Doune the Rabbit Hole Final Line-Up 163

I spent the morning at a Stirlng Council licensing panel organising the licenses for the Doune the Rabbit Hole Festival this year. Happy to say that the council – both officers and councillors – could not have been more conscientious or more helpful. I have been spending a fair bit of time on community engagement for the festival this year, and have also extended my activity to quite a heavy involvement in the more established Eden festival. Being with nice people organising something joyous helps keep me going, and if it requires the odd gap in blogging, it keeps me both sane enough and happy enough to plough on, and manages to be very hard work and immensely refreshing all at the same time.

The final line up for Doune the Rabbit Hole is now complete:

I will again see some of you there, either as punters or working as volunteers. We still need more volunteers for the Eden Festival also, which is on us quite soon (7 to 10 June), and specifically I need people to help me in the bar. For that one can you contact me initially through this blog’s contact button top right.

The existence of a counter-culture is as important to me in terms of personal motivation as clarity of intellectual critique of society, and can manifest in various ways. Music festivals have become very commercialised and anodyne; rip-off ones seem to multiply while festivals with an “alternative” vibe have been struggling to survive, a struggle in which I have actively immersed myself and my resources, such as they are.

But whether it is as one of the 90,000 people who marched through Glasgow lately, whether it was addressing “Occupy London” or several university sit-ins, or being part of the community at music festivals, the happiest and most intense experiences of my life, outside personal family moments, have come from occasions where I am temporarily part of a group of people acting outside normal governing political structures, even for short periods, and often openly in defiance of them, in self governing “pop-up communities”. It feels like a glimpse into another possible world, a society of horizontal solidarity where we do not exist to be exploited. It is the fun of escape, the aspiration of alternative, the realisation that freedom is plausible. If I did not feel like that occasionally, I would not be able to think like that, all the time.

Thanks, but I didn’t doubt you. I meant you should link it where you asserted it, to support the assertion for all readers.

Even though we live in Cornwall, my wife and I will actually be on hols in Scotland during the festival, but we’re too far away to go, unfortunately. Hope everyone has a great time.

Alas gone are the days when a Secretary of State in HMG had gravitas. He was so out of his depth, if he ever had any. He was obviously trying hard to apply a technique he has recently been taught but was so amateurish he couldn’t remember his words in the right sequence. Incidentally the backdrop was to remind us that the British Army under his leadership is best suited to save the African elephant than in indulging in big power politics.

‘How the “Progressives” in the Black Caucus Have Shrunk to Almost Nothing’:
    https://blackagendareport.com/how-progressives-black-caucus-have-shrunk-almost-nothing

This website really hits the nail on the head on a great number of occasions.
‘“The Democratic Party is a people-suppression mechanism.”

The “Russiagate” hysteria is only the latest reason to conclude that the Democratic Party is the greatest institutional impediment to creation of mass “resistance” to onrushing war and never-ending austerity under late-stage capitalism. Last week’s vote on the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2019 showed, by the numbers, that any legislative “resistance”depends, not on Democratic victory in November of this year, or in 2020, or the cycle after that, but on the formation of an entirely new party. Only 59 Democrats voted against the $717 billion Pentagon spending bill, whose passage guarantees, not only more war, but new waves of privatization and a painful spiral of doom for what’s left of the social safety net in the United States—an ultimate outcome that is fully understood by the perpetrators on both sides of the corporate duopoly.

“It is the Democrats that are to blame for the strangulation of the majority’s aspirations for a more just, equal, and peaceful society.”

The lopsided vote reveals that there really is no “left wing” of the Democratic Party, just a tiny, ill-defined faction that can be brushed aside even on “bright line” issues of war and peace, guns or butter, and social justice versus police repression. Since it is the Democratic half of the duopoly that claims the allegiance of the vast demographic consisting of virtually allthe components of a “progressive” social base in the U.S. — components representing large majorities of the American people and the near-totality of the Black population — it is the Democrats that are to blame for the strangulation of the majority’s aspirations for a more just, equal, and peaceful society. Republican gerrymandering of legislative districts concentratesDemocrat-leaning voters, but it is the Democratic Party that turns these voters’ progressive notions into mush and dust. Donald Trump didn’t make the Democrats betray the solid progressive majority of their constituents; Nancy Pelosi did, on behalf of the party’s masters on Wall Street. No rescue of “the people” is conceivable under budgets burdened with such military outlays, yet there is only token “resistance” to military spending from the Democrats, and even those that voted against the authorization still scream for war against the Russians, daily….’

‘…“On the other ‘bright line’ issues of police repression and militarization of local police, the Black Caucus’ voting record is damnable….”

‘…This is not a generational issue. The thoroughly corporate nature of the Democratic Party is the reason that only three Black Caucus members are minimally worthy of the term “progressive” (and, of course, if slavish support for Israel is made a “bright line” issue, then none of the Caucus qualifies.)

The Democratic Party grossly distorts, mangles the political aspirations and sentiments of all the Americans it purports to represent, but especially Black people, who are effectively stripped of any real say in government by the only corporate party the duopoly provides for them.

Anybody that thinks they can transform such a party from the inside-out, is thinking very badly – or a Democrat trying to fool you.’

The US needs the Greens: tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber Repugnants/Demoprats are two sides of the same NWO One World Gulag plan.
The PTB have attained their goal – controlling all the levers of power. Like the deceased (RIP) Michael Ruppert’s website name, we are voices crying in the wilderness.

It would ( or should) be logical that the natural response to the oppression by Israel against the Palestinian people has a resounding base of support from the Black political class in America.
Take Cynthia McKinney as an example. Five times elected to be the Democratic representative from Georgia. Very strongly pro-Palestinian.
AIPAC tries to bribe her; and fails.
      What next?
Change the boundary lines of her district and ensure that a majority of Conservative Whites keeps her permanently out of Congress and thus silences her staunch support against oppression.

But – on a wider point – isn’t the whole US Congress bought and paid for by vested interests ( the WAR MACHINE – arms manufacturers –
the pharmaceutical industry – AIPAC – and money, money, money dictating what is in the ‘national interest’ and what remains untouchable and/or in Congress – unspeakable – all bought and paid for). In the main and in the majority – for that is the politics as it is; not how progressives might want it to be.

      • Sharp Ears

Cynthia was on board the MV Dignity with 15 others, heading for Gaza, when it was rammed thrice by an Israeli Navy ship in the

Several members of Labour Friends of Israel, including the chair Joan Ryan and the ever present Louise Ellman, are visiting Israel at the moment. There has been much criticism about the visit in the light of the recent IDF killings and injuries of Gaza protesters. See the tweets on the link.

‘From just under 100 supporters and select officers, only 7 Labour members of LFI made the trip to Israel. They include MPs Andrew Gwynne, Labour’s National Co-ordinator, LFI chair Joan Ryan, who was the subject of an Al-Jazeera undercover investigation into links between Israeli diplomats and the LFI, as well as MPs Sharon Hodgson, Louise Ellman and Jonathan Reynolds.

The LFI came under fire for declaring that “Hamas must accept responsibility” for scores of Palestinians being killed in mid May, during demonstrations to mark 70 years since Nakba “the catastrophe”.’

Interesting that some Russians are demonized but the rich Russian oligarchs who have ripped off the Russian people are courted by May plus those of other nationalities included here.

The oligarchs who fund the Tory project revealed
Wife of former Putin protégé hands over £100K to the party
    May 30, 2018

THE TORIES have “serious questions to answer” over lavish donations to the party by the wife of a former Putin associate, Labour said today.

The Conservatives received £4.7 million in donations in the first three months of 2018, more than three times the £1.49m pulled in by Labour between January 1 and March 31, data from the Electoral Commission has revealed.

But £100,000 of the Tories’ total came from Lubov Chernukhin, whose husband Vladimir was Russia’s deputy finance minister during Vladimir Putin’s first term as president, before settling in London in 2006.

Ms Chernukhin has now donated over £620,000 to the Tories since June 2012, including a payment of £160,000 in July 2014 to play tennis with Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and £30,000 this February to have dinner with Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson.

She also tried to donate £10,000 to the party in April 2012, but was deemed an “impermissible donor” by the Electoral Commission.

Shadow Cabinet Office minister John Trickett called on Theresa May to “explain what checks have taken place, and why her party has accepted money from individuals with links to Putin’s regime, despite her promises.”

He said: “Russia-related donations to the Tory Party is the gift that keeps on giving, but there are serious questions to ask.

“Despite repeated promises that the Prime Minister doesn’t want ‘business as usual’ with Russia, the Conservatives have accepted another £100,000 from the wife of a former minister in Putin’s government.”

He added that, after Mr Johnson was “forced to admit” playing tennis with Ms Chernukhin in the aftermath of the alleged attack on former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in March, the Foreign Secretary had “promised that checks on such donations would take place.”

A Tory spokesman told the Star: “All donations to the Conservative
Party are properly and transparently declared to the Electoral Commission, published by them and comply fully with the law.”

The Tories also accepted £500,000 from Mayfair art gallery director Ehud Sheleg, who has contributed more than £1m to the party in the last year and is tipped to be its next treasurer.

Former Tory co-treasurer Peter Cruddas, who was forced to resign in 2012 after being caught in an undercover sting offering access to prime minister David Cameron for up to £250,000, also gave £114,500 to the Conservatives.

The party also received £12,500 from Crescent Petroleum chief executive Abdul-Majid Jafar, who has donated just under £400,000 to the Tories in the last eight years, and £21,000 from Amjad Bseisu, the boss of oil exploration company EnQuest, who has given £320,000 in the last five years.

Long-standing donor Alexander Temerko — who has given the Tories and their MPs more than £650,000 in the past eight years — contributed £53,000, and former Vitol chief executive Ian Taylor donated £50,000, meaning he has given more than £1.3m in seven years.

Ms May’s party has received more than £500,000 from senior oil executives since she took power in July 2016.

Meanwhile, Broadland Properties, chaired by Yorkshire-based property mogul John Guthrie — said to be worth £281m — coughed up £50,000 and billionaire businessman Michael Hintze threw in £5,000.

The Electoral Commission said the total reported to it by all parties amounted to £6.9m, £2.4m lower than donations accepted in the same period in 2017, despite the reporting period ending just weeks before the May 3 local elections in England, and last year’s period preceding the April announcement of the snap general election.’

    One FAO Nadira here.

Israel and Myanmar have signed a pact to edit each other’s textbooks.
That’s a good way to revise history? Aung San Suu Kyi should return her Nobel prize.

Israel, Myanmar Sign Education Pact for Programs About ‘Holocaust and Its Lessons’ and Xenophobia
Accord with country accused of ethnic cleansing will allow each side to edit how it is depicted in the other’s textbooks
    https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/.premium-israel-myanmar-sign-pact-for-programs-about-holocaust-and-its-lesson-1.6132770

‘The almost 50 years of rule by the military dictatorship in Myanmar, historically known as Burma, ostensibly ended in 2011. In the 2015 election, that regime was replaced by the party of Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. But in recent years the United Nations has accused the country of committing ethnic cleansing against its Rohingya Muslim minority and hundreds of thousands of Rohingya survivors are still considered to be refugees.

The attacks by Myanmar’s security forces on the Rohingya have been described as an example of “textbook ethnic cleansing” by UN groups. Human rights organizations reported in August 2017 that the army conducted mass executions without trial of Rohingya, along with sexual violence against the group and burned down villages. Some 400,000 Rohingya refugees fled to neighboring Bangladesh and many others are trapped along the border between the two countries. The refugees have testified about acts of systematic murder and rape by the Myanmar military, which the government denies.

Over the years, relations between Israel and Myanmar have included military ties, which continued even during the period of the European Union’s arms embargo on Myanmar as well as U.S. sanctions against the sale of weapons to the country. Some of the sanctions based on human rights violations were lifted in recent years after the end of the military dictatorship, but the ban on the sale of weapons to the country remained in place. In October 2017, Haaretz reported that Israel sold advanced weaponry to Myanmar even during the period it was accused of conducting ethnic cleansing.’

Reading on, you learn that Israel has been supplying weapons to Myanmar.

The muslim hate is what unites Israel and Myanmar, and yes, the state sanctioned terrorism of course.
Aung Si Kyu seems like a psychopath but the western media and politicians still seems to cheer this warcriminal.

      • Loony

Ah yes Aung San Suu Kyi the war criminal. Why it seems only yesterday that she was being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize of her non violent struggle for democracy and human rights. I seem to recall all kinds of stories bemoaning the cruelty of the Burmese regime which prevented the saintly lady from visiting with her dying husband. …and now in true Orwellian style she has morphed effortlessly into a war criminal.

Perhaps you would be kind enough to let me know how the “Muslim hate that unites Israel and Myanmar” differs materially from Russian problems with Muslim Chechens or Chinese policy toward Muslim Uyghurs. Oh how I wonder why Sudan split itself into 2 countries – what could possibly be the reasons behind that decision?

Has Saudi Arabia killed more Muslims in Yemen and Syria that Aung San Suu Kyi has killed in Burma? Can this be explained by a Saudi Arabian hatred of Muslims?

        • Jack

          Looney

Russia is a multireligious state, muslims are represtented and part of the russian society.
And chinese racism is nowhere near this genocide enging regime of Myanmar.

Why do you want to shift the attention?
Aung and her regime kills muslims because they are muslims.

        • Courtenay Barnett

          You ask:-

“Why it seems only yesterday that she was being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize of her non violent struggle for democracy and human rights.”

Well – if both Dr. Martin Luther King and Henry Kissinger get the Nobel Peace Prize – why not her and posthumously even Adolph Hitler, based on the logic ( lack there of) and manifest inconsistency in the grating of this otherwise “noble” prize.

      • Laguerre

“The muslim hate is what unites Israel and Myanmar,”

That’s thought to be unclear English these days, when what you really mean is “hatred of Musllims by Israel and Myanmar.” It’s grammatically correct, but people might misuderstand you, and think you mean the opposite, which is self-evidently not true.

      JMF.

Thank you for the link, again, as in the Skirpal event, which is fast becoming a very British fiasco. Malaysia claims that there’s no conclusive evidence that Russia is the guilty party.

Why would Malaysia suddenly cast doubt on investigations claim, that Russia is culpable?

Could Malaysia be hoping for some sort of trade benefits or deal to further comply? Or could Malaysia be telling the truth? Or could Putin have gotten to the Malaysian investigators and offered some sort of financial incentive?

The ex-dead journo in Kiev is stirring up all sorts of problems!

BBC monitoring helpfully translated on the wireless just now that “I made holes in my shirt, poured a lot of real [porcine] red blood over myself, including some in my mouth – to spit out, then played dead until very much later when I got to the morgue – where it was very difficult to wash all the blood away” Bravo , what a performance!

So, if he fooled even the closest bystanders, including his wife, and the paramedics/ambulance staff, for hours: HOW CAN WE BELIEVE ANY SENSITIVE INCIDENT? Have the matrix-of-spook-organisations-(junior-branch) just compromised the entire concept of “beyond reasonable doubt”?

Generally, prosecutors bear the burden of proof and are required to prove their version of events to this standard. This means that the proposition being presented by the prosecution must be proven to the extent that there could be no “reasonable doubt” in the mind of a “reasonable person” that the event actually occurred.

My reasonably small brain is now filled with many reasonable doubts about many events!

“Muslim hate that unites Israel and Myanmar”

Israel’s international diplomacy is opportunist. There is no significant Muslim community or threat in Papua New Guinea. The corrupt O’Neill Govt is cracking down on blogs and social media, it’s harder to pull this stuff from the net than it was last year.

‘But it is in the area of national security that LR Group is making its biggest push. Dr Weiss is not only Israel’s Consul-General in PNG, Prime Ministerial and central bank advisor, OTML Board Member and father of LR Group’s Ilan Weiss – he is himself a former Israeli military officer. And LR Group was set up and is run by three former Israeli air force officers, Roy Ben-Yami, Eytan Stibbe and Ami Lustig. It is believed that the group is trying to extend its tentacles into PNG’s national intelligence system, including the Defence Force, the police and the National Intelligence Organisation. through the lobbying of Dr Weiss. Recently 15 soldiers and policemen and NIO officials went to Israel for specialist training, departing PNG under Mr Weiss’ watchful eyes. Prominent among them was the head of NIO, former chief police commissioner Garry Baki.’

‘Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, his personal adviser Dr Jakob Weiss, Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari and Police Commissioner Gari Baki are involved in a secret plot with LR Group of Israel to create a private intelligence agency and secret paramilitary spy force in Papua Guinea. The four have already handed over some of the nation’s most secret intelligence information to LR Group, which is headed in Papua New Guinea by Weiss’s son Ilan. This includes top-secret internal National Intelligence Organization documents and the methodology whereby all PNG security intelligence operations cooperate and coordinate activities and information. These organisations include NIO, the Defence Force, the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, Customs, and National Fisheries. The infiltration of the NIO by LR Group means that all of PNG’s security intelligence networks have been compromised.Oversight and control of the network is now in the hands of LR Group’

This is the new Transport Minister, not new FM, who hasn’t yet been appointed. Malaysia is trying to avoid responsibility and compensation to victims for the loss of MH370, and has cancelled further searches. Could be that Loke is using using MH17 to extract financial promises from interested parties in regard to future MH370 compensation claims.

Should we wish to speculate farther away from Occam’s Razor, perhaps Russia has information on MH370 that Malaysia doesn’t want publicised.

In any case, watch for confirmation from Mahatir if Loke’s statement was approved by Cabinet.

An stunning and wonderful sentiment the embraces hope and optimism from Craig – here it is again:

It feels like a glimpse into another possible world, a society of horizontal solidarity where we do not exist to be exploited. It is the fun of escape, the aspiration of alternative, the realisation that freedom is plausible. If I did not feel like that occasionally, I would not be able to think like that, all the time.
