Police Abuse in Norfolk 134

I am very worried by the report of a heavy handed police raid on Tallbloke, a blogger in Norfolk. According to this account, he was raided due to a link to leaked documents posted in a comments thread. We have become far too blase about the rapid erosion of civil liberties in this country. Norfolk is not devoid of serious crimes which these six detectives should be better employed in investigating.

I had not heard of Tallbloke and know nothing beyond the report to which I have linked. His blog discusses climate change at scientific levels well above my understanding, but scarcely seems a subject for the police. I do not share Tallboy’s views – in particular, I think man-made climate change is a fact we are not tackling with nearly sufficient seriousness. But whether or not I agree is irrelevant. What is important is the free speech issue. It is astonishing our media are criticising government handling of protest in Russia, when we have police raidng dissident bloggers in Norfolk which goes unnoticed.

    SORRY
….has been a crackdown by a local constabulary and the Met on a blogger in Norfolk at the behest of US authorties.
    .
My what long tentacles you have, Mr Obomber!

  • larry Levin

What about the european arrest warrant, we have lost habeas corpus in uk. I wrote something on a blog nothing offensive or rude, and was told by the person running the blog that “I was under a rock” You want to change things look in a mirror and make the change to yourself

  • Scouse Billy

Tallbloke’s a really good guy – saw through the faked “science” of global warming long before others.

As one commenataor suggests this might well be the post that got certain US “authorities” concerned:

    http://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2011/12/12/climategate-2-follow-the-money-to-see-who-calls-the-shots/

Reads a bit like “sexing up” the case for war – except here the intent is to terrorise the public into thinking we are heating up the planet and must immediately de-industrialise and wreck (sic) our economies.

  • Mark Golding - Children of Iraq

I’m not clear about this hacking of emails. Accessing a link to a hacked document is certainly not the same as receiving stolen goods. In the same context does a misleading link to a bogus web-page constitute a charge of fraud?

  • Scouse Billy

    Mark,
    .
There is no evidence of hacking (as opposed to “leaking”).
    .
It is just as likely an honest scientist appalled by the behaviour of the climate science “team” made them available.
    .
Remember the first batch of climategate e-mails had been scrupulously edited to avoid revealing personal information – a hacker wouldn’t take such care.

  • glenn

Scouse Billy: You see through this hoax of climate change too, eh? You realised that those decent folk in the petroleum industry, the car lobby, the carbon-producing corporations, are all on the side of angels, and have been terribly maligned by a powerful bunch of greens & hippies, who are faking everything to make Al Gore rich. Nice one – that’s really so very clever of you!

  • Scouse Billy

Glenn, yes I do and guess who funded the Climate Research Unit at the UEA?
The very people you rightly identify as no angels.
    .
    Tallbloke himself puts it succinctly:
    .
“Nick, in my opinion, any responsible chief scientist would be saying this in the report:
    .
    * The Earth’s climate systems are complex, poorly understood and cannot be reduced to bullet points.
    .
    * In theory, additional carbon dioxide causes the temperature of the lower atmosphere to rise.
    .
    * As yet we have no strong empirical evidence to show that the observed rise is so caused
    .
    * Potentially important factors are not included in climate models because they haven’t been investigated sufficiently to develop algorithms to integrate them yet.
    .
    * Long term cycles are evident in the paleo data, but we don’t know what causes them.
    .
    etc etc…”

For a good description of how climate science went from being mistaken to fraudulent, see:

Great to see you getting behind this Craig.

The left and right on the blogosphere need to support eachother on this kind of issue – indeed its something you are very familiar with being on the receiving end of yourself isn’t it? (As indeed was a friend of mine two years ago (http://i-squared.blogspot.com/2009/02/help-wanted-chilling-landmark-for-civil.html)

It’s a real shame that there has been a distinct left/right divide over wikileaks and climategate respectively.

As far as I can tell, we’re fighting the same battle.

  • Andrew Biggins

    Craig

You say you do not agree with Tallboy’s stance on man-made climate change but admit that the scientific discussion of the subject is “well above my understanding”.

As, like the vast majority of us, you do not understand the science behind global climate variations, how can you ever form an objective view? How did you come to the view that man made climate change is a fact?

So sad that in today’s corrupt society, you cannot trust anybody in authority to tell you the truth about anything, particularly when you suspect that their stance on an issue directly relates to how much money they can suck from honest, hard working folks.

  • Katabasis

Jo Nova has said something on this that might resonate with you Craig:

“Now, more than ever, all the people that value their freedom need to stick together. Whistleblowers and radio personalities need blogger back up, big bloggers need small bloggers, every blogger needs commenter and emailer support, with letters to editors and friends. Every link in the chain helps. The establishment need to know that we will not be intimidated, there are many of us, and the more they push, the more we will tell the world.”

  • Scouse Billy

    Katabasis,
    .
Steve McIntyre (Climate Audit)’s reaction is linked by Jo Nova:
    .
    http://climateaudit.org/2011/12/14/police-raid-on-tall-bloke/
    .
    Very interesting comments there, e.g.
    .
“I agree that the downside potential for the “team” is much greater than the upside potential, with that key floating around. This doesn’t seem very pragmatic; it seem like somebody is on a personal jihad. I won’t mention any names but he has the same initials as Mickey Mouse.”
    .
“As I mentioned previously, the next release will show the links with the IPCC and governments. They are getting nervous and desperate.”
    .
I think as Andrew Biggins alluded to, it’s tome for Craig and others to look more critically at the climate issue – after all why would the authorities being doing this if all was above board?

  • Mark Golding - Children of Iraq

Thanks Scouse Billy – I did not observe the first batch. I always thought climate change was earth’s orbit variations and variations in the sun’s output. Greenhouse gas logic is monopoly non-science (nonsense), a carbon permit conspiracy scheme to grab your money in grants and increased costs (for the sake of the planet) and make the bankers richer (or recoup their sub-prime losses).

  • Katabasis

    Scouse Billy

    – Cheers – I’d already read through that post and comments earlier.

I am very curious about what might be contained in the remaining emails. We’ve had only approximately 6k released in total (CG1 and 2) out of 200k.

FOIA did say though in the attached read me file that they had no intentions of releasing the key. I don’t believe that myself; I think – as so many others have also speculated – they were inspired by Wikileaks’ ‘insurance file’ tactic. The remaining emails account for the bulk of the file so why include them unless release was a possibility in the near future?

  • Jack

I don’t know enough about this particular affair to comment directly.
    .
What I can say, however, is that here in rural Southern Scotland – when it comes to lawlessness – the police aren’t part of the answer – they’re part of the problem.
    .
The law and the police are bought and paid for – pure and simple – and not by the tax-paying population.

  • Scouse Billy

Mark, totally agree – the thing that terrifies the Carbonistas is the role of clouds and in particular cloud formation via cosmic rays modulated by sunspot activity as postulated by Henrik Svensmark – see The Cloud Mystery:
    .
    http://www.redicecreations.com/article.php?id=11559
    .
A compelling documentary produced by Danish Television that is not above the level of non-scientists such as Craig.
    .
More to the point, a multi-disciplinary team at CERN headed by Jasper Kirkby set up the CLOUD project to determine experimentally if Svensmark’s theory had merit. The results are encouraging but the head of CERN virtually put a D Notice on the scientists – not to discuss the implications of their findings!!
    .
    http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/08/24/breaking-news-cern-experiment-confirms-cosmic-rays-influence-climate-change/
    .
    .
When the alarm about CO2 was first raised, I got interested because the paleo-climatic record indicates that Earth’s atmosphere had seen many fold higher concentrations of CO2 than today’s meagre ~390ppm yet temperatures were not necessarily higher and life was more abundant.

  • Scouse Billy

Mark, I have posted about CLOUD, Svensmark etc. but it appears to be held up in moderation (2 x urls).
    .
Regarding the conspiracy, it appears to be a Club of Rome initiative from the late 60’s but getting the right “scientists” on board seems to have taken place in 1975 at the Endangered Atmosphere Conference co-ordinated by Margaret Mead and Maurice Strong:

“What we need to invent, as responsible scientists, are ways in which farsightedness can become a habit of the citizenry of the diverse peoples of this planet. This, of course, poses a set of
technical problems for social scientists, but they are helpless without a highly articulate and responsible expression of position on the part of natural scientists.
    .
Only if natural scientists can develop ways of making their statements on the present state of danger credible to each other can we hope to make them credible (and understandable) to social scientists, politicians, and the citizenry.
    .
…I have asked a group of atmospheric specialists to meet here to consider how the very real threats to humankind and life on this planet can be stated with crediblity and persuasiveness before the present society of nations begins to enact laws of
the air, or plan for “international environmental impact statements.”
    .
Margaret Mead – Keynote Address to Endangered Atmosphere Conference. Research Triangle Park, NC. Oct. 26-29, 1975
    .
Hardly the scientific method as I was taught – rather, fit the “science” to the (eugenicist) policy!

  • Lucy Skywalker

    Craig
First time here but good stuff. Thank you for supporting the principle of freedom of speech – whatever you believe about the science. You need to know that all along with “Climate science”, debate has been stifled, seriously stifled, using four or more prongs

    (1) “the debate is over” (because, supposedly, a “consensus” of scientists has been reached – when it has not, and anyway, consensus is not how scientific breakthrough happens)

    (2) simply refusing to debate in public – this is well documented as Lord Monckton can attest

    (3) sheer muzzling, eg (a) CRU leaning on top science journals to publish pro-warmist and refuse or at least obstruct non-warmist papers (b) as seen at IPCC – read “The Delinquent Teenager Who Was Mistaken for the World’s Top Climate Expert” (c) muzzlers-at-large like William Connolley at Wikipedia and Bob Ward at the Royal Society and elsewhere

    (4) massive vilification of dissenters, to make them look as though they are beneath contempt and thus not even worth listening to.

  • mandas

“….. had not heard of Tallbloke and know nothing beyond the report to which I have linked. His blog discusses climate change at scientific levels well above my understanding…”

Ummmm, no. There is nothing on that website that is in anyway scientific. It is full of woo and discredited nonsense – such as his view that the General Theory of Relativity is wrong, his faith in the pseudo-scientific garbage he calls ‘Aerology’, his belief that climate is affected by the movement of the planets, and that the earth’s greenhouse system is ‘self-regulating’.

I have zero sympathy for him or his crap.

  • anno

At risk of abuse from all sides, may I remind people that Allah stw says in the Qur’an that He is completely in charge of all things, including climate and human beings.
Tallbloke recommends himself to me by his humility that we do not understand the processes of climate. Do we understand our own body temperature. how can fear make us feel cold and embarrassment hot. How come light can produce glare and darkness reveal the stars?
As to human psychology, at one conference I attended scientific psychologists were claiming to quantify diseases which are now covered by the all-pervading bi-polar label, while leading professionals had the humility to admit that they do not understand human psychology, let alone label human beings as if they were contents of jam jars.
I have certain psychological weaknesses which involve projecting unwanted e.g.sexual feelings onto others, but other bits of my mind are present to correct and repent to Allah.
Did the police object to Tallbloke’s humility? The powers that be most definitely object to unquantifiability in matters of the mind. I find it hard to believe that police would be called on to intimidate someone just for weakening the growth of renewable energy trade. But is is all connected. No global warming, no heatpumps, no wars in Africa to extract minerals, no excuse for invading Muslim countries, no politics, no expenses gravy train,
no work, no work ethic, no clothes.
I am arresting you Mr Tallbloke for encouraging lewd and immoral behaviour by stating that there is no man-made climate change.
It’s a fair cop, guv but I was wearing clothes. I’m not responsible for other people’s actions.
Ok we’ll let you off with a caution this time, but don’t go repeating your theories any more. there’s a lot of very unhappy people at the top of the Freemason Zionist Global New Order who’ve invested a lot of money in climate change.

  • Fedup

Yeah that is why “they” are sending six detectives to confiscate all of tallbloke’s computers, because of his pseudo science. The notions of paying more money for the same shit to atone for the guilt of use, akin to Catholics and their confessionals, apparently make good everything.
    ,
Fact that the bastards in the climatology are busy calculating air miles carbon tax for every passenger, without so much as hinting at the useless fucking fighter jets with after-burning engines flying around the world, dropping bombs and munitions which have not passed an MOT test or a “particulates” and carbon dioxide percentages content test. That is along with the whole array of tanks, ships helicopters and a whole gamut of vehicles, guns and explosives, in an ongoing fashion in currently ongoing nine major wars around the world, not mentioning the minor conflicts, and the constant firing range practices etc.
    ,
Evidently this is somehow always my fault for going to work on crowded trains, buses and auto-mobiles, and I need to pay even more for the privilege of being a wage slave, by paying more.
    ,
The simple fact that these weird notions of climate change (itself a fraudulent remark, seeing as climate is a constant and never changes! Then first we were told it is cooling, later it was warming, then it was cooling, now best just stick with change) have only the immobilisation of the pool of available labour in mind, as well as the extortions of more of our hard earned cash as “Carbon Taxes” to make good the damage we have inflicted on the “environment” by fucking breathing and generally being alive, talk about misanthropy.
    ,
All the while tallbloke is getting the shaft because he spoke up

  • glenn

They’re all after this ‘tallbloke’ fellow because he stood up, eh. Hmm. Uh huh. In the meantime, the climate change denial industry is really on the run – they’ve only got every last Republican on their side in the US, rewards out for anyone who can manage to publish a paper that disproves man-made climate change, to the point that most Americans now believe it’s a hoax (having pumped that message long and hard through every media outlet for years). They really are the collective “little guy” – just shy and retiring oil, car, coal, air and sundry fossil-fuel businesses, who are interested in nothing but the truth.
    .
I’m _really_ surprised at the usually good people here who are falling for this ‘climate sceptic’ crap, who’ve jumped into bed with Saudi princes who are delighted, sorry, very concerned at some leaked emails from East Anglia uni or whatever, that shows without doubt that the entire thing is a massive hoax!
    .
Look, just because governments are starting to believe it and wake up, and just because some people are seeing how they can make a buck off it, is not definitive proof of the entire thing being bogus. Don’t forget how long it was convenient to ignore anything that didn’t bring immediate benefits, it didn’t start as some damned gov’t conspiracy.
    .
It’s quite incredible to me that you “sceptics” are willing to toss aside the vast consensus of peer reviewed science in favour of some damned-fool conspiracy nonsense, bolstered by some weak anecdotes and the waving away of clear evidence, which just happens to coincide with the interests of the most powerful and wealthy corporations and their lackeys. Remember the “sceptics” that insisted smoking tobacco had nothing to do with disease? No, there’s some scientists (here, take this money!) that say otherwise. We need to wait for more evidence. On, and on. Exactly the same playbook here – and otherwise intelligent people are sucking it up?
    .
Christ, I’d rather not believe that climate change is real either! But what’s the worst that could happen if it’s true? And what’s the worst that could happen if it _isn’t_ true, but we act as if it is? What about the precautionary principle, even if you’re seriously doubting an overwhelming scientific consensus! What’s the matter with you lot?

  • Scouse Billy

Glenn, CO2 levels have been many fold higher according to the paleo-climatic record. The Earth didn’t fry – life was more abundant than now. CO2 is not a problem but a trace gas essential for like to exist.
    .
Increasing temperature leads to increased CO2 NOT the other way round. It’s a very basic error but then the IPCC authors committed stastical fraud. In AR4 they “adjusted” real world empirical data to match their computer models’ climate sensitivity to CO2.

Thing about free speech is that even if the guy is spouting bullshit, it’s better to let him say it, take a look at what he’s saying, talk about it, judge for ourselves. Trying to supress him only gives him more credibility – if it wasn’t for the police action most of us here would never have heard of him. Of course it’s been said before – you don’t have to defend what he’s saying but you have to defend his right to say it.
    .
Katabasis – you are exactly right and Craig has mentioned this before. Lovers of freedom on the left and the right need to come together on some of these issues.
