I do remember once posting to say that two great advantages flowing from a Yes vote would be (1) there will never be a Labour majority again in what’s left of the UK and (2) Scottish independence would get the West Lothian question off the table once and for all.

Certainly the likes of Jives and Guano seem to have a visceral, indeed genocidal, hatred for the indigenous people of England, which prompts them to utter the usual politically correct charges of racism, etc., against anyone who defends the right of the English to their own country, not just a small portion of it (which is all they have left in London, Leicester, Luton, etc.)
And I agree that such people, insofar as they speak as advocates of Scottish independence, reflect badly and unfairly on the Scots, a great people to whom the English are intimately related.
I suspect, though, that we’d have to agree to disagree on the Anglo-American project for a global empire, which for the ordinary people whether of England, Scotland or anywhere else offers a sordid liberal culture of decadence, depravity and dishonesty, the complete antithesis of the traditional Western commitment to truth, beauty and justice.
For that reason, I hope, whatever the merits or faults of Putin, that the current effort to destroy Russia as an independent nation state fails. And in fact, without failure of this drive to create a global empire, there is no hope of real national independence for Scotland or anyone else. But like you, I have no desire for Russian or Chinese or Islamic world domination. What I want is a world forever possessed of both cultural diversity and the beautiful physical and mental diversity of humankind.

I’d qualify that by (1) enlarging the list considerably (Mary, Mr Goss, the three Corporals Macky, Passerby, Fedup, etc..) and more importantly (2) deleting the words “the indigenous people of”. The hatred – the word is correct – appears to be directed at the UK/England as such (and by extension, to the Western world including the US.

I understand that the percentage of people of Afro-Caribbean and South Asian origin in Leicester and Luton (the majority of whom are probably British born anyway) is around 20%. Therefore it is inaccurate and tendentious to talk about only a “small proportion” of those cities being English or being left to the English.
