Werritty Finances 130

A civil service mole has promised me some insider news about Gus O’Donnell’s planned whitewash of Fox relating to how they will treat Werritty’s finances in the investigation. This entry is being posted 45 minutes after I leave home to meet them, by an unorthodox route and method of transport, to an improbable location. Oh, and neither of us is carrying a mobile phone either. So don’t bother, you’re stuffed.

Werrity – Petar – Boulter – and, what’s this? Zabludowicz?

    Oh, yes.

    http://www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/56216/fox-friend-fixed-key-meetings-israel

“Lee Petar, a former director of communications at Israel lobby group Bicom, has found himself at the centre of the storm around Mr Werritty. Mr Petar’s PR company, Tetra Strategy, was employed by Harvey Boulter, the British businessman whose revelations have caused so much embarrassment to the Defence Secretary.

Mr Boulter’s company, the Porton Group, employed Tetra to advise them on a claim against American company 3M. A statement issued by Tetra on Monday said: “The case concerned the development of new MRSA testing technology developed by the MoD. Tetra introduced its client to Adam Werritty in March 2011, widely believed at the time to be an official adviser to Dr Liam Fox. The purpose of the introduction was to brief the MoD on the litigation.”

Tetra Strategy counts among its clients the investment company Tamares, owned by Bicom chairman Poju Zabludowicz.

The JC understands that Bicom paid for Mr Werritty to visit a previous Herzliya Conference,
while he was working for Dr Fox in opposition.”

One assumes Fox has pissed a lot of MOD / service types off with the recent defense review and his witless comments about who was responsible for decades of bungling – cue expose of his nefarious business dealings with the defense industry.

“I rang the Foreign Office in the early hours pleading for their assistance as a relative was on board. They did nothing and did not even ring me back.”
    .
So sad Mary – you have my empathy and deep sympathy to you for such disgraceful behaviour by the Foreign Office.

reading around this bizarre and fantastical episode, it is hard not to conclude, (although of course there is no evidence), that Fox has set Werrity in place as a conduit and administrator for any ‘benefits’ that might be expected to come the way of Fox in his various roles within government. Fox, as a political player needs a little distance, and it seems to me, intuitively of course , that they have colluded to have Werrity in place as the bagman. How on earth has it come to this, such a travesty of government and representation.
Mandelson got away with serial financial indiscretions. Blair got away with numerous blatant abuses of parliament. Isn’t about time there was a straightforward rule about abuse of elected positions. I sense a Bastille moment coming.

What bought ‘terrorism’ to our world – a short reminder to our children.
    .
Around the end of the nineteenth century a movement called political Zionism had begun in Europe. Its goal was to create a Jewish state in Palestine by pushing out 95 percent of its population and replacing them with immigrants.
    .
The Zionists anticipated violence because people obviously resist being expelled from their land. The announced strategy was to buy up land but the reality was intimidation and violence by a number of terrorist groups formed to fight the Palestinians and the British. In 1947 Britain relinquished control of Palestine to the UN while the Zionists pushed for a General Assembly resolution that would give them 55 percent of Palestine.
    .
America opposed the partition considering Zionism contrary to fundamental American principles [Loy Henderson memo to the Secretary of State]. Official agencies are on record as saying that Zionist leadership was pursuing objectives that would endanger “the strategic interests of Western powers in the Near and Middle East. It was President Harry Truman who acceded to the Pro-Israel lobby in a presidential election year despite being accused of trying to grab a “few more votes”.
    .
The General Assembly vote was delayed by the Zionists while a campaign of intimidation, coercion and bribery ensued which succeeded in that Res. 181 a *recommendation* for partition was passed on Nov. 29 1947.
    .
The resolution immediately increased fighting by the Palestinians who were overwhelmed by massive weaponry stealthily prepared before the UN vote. After a partial UN ceasefire 413,794 people had been forced out of Palestine and a Swedish UN mediator assassinated. Israel came into existence on 78 percent of Palestine while at least 33 massacres of Palestinian civilians were perpetuated and hundreds of villages razed.
    .
Israeli cartographers went out to rename in Hebrew every town, village, Hillock, river and copse. All vestiges of Palestinian habitation, history, and culture were to be erased from history.
    .
Israel occupied more territory in 1967 and later built a huge wall that grabbed more land. To this day Israel builds more illegal settlements on high ground demolishing many olive trees, the life blood of the Palestinians.

Craig, giving people hints in this way is NOT a good way to protect the whistleblower you’re off to meet (unless of course this is a red herring). Really, it’s a very bad idea.

Thanks, Mark, Your posts are also useful.

    http://www.middleeastmonitor.org.uk/articles/europe/841-a-reading-of-poju-zabludowiczs-first-interview-with-an-israeli-newspaper

“From the interview it is clear Zabludowicz is not the run of the mill financier. In Britain, he enjoys a de facto ambassadorial status. According to Sami Peretz, his interviewer, “Zabludowicz is the ambassador who finances and personally deals with advancing the status of Israel, but on the other hand he has sharp criticism about the information services provided by Israel.’ He is ‘well-connected to [British] politics, and in recent months he has been one of the businessmen and contributors with very close relations with David Cameron, the Conservative candidate for Prime Minister, who, according to surveys, is viewed as certain to be elected. The evening of the day he is being interviewed, he asks to finish by 18:00 because, at 19:00 he is participating in a meeting of a select few with Cameron.””

    David CAMERON? Who HE???

Mary…some years ago I was a reluctant “guest” of Charles Taylor in Liberia..I was working for a humanitarian organisation at the time and was detained along with an American collegue for 4 days…My office in UK contacted the FCO for assistance and was told by them to refer to the FCO Travel Advisory that said that travel to Liberia was strongly discouraged, so basically, tough shit, and they were given the usual brush off and given the telephone number of the BHC in Freetown, hundreds of miles away in the next country…they were just as helpful.

The American Embassy in Monrovia called in Taylor’s representative and basically told him, “You return our citizen or we will send in the fucking Marines to get him”
Surprise surprise we were released with apologies the next day.

Maybe Craig can shed some light on the attitudes of the FCO on what they can and cannot do, though I must admit I had nothing but admiration for the Embassy staff when I landed in Indonesia after the Tsunami, they were incredibly helpful in assisting with clearing my emergency response equipment through the airport.

Komodo, if you can’t see them its because today was very low flying on the agenda, Tornado seen flying at 50 mtr.s hight over Rockland St. mar, I could not see it but heard them scream past, my son did see them and they were not made of chocolate.

Gosh what have I missed today, all this excellent activity, had to earn a crust, its not getting easier.

Thanks for the great links Mary, Mark and komodo, Mark seems to be running on warp speed today 🙂 beam me up scottie!

  • Komodo

Yes, Ingo, I was surrounded by buildings at the time, At a different location, I can now hear F-18’s or something similar, probably doing long circuits and bumps from Marham. They’re above the low continuous cloud unfortunately.

Given that the mainstream media here are not doing much research on the Fox story and are playing it simply as “rather inappropriate chap tagging along with, like, oh our god, a minister of state, I think it would be a good idea to make sure as many blogs and fora as possible are aware of Zabludowicz’ generosity to the Conservatives, to Conservative Friends of Israel and to BICOM, as well as his close pre-election connection with our esteemed Prime Minister. Atlantic Bridge was only shut down last week. This too is relevant.

No wonder I call it ZBC.
    .
BBC’s Paul Danahar empathises with feelings for one captured Israeli soldier rather than for Palestinian prisoners:

    .
Paul Danahar BBC Middle East Bureau Editor
    .
‘It is hard to overstate how important the fate of Gilad Shalit is to Israel.
Almost every family in the country has a son or daughter serving in the military.
Shalit’s capture resonates with them all.
He is probably the most recognisable figure in the country.
It is for that reason that the government is ready to swap him for – according to Hamas officials -1,000 Palestinians held in Israeli jails.’
    .
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-15267100
    .
Danahasr is deliberately quoting a figure of 1,000 prisoners for the exchange so that an uninformed reader might think that is the total number in the whole of Israel. Elsewhere he says that there are 5,000. Another lie. There are actually over 10,000 Palestinians in Israel’s jails, including hundreds of children.

  • Komodo

Last time I checked the IDF had managed to kill quite close to 100 Palestinians for every Israeli killed in the course of the intifadas and the illegal blockade of Gaza. So the rate for prisoners is ten times even that? That will be because prisoners have – usually – to be kept alive, and cost money, I guess. Always follow the money….

    C3PO,

Just back. This post was an elaborate red herring which I can’t explain further for obvious reasons. Got the info but too knackered to post till morning.

I hate it when you play politics…I was looking foreward to a chase in a Ferrari, a shootout with various MI6 agents, probably a kidnapping, something involving the SAS and DELTA and a reloication to a secret villa somewhere in Sarajevo….maybe some dodgee deals with Tim Spicer and at least some blood diamonds thrown in..Ho Hum..I will probably have to settle for a nice bottle of Chilean Red when I stay at your place after Elaine and I get back from Vegas ..will send you an e mail later…

The papers are still leading with further details of Fox’s and Werrity’s junketing but the BBC put the story at about number 6 after Jo Yeates’ murder trial. They made it sound very ordinary as if it was an every day occurrence. They led with some fiction from the US about Iran conspiring to murder the Saudi Ambassador to the US.
    .
It is given low billing on their website too. ‘Liam Fox ‘row’ distracting for the MOD staff’ says Patrick Mercer.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-15252269
    .
PS Mercern ex Army is another Tory two timing good egg and then left his mistress in the lurch.

“No wonder I call it ZBC.”
    .
You call it that because you’re a bit of a crank. It’s no different from those that call it Al-Beeb for a similarly perceived anti-Israeli bias at the BBC.
    .
“BBC’s Paul Danahar empathises with feelings for one captured Israeli soldier rather than for Palestinian prisoners”
    .
Again, this suggests an either/or choice. Why would anyone necessarily have blanket sympathy for all Palestinian prisoners when some of them are clearly terrorists?
    .
Besides you are probably reading too much into the wording of the article as you usually do. This is a good deal for the Palestinians and may not be for the Israeli soldier’s family given that they don’t even know if he is alive. He was alive two years ago but things could have changed since then.
    .
Somehow I doubt he’ll come back looking like Samir Quntar, the guy who smashed a child’s head with a rifle butt, sporting a natty Hitler moustache and looking like he was fresh off the Big Mac diet. He and four other Hizbollah fighters were swapped for some Israeli bodies. The families of those soldiers also didn’t know they were dead until the actual exchange took place.

  • Aaron Anonymous

The families of those soldiers also didn’t know they were dead until the actual exchange took place.

Another slight misrepresentation there – they were believed to be dead but it wasn’t proved until the corpses were returned and identified.

“Israel had long said it believed them to have died in captivity but Hizbollah had always refused to confirm this.”

    Death on the Med.
Refusal to air DEC appeal following Cast Lead massacre.
Refusal to air Caryl Churchill’s play. Seven Jewish Children.
Always Israel says….. in biased reporting
Endless opportunities for Mark Regev to propagandize.
Hardly ever hear or see a Palestinian on BBC radio or TV.
    .
Just a few examples of the ZBC bias.
    .
By the way two Palestinians had been killed the day before Shalit was captured. He was a tank gunner in the IDF who, from watchtowers and emplacements and even by remote control, carry out turkey shoots of Palestinians including farmers and even of young boys collecting gravel which is used to repair and rebuild demolished and bombed homes.
    .
Even in this report, we have Israeli soldiers and Palestinian militants. The BBC have supported the cruel Occupation.
    .
Gilad Shalit, then 19, was abducted by a joint force of Palestinian militants who burrowed to an Israeli army guard post on the Israeli side of the border with the southern Gaza Strip.
    .
Two Israeli soldiers were killed during the raid near the Kerem Shalom checkpoint and three others were injured. Two Palestinian militants also died. Gilad Shalit – a tank gunner – was reported to have suffered shrapnel wounds to his hand and shoulder.

“Again, this suggests an either/or choice. Why would anyone necessarily have blanket sympathy for all Palestinian prisoners when some of them are clearly terrorists?”

Why would one have sympathy for an exclusive Jewish state when it was founded by terrorists and still practises terrorism?

Good question. But that’s just *my* opinion.

    🙂

  • Komodo

Looking forward to Craig’s insights into the Werrity finances. I trust the rooftop flight from the automatic-toting MI6 guy was not too debilitating?

  • Tony

One thing which is clear is that Werritty and Fox have a common interest in the defence industry. Do the Terms Of Reference of the inquiry extend to establishing whether they have a common interest in the music of the Village People? I’ve always wondered why it is the Westminster ‘Village’.

  • Sam

Come on Craig, the suspense is killing us!

The media coverage this morning switched to the trivial ‘is he gay’ (who cares?) rather than the ‘did he allow, or even pay for, an unelected, unaccountable, not-security cleared friend to make a lot of money for having privileged access to the Defense minister?’

  • Quelcrime

…and lie about it, and handle the affair so carelessly as not to be trusted with the MoD. Come on, the MoD, they have nukes and shit.

You call it that because you’re a bit of a crank. It’s no different from those that call it Al-Beeb for a similarly perceived anti-Israeli bias at the BBC.

Angrysoba you call people cranks here because you are the resident asshole.

People who call BBC Al-Beeb are simply peddling absurdity.

    https://wikispooks.com/wiki/MSM#BBC_rejects_humanitarian_appeal

    BBC rejects humanitarian appeal

In the 2008/2009 attack on Gaza by Israel known as Operation Cast Lead at least 1,417 people[8] (mostly women and children) were killed and more than 3,000 homes and hundreds of other properties, including factories, workshops, animal farms and orchards, as well as government buildings, police stations and prisons, were destroyed and more than 20,000 were damaged.[9][10]

“The level of human suffering and destruction I saw today is, from any angle, heartbreaking. It is shocking that civilians suffered so disproportionately in this military operation”. UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator John Holmes, 22 January 2009.

The Disasters Emergency Committee launched a public appeal to support its humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza. [11] The BBC, alone among the UK MSM refused to broadcast it on grounds of “Upholding the BBC’s hard won reputation for impartiality” and stood firm in its decision despite widespread criticism.[12] [13]
