“I would just like to dissociate myself from the ‘Electric Universe’ lot. Summary of why:

    http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Electric_Universe

I’ve come across the Electric Universe (EU) idea a few times and I resolved to check it out one of these days, but so far I haven’t done so. I was therefore pleased to see you offer what I assumed was going to be clear refutation of the idea. However when I checked out your link it is no such thing.

It is a scathing sarcastic dismissal of the idea but the author provides no arguments or proof to justify his view. He ridicules EU proponents with terms such as “pseudo-scientific”, “crank”, “woo-peddlers”, “deniers”, and “loony”, but the only refutation he offers is …..

“Most Electric Universe proponents claim some kind of relation to the “plasma cosmology” of the Nobel Prize laureate Hannes Alfvén. Too bad his model was rendered obsolete by the missing observations of the radio emission predicted by his cosmology.”

….. which doesn’t link to any scientific work which contradicts Alfvén’s claim or even specify which radio emissions are unobserved.

One of the reasons I want to know more about the EU theory is because some of the scientists who support it <seem to have respectable credentials (eg Hannes Alfvén, above). EU may very well be a load of hokum, but I will need more than unsubstantiated sarcasm before I dismiss it out of hand.

About a week ago I was pointing up the potential dangers for Poland in front running the anti Russian rhetoric and some dirty ops, whilst older wiser west European leaders were playing footsie with Russia behind the scenes.

I pointed out that this was an even more dangerous position for Poland because NATO hadn’t provided adequate security for them, despite multiple requests going back to 1999.

I further pointed up Poland’s here today gone tomorrow history.

Habby pooh poohed all of this of course.

But here’s Sikorski himself confirming precisely what I said:

“The Polish Foreign Minister believes his country’s alliance with the US is worth nothing and compared his government’s stance to giving oral sex and receiving nothing in return, a Polish magazine said, citing a leaked recording of a private conversation.”

“We will get a conflict with both Russians and Germans, and we’re going to think that everything is great, because we gave the Americans a blowjob. Suckers. Total suckers.”

Heseltine says that Gideon’s speech today (given at the National Rail Museum very appropriately) was ‘the most visionary he has ever heard’. LOL.

Gideon, with 10 months to go, wishes to reduce the North South divide by proposing HS3. Yet another LOL. His lot cannot even provide a decent road network and an integrated transport system.

    Pure electioneering.

A Node you sound like a researcher. O that there were more of the dissenters on this blog prepared to use your analytical approach and look at ideas instead of discarding them with a flippant wave of their blue handkerchiefs.

Unmasking Tony Blair’s ‘Interfaith’ Crusade: Using Religious Extremism to Impose a New World Order

” Whatever the case, Blair is not apologetic. This month he again defended the decision to go to war in a widely republished essay posted on his website, and once again called for more use of force in Iraq and the Middle East region to deal with religious extremists. Blair’s narrative ignores how Western Governments have encouraged extremism by waging foreign wars as well as directly supporting Islamist militias, which has gone on at least since the US armed and backed the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan in the 1970s, which helped to lay the groundwork for the formation of Al Qaeda. The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), responsible for the latest spiralling violence in Iraq, has also been linked to US intelligence – which has been covertly supporting Sunni extremists in Syria to fight the Assad government. Syrian extremists now threaten Iraq. Some believe a deliberate “divide and conquer” strategy is at play here with the US backing both sides in Iraq’s current fighting….

A Quote from a Professor Michel Schooyans of the Catholic University of Louvain, a specialist in anthropology and political philosophy” –

“One of the aims of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation will be that of remaking the major religions, just as his colleague Barack Obama will remake global society. With this purpose, the foundation in question will try to expand the ‘new rights’, using the world religions for this end and adapting these for their new duties. The religions will have to be reduced to the same common denominator, which means stripping them of their identity …

This project threatens to set us back to an age in which political power was ascribed the mission of promoting a religious confession, or of changing it. In the case of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, this is also a matter of promoting one and only one religious confession, which a universal, global political power would impose on the entire world.”

    On Internet content –

“…..Perhaps Tony Blair has already made headway in influencing government policy in the UK itself. The government of David Cameron is also increasingly denouncing extremism in its rhetoric.

I recently wrote about the authoritarian web filtering infrastructure introduced by the UK government last year under the pretext of blocking pornography. This occurred on the back of an engineered moral panic about pornography; however, the ISP filtering actually blocks a lot more than porn and the system operates without transparency or oversight.

“Recently, the government mentioned its desire to block “extremist” and “unsavoury” content (as opposed to illegal content) on the internet. This is dangerous territory. Content that is illegal can be blocked through transparent legal processes. But who will be the faceless judge that decrees what constitutes an “extreme” view and blocks communications before any law is broken or charges are laid?”

I found this article from one linked above:

The open source revolution is coming and it will conquer the 1% – ex CIA spy

    http://www.theguardian.com/environment/earth-insight/2014/jun/19/open-source-revolution-conquer-one-percent-cia-spy

Given his standing as an intelligence expert, Steele’s criticisms of US intelligence excesses are beyond scathing – they are damning. “Most of what is produced through secret methods is not actually intelligence at all. […] The National Security Agency (NSA) has not prevented any terrorist incidents. CIA cannot even get the population of Syria correct and provides no intelligence – decision-support – to most cabinet secretaries, assistant secretaries, and department heads. Indeed General Tony Zinni, when he was commander in chief of the US Central Command as it was at war, is on record as saying that he received, ‘at best,’ a meagre 4% of what he needed to know from secret sources and methods.”
    […]
“Believe it or not, 95% of what we need for ethical evidence-based decision support cannot be obtained through the secret methods of standard intelligence practices. But it can be obtained quite openly and cheaply from academics, civil society, commerce, governments, law enforcement organisations, the media, all militaries, and non-governmental organisations. An Open Source Agency, as I’ve proposed it, would not just meet 95% of our intelligence requirements, it would do the same at all levels of government and carry over by enriching education, commerce, and research – it would create what I called in 1995 a ‘Smart Nation.’

We had a now former minister from the previous Labor govt who tried to use the debate-terminating issue of “child pornography” to impose an internet filter on the whole of Oz. He went from one fuck up to the next, accusing critics of supporting kiddie porn as they tore into him and his diabolical plot to prevent people from researching, knowing or understanding things that must be hidden from us for our own good. The banned websites were, i believe, published by wikileaks in an act that was illegal because nobody was allowed to know what websites were to be blocked, including harmless websites that were added by mistake and political information websites. I’m not sure but Wikileaks might have also been on the list.

  • Peacewisher

@Roundheads: I didn’t realise that had happened. I’m on this site mostly for debate… but also to expose totalitarian tendencies 🙂

The irony of the modern British State is that in the 1980s this behaviour was exhibited by the Stasi in Eastern Germany, and we were all disgusted about their behaviour…

John Snow excellent on Channel 4 news regarding George Galloway’s petition. Doesn’t mention the 50000 march though…

I suppose they all think that getting Tony Blair out of the Middle East envoy role will be enough to pacify the peasants … of course it isn’t, but it would be a start.

    The shame of it.

‘It wasn’t until the next morning that Gerry was torn from his bed and dragged back to England – where he, Paul, Paddy Armstrong and a 17-year-old English girl, Carole Richardson, were tortured by police until they ‘confessed’, in doctored statements, to being the IRA gang behind the deadly bombing of a pub frequented by British servicemen in the small town of Guildford.

They were tortured, Gerry said, with what he believed to have been expressed, but secret, British-government immunity granted to the police. “And I mean tortured. To be held naked. To have Alsatian dogs set upon you. To be taken naked to country lanes, hooded, handcuffed. To have the hood taken off and told to open your mouth. And when I shook my head, they hit me in the head with a revolver. And when I went ‘Oh’, they stuck the gun in my mouth, put the hammer back and pulled the trigger. This is what they did. This is what they were allowed to do.”

Gerry flushed in fresh anger as he told an audience in Dublin how from his police cell he could hear Carole Richardson being kicked down a flight of stairs. The so-called Guildford Four were finally freed after 15 years, and got an apology from Tony Blair 16 years later (the files on the case remain unopened), but Carole in particular never came to terms with how their lives had been destroyed, and she died last year.’

Breadline Britain: One in three now living in poverty as chasm between rich and poor widens

    [..]
The major study, led by Bristol University, revealed a string of shameful findings.

    – Almost 18 million cannot afford adequate housing conditions.
    – 1.5 million children live in households that cannot afford to heat the home
    – 2.5 million kids live in properties that are damp
    – More than half a million children live in families who cannot afford to feed them properly
    – 12 million people are too poor to have a social life
    – 5.5 million adults go without essential clothing
    – One in every six adults in paid work is still poor.

    Breadline Britain: Children living with…
    1.5m – Inadequate heating
    2.5m – Damp properties
    500k – Inadequate food

    [..]
Despite the size of the economy doubling in the past 30 years, the number of families who cannot afford to heat their homes has also doubled in that time.

There are now 13 million people living in cold or damp homes – three million more than in the 1990s.

Recent figures also show the number of emergency food parcels handed out has soared to more than a million because of the Government’s austerity measures.

Well I presume this is another response from our Russian public schoolboy given his continuing obsession with my education and his inimitable low content high abuse style.
However his education however seems to have missed out on the general principal that when we comment on a court case you actually bother to go and read what the court actually decided. And if he had bothered to do so by going here:
    http://hudoc.echr.coe.int/sites/eng/pages/search.aspx?i=001-110267#{“itemid”:[“001-110267”]}
then he might have found that his statement that
“the ECHR makes a point of refusing to apply its own CIDT standards to America” was actually a complet load of cobblers and a fabrication. In fact the ECHR even went further and said it
“Holds that there would be no violation of Article 3 of the Convention as a result of conditions at ADX Florence and the imposition of special administrative measures post-trial if the first, third, fifth and sixth applicants were extradited to the United States;” which is of course the complete opposite of what ropeadope claimed.
Given that this is not the first time I believe I have caught this individual out making dishonest and unsupported claims might I kindly reword his last paragraph for him:

“If he wants to maintain some semblance of honest discourse, ropeadope will shut up until he’s read and grasped the documents relevant to his arguments”

He might also wish to reflect on how he has clearly frittered away what I suspect are his father’s ill-gotten gains on a public school education whose products can never quite compete with those from direct grant grammar schools.

BTW if he were to bother to study his own history properly he would know that Trotskyites very rarely emerged from the Lubyanka at all.

The simple request for evidence that Ahmad’s confession within the US was obtained as the result of torture of course remains unaddressed despite all the attempts at obfuscation. And in case the old **** asks no I don’t think the treatment of the journalists in Egyptian jails is at all justifiable – but that is a completely different case

Yes, an apology. Which is more than the relatives of all the people killed in the various bombings on the UK mainland ever got from the murdering IRA cunts who planted the bombs.

Not that the UK-hating low-lifes on this blog would ever utter a peep about that, of course.
