The mainstream media for the most part has moved on. But there are a few more gleanings to be had, of perhaps the most interesting comes from the Daily Mirror, which labels al-Hilli an extremist on the grounds that he was against the war in Iraq, disapproved of the behaviour of Israel and had doubts over 9/11 – which makes a great deal of the population “extremist”. But the Mirror has the only mainstream mention I can find of the possibility that Mossad carried out the killings. Given Mr al-Hilli’s profession, the fact he is a Shia, the fact he had visited Iran, and the fact that Israel heas been assassinating scientists connected to Iran’s nuclear programme, this has to be a possibility. There are of course other possibilities, but to ignore that one is ludicrous.
Which leads me to the argument of Daily Mail crime reporter, Stephen Wright, that the French police should concentrate on the idea that this was a killing by a random Alpine madman or racist bigot. Perfectly possible, of course, and the anti-Muslim killings in Marseille might be as much a precedent as Mossad killings of scientists. But why the lone madman idea should be the preferred investigation, Mr Wright does not explain. What I did find interesting from a man who has visited many crime scenes are his repeated insinuations that the French authorities are not really trying very hard to find who the killers were, for example:
the crime scene would have been sealed off for a minimum of seven to ten days, to allow detailed forensic searches for DNA, fibres, tyre marks and shoe prints to take place.
Nearby bushes and vegetation would have been searched for any discarded food and cigarette butts left by the killer, not to mention the murder weapon.
But from what I saw at the end of last week, no such searches had taken place and potentially vital evidence could have been missed. House to house inquiries in the local area had yet to be completed and police had not made specific public appeals for information about the crime. No reward had been put up for information about the shootings.
Behind the scenes, what other short cuts have been taken? Have police seized data identifying all mobile phones being used in the vicinity of the murders that day?
The idea that the French authorities – who are quite as capable as any other of solving cases – are not really trying very hard is an interesting one.
Which leads me to this part of a remarkable article from the Daily Telegraph, which if true points us back towards a hit squad and discounts the ides that there was only one gun:
Claims that only one gun was used to kill everybody is likely to be disproved by full ballistics test results which are out in October.
While the 25 spent bullet cartridges found at the scene are all of the same kind, they could in fact have come from a number of weapons of the same make.
This throws up the possibility of a well-equipped, highly-trained gang circling the car and then opening fire.
Both children were left alive by the killers, who had clinically pumped bullets into everybody else, including five into Mr Mollier.
Zainab was found staggering around outside the car by Brett Martin, a British former RAF serviceman who cycled by moments after the attack, but he saw nobody except the schoolgirl.
Her sister, Zeena, was found unscathed and hiding in the car eight hours later.
Both sisters are now back in Britain, and are believed to have been reunited at a secret location near London.
There are of course a number of hit squad options, both governmental and private, which might well involve iraqi or Iranian interests – on both of which the mainstream media have been very happy to speculate while almost unanimously ignoring Israel.
But what interests me is why the Daily Telegraph choose, in the face of all the evidence, to minimise the horrific nature of the attack by stating that “Both children were left alive by the killers”? Zainab was not left alive by design, she was shot in the chest and her skull was stove in, which presumably was a pretty serious attempt to kill a seven year-old child. The other girl might very well have succeeded in hiding from the killers under her mother’s skirts, as she hid from the first rescuers, and then for eight hours from the police.
The Telegraph article claims to be informed by sources close to the investigation. So they believe it was a group of people, and feel motivated to absolve those people from child-killing. Now what could the Daily Telegraph be thinking?

Re terms. For this “case” we can call “point blank” to mean point blank. And “distance” to mean anywhere from and beyond about 15 to 20 feet.
The reason is simply. It is an attack using a pistol, which is a “close combat” weapon when used at close range….
When used “further away” the “attack” capability is reduced (less accurate). An “assassin” would use such a weapon at close range, therefore questions arise when it is used at a “distance”.
So…there is no “Judgement” on that case, the charges were “dropped”.
Not in “the public interest” due (I gather) to the small amount that was “taken” 300 GBP and an attempt at 2000 GBP.

17 Jul, 2013 – 5:10 am. There is no way a minor alleged criminal could run rings around the British Justice System without the connivance of the Government. This is confirmed by them wheeling out a pathetic excuse of “not in the public interest” and “it wasn’t for very much anyway”!
It also confirms beyond peradventure, that there is something BIG that the authorities are desperate to cover up. “Big” because it trumps any police enquiry or prosecution process. No doubt it was hoped a long delay (where else have we seen that?) followed by withdrawal would sap any interest in the announcement. Throw in “a waste of taxpayers’ money” and “he’s going to expelled anyway” to wrap it up and it may just work. We shall have to see.
So we on here at least might pose: “Will our cowed and compliant national media pursue the question?” “Will there be questions of the Crown Prosecution Service and Police, as to whether they have been subject to pressure from any quarter to drop the case?” “Will there be questions in Parliament of the Home Secretary or Justice Secretary?” And how about questions to our ostensibly “open and transparent” MI5 and MI6?
So the question remains, what could be so important at Chevaline to warrant such drastic action, that vindicates the views of many of us from the beginning? No doubt MZT will contort to explain it away as just another normal legal procedure. Indeed we can be sure someone was tasked months ago to work up a strategy and plausible excuse.
Secondary questions as to the deed itself, remain unanswered. Who is “Abiodun John” and what is his background? What relationship if any, did he have to the Al Hillis or others involved in this story? How did he become aware of the account in question and have access to its secure details? (Apparently he was partially successful as Richard Elliott told the court “ There is not actually much money in this – about £300, with an attempt on another £2,000”) Is the Al Hilli family content with the way this has been handled?
Was his action in any way connected to the deaths at Chevaline or to the Swiss bank account? Which account did he manage to access? Could the account in question have itself been embarrassing to the Government? If completely unrelated, why is it so important to prevent the issues being aired in public?
Now let’s see if our courageous free press will pick up the challenge or not. What ever happens, this is yet another extraordinary element to an already extraordinary tale.

It could be another not-too-subtle message to the French along the lines of: “It may have happened in France, but these are ours, and after your dirty trick, no way are you going anywhere near them without our say-so.”
My bet is on the fact that in line with the last ten months, the British are keeping a firm lid on this. No significant information revealed unless it is useful to some SIS agenda.
The way I read it both France and Britain want to maintain water tight secrecy but for different reasons and by different means. In the case of France by making a mess of the investigation, misinterpreting the evidence, keep changing the story line and getting no where fast.
In the case of Britain it is to stay mum and use “supporting role” as excuse. Say nothing about the mountains of information at their disposal. No photographs, no appeals for witness or potential suspects. Nothing stolen from the victims that might lead to discovery. No biography or explanation of Suhaila’s visit or her son’s removal to hospital. And of course no word or explanation about the segregation of the little girls.
I believe this reflects a British operation and French complicity.

If a child was kidnapped from a rich family and a large ransom demanded, but the family were refusing to hand over the money(or valuable information) the kidnappers would contact the family and let them hear the pleas of the poor child to strengthen their position and make the handover more likely.

My story differs a bit from that of other poor Norwegian children, though. My liberation from kindergarten came sooner, when my father was hired to work for Saddam Hussein in Iraq in 1979. He was one of those engineers who helped build Iraq in the years after Saddam Hussein had become president. The English school in Baghdad was full, so when I was 6 years old I was sent to ordinary Iraqi public school. Iraq was a bad experience in so many ways; my brother and I had to fight off attackers several times, in school and in the streets, we barely escaped rabies infected packs of dogs chasing us in the streets, we once had to run for our lives from a drunk killer, who was still wielding the axe he had used when he killed his wife (he was later shot dead by Iraqi police in the streets), we almost died from food poisoning and so forth. I can add that I also saved the life of an Englishman there, who had drowned in a pool (and he was rescued and resuscitated because to me). I think my parents were extremely irresponsible for taking their family to live in Iraq, but I guess they didn’t have the opportunity to know any better like we do today (we can just google it). However, at least I was able to see more of reality than I was in Norway. Reality had in Norway been replaced by some sort of “Social Democratic reality-substitute”, where everything is perfect, and where the mighty Norwegian state takes care of everything. Tim V First I wanted to remember to thank you for that July 11 3:31PM post, which recounted the challenges of getting from 3:15PM smiling photo to 3:30PM all dead yet again. I know you went through this before, but it’s probably necessary to repeat the reasoning periodically since it is so hard to search on this site. I copied it down this time, in the hope that i won’t have to ask again.
With regard to your Jul 11 11:57PM comment on the posterior/anterior shots – was there not a claim made somewhere, sometime that the victims may have [also] been shot from the back? may be because all the photos show the boot door open. I am not sure whether there was a conclusion to that effect and/or whether WBM said anything in his testimony about the back car door. In any case, the only way it can be explained that at least two of the bodies could not be identified is if they were shot from the back of the head. In which case there is still contradiction with the PB’s “2 Euro” hole(s). I am basically looking to settle at least this issue as to (1) is there any explanation for why ID was impossible, and (2) was there ever a consensus as to the timing of when the boot car door was raised, or is that another item that has to be written down as an “unknown”, and (3) do we agree that that the disfigured faces and the 2-Euro hole(s) are in contradiction, or is there some way around that?
On “Nigerian John”: – clearly the dropping of the charges for an egregious “hack” right after a sensational murder case, screams cover-up. He is being “let go” so that the case does not come to trial where uncomfortable facts about the deceased Saad – and family – may come to light. Perhaps he was a patsy all along, used by others for his Nigerian “hacking” skills to get at some information somewhere. or may be he was used by an agency somewhere that did not wish to leave fingerprints as part of a discovery process – for example as to whether there has been any activity with those accounts, indicating that someone who should have been dead, wasn’t.
I agree with your comment above Tim V and in tandem with your july 14 3:06PM comment, that we may well be seeing another move by the British side, designed to frustrate any attempt at “progress” or “diversion” by the French. This does seem to speak of a british operation, originally, possibly a sting of some sorts, that has been countered by another agency. One that has great influence over the french. It is conceivable that SM was part of the “sting” and therefore “operated’ by the British side that set up the meeting in the first place. May be the promise was to ‘disappear” the parties which was the ruse for attracting them all to the martinet, sending WBM to check on thing as they unfold 9as was suggested by you Tim V). But this is where the narratives diverge into three possibilities:
(1) the extraction/rendition proceeded as planned, more or less. in which case everything we see and hear are part of the smoke and mirrors, meant to deflect attention from what was into what might have been. This narrative has the one issue with the children, as discussed before, to which I don’t have a fully satisfactory answer. Also, tit brings up the question of why go to all the trouble and who exactly was the party from which the truth must remain hidden. No answer there, alas.
(2) the parties were indeed killed as told, but it was not the result intended by all the parties involved. IOW, there was a double-cross and the crossed party was the british side, whose ‘sting” was blown up sky high.In this scenario, WBM is indeed surprised by the outcome, and PD/PS +companions are part of the “clean-up team sent by the French, but on behalf of the third party (the “killers”). Again, we do not have a good idea what the motivation for the killings was and why such a deep, cross-channel cover-up. In this scenario, the children are indeed protected with extreme measures because the parties from which such protection is needed are very powerful, possibly politically.
(3) Combination scenario – perhaps some were killed but some were extracted/rendered. This fits with Straw44berry’s speculation that the children are being “used’ to extract information, hence their seemingly ill treatment. It’s hard to contemplate this but children used as part of a blackmail is a scenario that can’t be excluded.
Nigerian John fits unfortunately all three scenarios, though in different ways. But the upshot remains that letting him go, just like arresting Zaid and letting HIM go ARE BRITISH MOVES aiming to undermine whatever it is the french are trying to come up with.
I don’t of course know what the motivations are. But am willing to hazard a guess that whatever the French are doing (possibly without EM’s full knowledge) is done on behalf or under pressure by someone else. There is always that third agency in the background, one that has to be placated without letting on of its involvement, or else. there is simply no other way to explain the unbelievable incoherence and helter-skelter quality of the French “investigation”.
So whatever theory I see, be it BB’s or Max’s or Qui’s or any one of Tim V’s (who offered several, no?), or Straw44berry’s has to at least fit these three geopolitical parameters:
1. Both French and English involvement but at cross purposes
2. At least one additional agency that must remain in the background, yet is powerful enough to require a cover-up, even one that’s full of holes and is highly embarrassing to both french and Brits.
3. That third agency (which could be a combination of two) has more pull over the French than the Brits. Both politically and intelligence-wise.
If anyone sees any way around these 3 parameters, mostly based on POST-Chevaline behavior, please share your reasonings? I’d certainly appreciate any and all critiques of my logic lines…

18 Jul, 2013 – 7:21 am as always interesting and relevant questions. I raised questions about that rear door almost at the beginning. What can we conclude about it from the pictures? Well first and obviously that it was open despite the car doors being locked apparently. So it is unlikely the attackers opened it as it would have involved unlocking and locking again as car has “central locking”. If window was smashed by WBM to get the keys we must assume the killers didn’t. So only two options present themselves:
1. SAH reversed with the boot door already open. This is not so stupid as it seems. Parked up he might have well opened the tail gate and left it open for access and ventilation. Rushing back to the car under attack there wouldn’t have been time to close it first. If open it obviously allows shots through there though with a reversing car and close proximity to the woods I doubt it would have been a practical option. Further the smashed rear near side toughened glass window rather suggests the fatal shots to rear passengers came through there.
2. The door was opened subsequently by police at the same time the driver’s and other doors must have been opened to remove the bodies of the victims. Presumably this was not before about midnight when little Zeena was discovered we are told. Of course the tailgate may have been opened and closed more frequently between then and when the air photos were taken between body and vehicle removals i.e. late morning of the sixth I would guess.
As to your point about non-identification that is a tricky one as the story has changed so much and even the prosecutor appears to have little faith in the lab results. Was Zainab “covered in blood” or wasn’t she? Why did EM specifically claim a girl was dead and only “three out of the four were shot in the head? Why the specific reference to the “two Euro bullet hole” if it was a 7.65 bullet? Why the variation of bullet wounds? “Double tap” or not and how to explain the report of bullet in the forehead? Normally it would be to the temple area but I suppose if the victim was facing the shooter as might be expected, a frontal shot might be likely.
The thing is we have four victims but no one states clearly what descriptions relate to whom. So it may be that apparent contradictions result from different people being described. I assume if people inside the car were shot from outside, the wounds would be determined by their posture and direction of gaze in addition to those of the shooter. Only the police have this information via the pathologist and they arn’t telling. We can only surmise.
Oh one other point I meant to make though not for the first time: the light of the absence of bullet damage to the rear door in contrast to the front windscreen, certain conclusions may be drawn.

I have also gone over all kind of scenarios with regard to the children since so much, from the very beginning did not add up. We have listed several times over the seemingly endless contradictions and recasts concerning them. From Zainab “dead” to shot and pistol whipped, to miraculously recovering in less than a week, to Zeena “found” after 8 hours.
And now, to being held in what seems like protective custody, more than 10 months after, with only the most limited interaction allowed with the family.
Way back when, I suggested that it was a priority for the british take custody of the girls and got them back to England, and that they did so as soon as they could oto get them away from the french – and of course, from whichever that ‘third agency” is that appears to have too much sway over the French. The timing between W@BM testimony and Zainab returning to the UK is interesting too and fit well with my theory of inter-agency gamesmanship.
Yes, in the extraction/rendition theory some possibilities open up that could explain the mysterious goings on, like the late/belated discovery of Zeena and Zainab going from “dead” to “wounded” in the space of a few hours. One of the possibilities is that Zeena was first taken/kidnapped by whoever arranged the extraction, but then had to be returned, either due to threats or because something went awry with the plan. hence she “materializes” alive and well 8 hours later. Similarly with Zainab, who was perhaps “supposed’ to have been killed but then had to be “resurrected”.
People will say that speaking of such possibilities is way too complicated. But I maintain that things are WAY complicated no matter what took place at the martinet. And personally I prefer to keep options open at least until such time that one can be shown to be so improbable as to justify taking it off the table. The extraction/rendition scenario, though less probable than outright murder, has not met that bar, IMO.

Over at MZT Eugene has made a very interesting observation that I did not see addressed before, namely, the absence on the BMW of towing mirrors. They are continuing to discuss this, including all kind of possibilities, but i thought people here might be interested in addressing this issue as well.
My own immediate thoughts:
(1) sometimes when the authorities are obviously not keen to share the facts of the case, it may indeed profit us to look closely not just at what there is (say in the photos), but also at what there isn’t, yet should have been. The missing bike rack was an obvious observation, but what else can be gleamed that wasn’t yet referred to?
(2) In the extraction/rendition scenario, the BMW at the scene of the ‘crime’ would be a double, made to look as identical as possible to Saad’s original. It is possible that a few odds and ends were “forgotten” in the duplication procedure.

And not forgetting the Black metal-thing, churchfires and Nordic myth’s, which relates to the fact that there is churches in france and boybands playing Black metal. And perhapse Martinet is the center of Asgård, Valhalla.

I too have been interested in the lack of towing mirrors that Eugene raised and I have tried to decide which model of mirrors were used in their 2011 excursion photo with the tandem on the roof. If Saad has used them on previous trips I would be very surprised if the they werent fitted for the journey from England. The 2011 photo looks as though they had arrived that day with just the steps from the caravan, no tent or awning is attached.
However the stick on sunblinds are attached to the rear windows too.
And did the BMW have fitted a booster seat for Zainab and a car seat for Zeena. Or did they travel ‘in convoy’ with another family who were neighbours in Claygate just as they had done before.

I can find them talking about going to Spain and Annecy implying going with the Al-Hilli’s, but in one newspaper article they clearly said they travelled down together.
