So Craig is it the scale of the attack that’s not being reported properly, or the authenticity of the attack that not been reported properly, and is it being blamed on any faction of society without yet securing evidence to prove so.

It’s good though that you have a first hand account of what happened, and I understand you not wanting to get ahead of things until all the facts are assertained as best as they can be.

We shouldn’t be surprised though by the antics of the BBC, they do have form.

Shaken, but not stirred, an Old Baily terror trial collapsed earlier this month:

“If it is the case that HM government was actively involved in supporting armed resistance to the Assad regime at a time when the defendant was present in Syria and himself participating in such resistance, it would be unconscionable to allow the prosecution to continue.

If government agencies, of which the prosecution is a part, are themselves involved in the use of force, in whatever way, it is our submission that would be an affront to justice to allow the prosecution to continue”.

    http://www.gardencourtchambers.co.uk/old-bailey-terror-trial-collapses-after-prosecution-offers-no-evidence/

And here’s how the Guardian reported it…

I would say that ISIS is an attempted take-over job of Iraq and Syria by the House of Saud, aided and abetted by the British and American governments, who in return get another bogeyman with which to keep their populations cowed.

And of course, none of these psychos give a jot about how many innocents get slaughtered in the process.

“I would say that ISIS is an attempted take-over job of Iraq and Syria by the House of Saud, aided and abetted by the British and American governments…And of course, none of these psychos give a jot about how many innocents get slaughtered in the process.”

All of which has been copiously documented. Add in NATO’s Turkey, which is the main base for ISIS and Al Nusra militias, France, which still regards Syria as part of its empire, Qatar, which shoulders the burden of much of the payroll, and Jordan, from which British and North American agents direct attacks on Syria. And then, as the recent Druze riot reminded all but the MSM, Israel which offers ISIS/Nusra, Air Support, Medical services, reconnaissance information and anything else that is needed.

The story is that “Terrorists, on three continents, backed by our own governments, attacked….”
Curiously enough one rogue neo-con newspaper in Canada (the Ottawa Citizen) actually published a couple of stories revealing these basic facts a couple of months ago. The revelations were never followed up.

Oh, and as an aside, and because I linked to a Guardian piece in my previous post, the Guardian did not allow reader’s comments on their live blog about the slaughter in Tunisia, and as far as I’m aware they haven’t allowed comments on any of their news stories about events in Tunisia.

The Independent, on the otherhand are allowing comments on their ongoing live blog:

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/tunisia-attack-the-aftermath-of-bloody-friday–live-updates-10349661.html

Some of the comments make quite interesting reading.

    From Mary’s Medialens link:

Nafeez Ahmed still seems to know what real journalism is. Probably explains his contract termination at The Guardian:

“Pentagon report predicted West’s support for Islamist rebels would create ISIS”

“Anti-ISIS coalition knowingly sponsored violent extremists to ‘isolate’ Assad, rollback ‘Shia expansion’”

    by Nafeez Ahmed:

“A declassified secret US government document obtained by the conservative public interest law firm, Judicial Watch, shows that Western governments deliberately allied with al-Qaeda and other Islamist extremist groups to topple Syrian dictator Bashir al-Assad.

The document reveals that in coordination with the Gulf states and Turkey, the West intentionally sponsored violent Islamist groups to destabilize Assad, and that these “supporting powers” desired the emergence of a “Salafist Principality” in Syria to “isolate the Syrian regime.”

According to the newly declassified US document, the Pentagon foresaw the likely rise of the ‘Islamic State’ as a direct consequence of this strategy, and warned that it could destabilize Iraq. Despite anticipating that Western, Gulf state and Turkish support for the “Syrian opposition” — which included al-Qaeda in Iraq — could lead to the emergence of an ‘Islamic State’ in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the document provides no indication of any decision to reverse the policy of support to the Syrian rebels. On the contrary, the emergence of an al-Qaeda affiliated “Salafist Principality” as a result is described as a strategic opportunity to isolate Assad.”

We are now hearing mention of 7/7!

    BiBiCee

‘Fifteen Britons have died following the attack on a Tunisian beach resort, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

But Foreign Minister Tobias Ellwood* warned the death toll was likely to rise.

He said it was “the most significant terrorist attack on the British people” since the London 7/7 bombings in 2005.

A Tunisian student linked to Islamic State (IS) carried out the gun attack in Sousse which killed 38.’

Dead student gunman was unknown to police

One of Tunisia’s top security officials has said the gunman shot dead by security forces after killing at least 27 at a beach resort was not known to authorities.

Rafik Chelli told Mosaique FM the man, believed to be a student, came from the beach hiding his Kalashnikov under an umbrella before opening fire on the tourists.

From there he entered the Hotel Imperial through the pool, shooting people as he went.

Chelli said there were many foreigners among the victims but he did not have an exact count of the nationalities.

He said authorities had a plan to protect the hotels during the month of Ramadan but this was an isolated operation that is difficult to counter against and there is never zero risk.

A witness on ITV News interviewed at the airport leaving Tunisia said she saw two gunmen.

  • Frazer

We all hope that the media get things right for a change, but little hope on that…Regards to N when you see him..

  • OldMark

    Andy @6.20pm

I also saw the woman interviewee on ITN (female, age over 65)refer to 2 gunmen- she also made supporting hand gestures, indicating the 2 locations from which she saw or heard gunfire. Several other witnesses also refer to explosions, presumably stun grenades a la Michael Stone.

Clive Myrie on the Beeb, in his introduction written by the editorial team however stressed that the attack was carried out by a ‘lone gunman’, and the subsequent news report from the resort showed what was alleged to be his corpse , covered by a blanket.

    All very strange.

  • Aussie F

There’s a simple explanation. It’s Armed Forces day, and events in Tunisia are not helpful to the shallow, jingoistic narrative. The BBC have made an editorial decision to downplay the attack, at least until the Red Arrows have finished.

Unfortunately for the BBC, it’s obvious tht British Armed forces and the foreign policy they serve, are increasing our vulnerabilty to terrorism. For reasons we all know.

These ‘Forces’ are also unable to prevent organised attacks on civilian targets.

None of this can even be hinted at on a day dedicated to militarism and public ignorance.

My Kurdish friends told me that they, USUKIS, were going to give us, Sunni Islam, a Chaliphah in Syria 12 years ago. What a lovely present from our enemies! Motive, not just to oust Assad, whom they secretly fund with oil from Basra etc, but to oust Islam, except for an extremely nasty version which no intelligent caring human would accept or adopt as their religion.

  • Andy

@OldMark, yes that’s the one. I wonder if the interview is on catch up. Looked but can only find a shortened version of the report.

  • DomesticExtremist

Thanks BobG not much news, other than he is now “talking”.

It is good to see a healthy dose of cynicism in the comment thread under the article too. Clearly the French aren’t buying the IS narrative either – though Hollande and Valls want it to be so, in order that they can enact even more authoritarian laws and hire more security goons to make the economy look a little better.

  • KingOfWelshNoir

I never thought I would catch myself using the phrase ‘In fairness to ResDis,’ but in fairness to ResDis I don’t think he is guilty of provoking an anti-Semitic narratives in the manner described by Craig.

He’s guilty of everything else though 🙂

  • fwlster

Cheers Ba’al I had forgotten about the CSM thanks for reminding me.

We could learn a lot from American journalists about old fashioned journalist integrity and standards and especially about objectivity, which doesn’t always seek to spin the news to suit the story tellers agenda.

Travelling ’round parts of New England I was struck by the just how good the local press was. Puts our local news coverage to shame.

“I never thought I would catch myself using the phrase ‘In fairness to ResDis,’ but in fairness to ResDis I don’t think he is guilty of provoking an anti-Semitic narratives in the manner described by Craig.”

King, as a story-teller, did you figure out what this whole blog entry by Craig was all about anyway? Or did he just feel that this Saturday was a good day to send everyone off on a wild goose chase?

Also, his painting of Anon/Resident dissident and Habby by the same brush only serves to reinforce stereotypes and is disrespectful of the individual commenter.

But remarks like “Gets around. CFoI of course.” (@17.50) get a pass, but serve to reinforce what Murray is denying. Maybe he needs to be more consistent? Either he has the time for it or, if he doesn’t, stop picking at random.

  • Alcyone

“Haven’t seen you on here before.”

You don’t need to see me to know that i, or anyone, can read and observe, so please drop that. It’s Craig that raised the issue rather resolutely and it remains for him to answer.

The rest of what you say is of no interest to me but thank you for trying.

  • KingOfWelshNoir

Didn’t really give it much thought. I just assumed he was peeved that his piece on the Sunday Times didn’t get the media traction it deserved and people have repeatedly told him it’s because the comments section of his blog undermines its authority. It’s not a view I subscribe too.

    Macky

    I didn’t know about that.

‘Johnson, along with other ministers in Tony Blair’s government, and many other MP’s, attracted much criticism for voting in 18 Mar 2003 for the Iraq war: “to use all means necessary to ensure the disarmament of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction” leading to the UK joining the US invasion of Iraq two days later.[7] He responded to such criticism in 21 Feb 2007 by saying “The whole cabinet believed the intelligence we were presented [with] and we made our case to the British people based on it in good faith. As we all now know, that intelligence was wholly wrong. We will be judged historically as to whether getting rid of Saddam Hussein, despite all the consequences, was a positive thing or that the consequences outweigh the positives of getting rid of a brutal tyrant.”[8]’

I don’t watch COMbbc news (I don’t have enough vomit inside me) but I was surprised that they didn’t have a film ready of the “tourist terrorists” being challenged by local brave boys, like the dastardly terrorists on the Mavi Marmara were. I seem to remember the script-readers on COMbbc news squealing with excitement, about using terms like rappelling instead of abseiling, so they could show how transatlantic they were. Odd that they’ve not blamed the tourists for being murdered but I suppose that only happens when the terrorists are Americans and zionists.

Who is reviewing the papers on Marr?

Stephanie Flanders, ex BBC economics editor and now at J P Morgan as chief market strategist for Britain and Europe. A seamless move.

The other is the Independent editor, Amol Rajan.

The subject of the Greek financial situation came up of course, following the Tunisian reports. Then the possibility of another Scottish referendum. Then osterrrity here and Gideon’s ‘Summer’ budget on 8 July. Women’s football got a mention.

Theresa May was also on Marr. She referred several times to 7/7 and the 10th anniversary which is next Friday week and she was comparing the two.

The Wiki report mentions ‘gunmen’ and 45 victims.

‘Forty-five people, mostly British tourists, were killed when armed gunmen attacked two hotels.[1][2][7][9][10][11][12][13]’

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack at the Imperial Marhaba hotel, according to SITE Intelligence Group.

There is always something very fishy when Rita Katzs’ SITE Intelligence Group is involved. SITE are the group that discovered all the AQ/OBL videos, the Foley be-heading video & all things ‘TERROR’ related, that play into the ‘official narratives’.
