When I was in Moscow recently quite a few people mentioned how surprised they had been by this change in stance from Putin which was quite a volte face from the position that used to be held by Soviet leaders. The reason why some Ukrainians honour people who undoubtedly did collaborate with the Nazis is not because of that act but because of their resistance to Soviet occupiers. It is the same (incorrect) reasoning that leads many Russians and Soviet sycophants to praise Stalin for what they see as his achievements while being blind to the Gulag, The Holodomor etc. This blog is full of people who only see black and white and cannot appreciate that the rest of the world is not like themselves.
If we want to look closer to the present day – we can look at look at how the LDPR Zhirinovsky’s fascist party does rather better in elections than Svoboda and Right Sector did in the Ukrainian elections; how the LDPR hardly ever opposes the Putin line in Parliament; how a number of former LDPR supporter grace the Russian Government and fill government appointments from time to time; how the ideas of Pinochet are more than a little popular with certain Putin supporters; how Mussolini’s corporate model is a million miles away from how Putin runs the Russian economy (together with a fusion of thought from that other Italian (or should I say Sicilian school), how racist’s such as Dmitry Rogozin (clean the filth) survive and prosper in Putin’s government ( to say nothing of the current vogue for a bit of anti-Turkish rascism; and how the Russian government makes loans to the Front National in France and similar xenophobic and fascist parties throughout Western Europe.

UK police plan to train Saudis in hi-tech crime detection techniques despite fears they could be used to find political activists, who might then be tortured.

I bought the Saker’s book – its massive – not edited at all – still got spelling mistakes and everything..but he is writing from his heart, and admits when he gets things wrong….
You can actually download it for free…but I prefer a real book – with paper.
He got a bit paranoid a year or so ago when he was outed…he wanted to remain anonymous and someone tracked him down and posted his photograph…
He responded by posting a real photo of himself his real name and everything…
I like people like that…especially if I don’t agree with them, but even more if I largely do..and I can tell his wife and family are beautiful.

1. I don’t confuse Algebra with simple arithmetic, if you read closely I compare my choosiness with whom I expiain 2+2= 4 to Tony Opmoc’s fro explaining algebra. That is not the same thing as confusing Algebra with simple arithmetic.
2. I this context 2+2=4 is not simple arithmetic ( I actually think that you could master that) but an idiom for something that is fairly straightforward logic ( which you clearly cannot master).
