lebanon.”

In other words – divide and conquer and rule.

  • Clark

Mary, yes, that is what Israel will continue to do, creating chaos, fragmentation, and maximum resentment – and all without a hope of eventual victory. Israel has under 8 million people. Egypt alone has 80 million, Iran has 75 million. OK, Israel has some nukes, but how close to home can they deploy them without suffering the fallout themselves? This isn’t like the USSR vs. the USA, thousands of miles apart, fighting with ICBMs. And nukes are only good once; when they’re gone, they’re gone.
    .
Israel cannot be said to be acting in Israel’s own best interests. Not in the long term. So whose interests does Israel serve?

  • mark_golding

    Clark,

Israel has an ICBM the Jerico 3 – what concerns me is Israel’s carbon fibre/Aluminium thermonuclear variable low yield lightweight bombs. Maybe a hundred networked spatially aware drones would carry these things in a typical ‘swarm’ strike. Drones can fly very high or drop very low below the radar horizon.
    .
Israel is building these drones from American drawings and UAV controllers are receiving intensive ‘live’ training after Obama accelerated the drone program(NB). Our own ‘war rooms’ are using young kids with extensive gaming experience to control these obscene machines – from nuke to law enforcement CS gas/angel dust crowd control, these myopic vile multi-threading satanic reapers are the emperor’s silver bullet.

  • Clark

Mark Golding, I agree, Israel is armed to the teeth. But that doesn’t fundamentally help their situation. They are on a relatively tiny strip of land, surrounded (but for the Mediterranean), vastly outnumbered, and they can’t use nukes too close to home. I’m not saying that madness isn’t involved, mind.

Happy Independence Day all you Americans whose President Hopey Changey issued these threats via Shillary on 30 June 2011 –

Obama Admin Warns of Fines and Incarceration for Gaza Aid Flotilla – Democracy NOW!

A group of U.S. citizens is rejecting the Obama administration’s attempt to thwart their aid mission to the Gaza Strip, which threatens to leave them stranded in Greece. They are set to sail from a Greek port on a U.S.-flagged ship called “The Audacity of Hope,” part of an international humanitarian flotilla carrying aid for Gaza’s 1.5 million Palestinian residents. Flotilla members are taking part despite Israeli threats to intercept their ships. Nine people were killed in an Israeli attack on the first aid flotilla just over a year ago. The Audacity of Hope passengers have called for the U.S. government’s help in ensuring their safe passage. But instead, the Obama administration has told them not to set sail and even warned them they could face punishment back home. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton suggested Israel would have the right to use force to prevent the ships’ passage. The State Department called the flotilla “irresponsible and provocative” and warned that U.S. delegates could face “fines and incarceration.” We play an excerpt from a press conference when State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland is repeatedly questioned about the Obama administration’s threat, but refuses to answer whether the U.S. considers the Israeli
blockade of Gaza to be legal.

‘So whose interests does Israel serve?’
I’ve often wondered. There’s definitely a very close relationship between the UK, US and Israel but which is the top dog I don’t know. Very often things are not as they seem and there’s a front. I believe the UK instead of the colonies has a shadow economy run by the government within the government and implemented by the intelligence services, who are involved in all sorts of illegal activities to gather funds.

I agree Mary and I hope the pigeons obliterate this B-Movie gangster who armed Nicaraguan fascists with the proceeds of secret arms to Iran deals; got away with lying like all American Presidents with Ollie North as the fall guy and which led to Terry Waite being kept in solitary, blind-folded and chained to a radiator in Beirut for 5 years…
    .
Remember Terry? You know the ideal intelligence asset: committed, brave, gregarious, trustworthy, able to take people into his confidence, and with an appearance of utter integrity.

Reagan and the CIA fucking screwed him, so, bollocks to the statue, I’d rip it down.

Was having a drink with a Hungraian Jewish friend yesterday, what he said was ” It is good that Israel is behaving like this, now the whole world know how bad they are!”. Suhyal, have added “My father’s paradise” to the list of ” To Read”. My friend also recommended another book ” Farewell,Israel” by Ephraim Sevela, another pissed off Russian Jew!

I have just left this on the Guardian’s Greek Q&A website, see how long its stays there
Since when, in the birth place of democracy, is it possible for the Greek Government to harrass people and break international laws of the sea? How is it possible that Israeli politician Papanyahu can asign his port authorities over to Israel?
Why is the Guardian quiet on this story, is it due to collaboration or just ignorance? Apparently the bailout is boasted to be down to Netanyahu’s pleading, in return for stopping the peace flotilla from sailing, by any means.
Sofar we have seen the sabotage of a ship in a greek harbour, arrest of the captain under trumped up charges and the arrest of hunger strikers in front of the US embassy, including an ex presidential advisor Ray Mc Govern.

Tell us greek people, do you agree with such usurpation of your politicians by Israel, who is currently dominating the media with lies and innuendo,. They have murdered with impunity on the Mavi Marmara, never to be judged, now they are proposing to do the same again.

This video has been seen by more than 15.000 of us, you cannot keep such violent international conspiracies secret, not you and not the BBC.

A deplorable chain of events, but not that remarkable — there is no defence against peaceful action except negotiating (which can be excluded in a case like this).
I’m sure that Israel in general prefers armed opposition because that offers them a base to use the military. Although Greece does not deserve any sympathy for their move, they too are victims of the situation — blackmail. No excuse for Washington though, which should support peaceful protest against injustice by its own citizens.

Perhaps better read in this thread…

“Let me play devil’s advocate for a second. I genuinely don’t know the answer: Is there enough space in Palestine/Israel to allow a right of return given the influx of Jews that has happened since the fall of the Berlin Wall?
If the goal is to create a Palestinian state — as opposed to a scattering of bantustans — are there sufficient resources, primarily water, to allow that to happen?
We can talk historical wrongs until the cows come home, but in a sense Bibi is right: there are “demographic realities” on the ground i.e a lot of people who are now living in these illegal settlements who weren’t there 20 years ago. Now, these people shouldn’t be there – but they are! How many tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Are they to be evicted and sent back to wherever they came from? Dangerous language, indeed.
To deflect the inevitable hail of brickbats, I should point out at this stage that I am in favour of a right of return and a Palestinian state. But that doesn’t mean to say that these questions shouldn’t be asked.
    I await your enlightening comments.”

  • jjvanka

@Barking – The boarding by armed Israeli troops was illegal and the crew has a right to defend the ship against such ‘piracy’ on open sea — including the use of arms (which was not the case).

  • jjvanka

@Mike – IMO there’s only one sensible way out of the increasing misery: the establishment of a unified state with guaranteed rights for the different groups. Apart from the demographic ‘problem’, such a solution benefits everyone.

Jonathan Cook who used to be a Guardian journalist but got out now writes from within the belly of the beast, from Nazareth. He has a Palestinian wife. He writes of the outrageous arrest and detention of Sheikh Raed Salah at the hands of the Home Secretary.

‘The British media and government, meanwhile, have stumbled cluelessly into this domestic Israeli feud and, in the name of Enlightenment values, revealed their own deep prejudices. The humiliation of Sheikh Salah at the hands of the British legal system – supposedly in the interests of promoting “decency and respect” – will serve only to remind Muslims of the hypocrisy so often evident in Western policy.’

  • mark golding

No brick-bats here Mike – only words – so in answer to your questions we glimpse at the map that shows the 1967 Israel/Palestinian borders and realise there *is* enough space to create a Palestinian State while the only concern is the water supply and sanitation in the West Bank and Gaza. Water has been redirected to Israeli settlements in some cases and Gaza’s infrastructure has been damaged by bombing.
    .
The filthy game invented by the US zionists, israel and its western allies in order to lengthen the occupation in Palestine ends on September 1st 2011.

September 1st 2011 is the Declaration of a Palestinian state and the end of the israeli occupation; not a further waiver or extension of the life of the Zionist colonialism under the pretext of so called “peace negotiations.”
    .
September 1st 2011 is a revolutionary day for all Palestinians, ENDING the israeli occupation for good and the deporting all the Zionist squatters from all the colonies in the West Bank. The Zionists colonists will have to return to behind the borders of 1967, if not in peace then by force actions and an uprising of millions.
    .
Sixty three years of living the daily catastrophe and internment by the Zionist occupiers are enough. The Palestinians WILL exercise their rights to expel the occupation in the same way as the Egyptians and Tunisians expelled the rotten dictatorial regimes from their countries.
    .
The West will either witness a bloody massacre or humanitarian deliverence when Palestinians enact their belief, ‘to die standing is better than to live prostrated on knees.’
    .
September 1 2011 is their day. The day of all Palestinians who did not sell themselves to the Zionists and their vassal USA. It is a revolutionary day to end the Israeli occupation, march of millions to expel the Zionist colonists from the West Bank.
    .
OK I am becoming resigned to seeing the Gaza block-aid continuing, until their day when all Palestinians put their blood on line for the revolution. They have had enough, we have had enough. The organisation is in place and nothing can stop it, ‘the green will burn before the dry’ and yet more deception, tricks, bribes, filthy negotiations and lies to achieve the interests of the Zionists, their lobbies and AIPAC at the expense of the Palestinian people will only remain as evidence in the new history books future generations will cherish as the turning point towards truth, and good in a world once ravished by evil.

Thanks Azra, this insipit behaviour clearly shows that you can’t trust those lefties or leave them alone in a room with MI’s.

  • mike

Thanks Jjvanka et al. “the establishment of a unified state with guaranteed rights for the different groups.” So that’s a one-state solution? I think that’s what the hardline Zionists would like to see – minus the guaranteed rights for different groups!
