Happy New Year 888

This is my last comment for the year as we are off to spend Hogmanay as the guests of an Ambassador in Paris. Out of deference to my family, who have had the brunt of it these last few days, I am definitely not taking the laptop, so I will no longer be able to take part in the popular new bloodsport of proving your loyalty to the SNP by being nasty to Craig Murray.

My parting thought is that, as every year of my entire life, it has been a disastrous one for the Palestinians. Yet more land occupied, settlements built, homes destroyed, olive trees uprooted, shipping vessels sunk and yet another murderous onslaught on Gaza.

I warmly recommend this rare public appearance by Col. Larry Wilkerson, ex-Chief of Staff to Colin Powell and a fellow recipient of the Sam Adams Award for Integrity. His brief musings here on Israel and Syria come from a deep store of knowledge and a razor-sharp intellect.

Do have a wonderful celebration. The future will be good. We are closer to a transformational change in society than you may realise.

“Ukraine is the result of western interference”

And you don’t think that there might just have been a little bit of Russian interference under Putin even before military operations started – e.g. rigging elections, poisoning political opponents, wholesale corruption, turning off the gas in February, interference in the press and media. Or was that all ok since Ukraine was really part of the Russian zone of influence?

David Irving was himself the party who brought suit. He was seeking to have Lipstadt punished for having called him a Holocaust denier. That is to say, he was seeking to limit free expression. And he lost his case.

That is very different from seeking to shut up people who are accused of Holocaust denial. Even if Holocaust denial, properly defined, is clearly false, people should be free to utter falsehoods. And since those who seek to limit discussion on these matters have defined Holocaust denial as broadly as they can get away with, they may even succeed in prohibiting statements that in fact are historically true.

Only if people are free to discuss historical matters can there be any hope of getting to historical truth. Free debate can be relied upon to discredit clear historical falsehoods.

Boring RD, John Goss’s red robin is ten times more interesting.

As Clark mentioned earlier on, its about sustainable living within our means, energy, ecology, agriculture and how people can adapt.

The market management techniques political parties have learned from the third Reich, you know the ones who fu…d everything up and then some more, same old same same’s, the defenders of the status quo who are keeping discord in power, those who say nothing to the incredulous increase in bus/train fares, .:)

will bite them in the bum, literally destroy their arses underneath them.
cause people had enough squid, enough divergences.

Grown up behaviour is not promoting holocaust denial – I linked to one website with other content of which I was not aware and I apologised. Puffing Billy has not even done that.

As for hypocrisy – I note how you are prepared to hound me for my small mistake, and yet you do nothing when others link to holocaust denial or racist websites.

There’s a tale about Bill Gates going to a casino and sitting down at a $5 a bet table. Somebody says to him “Bill you’re the richest man in the world, shouldn’t you be at the $5,000 a bet table and he replied “what’s the difference?”.

Some things you just can’t measure, either you acknowledge them or you don’t. One million, two million or three million what’s the fucking difference.

I would agree – but not here. Craig has made this abundantly clear in the past – if people want to be holocaust denials or racists there are plenty of other places where they can express such views. You cannot force people to provide a public forum for such views if they don’t want to – that is also part of freedom of speech.

The simple logic RD is if you don’t support Putin you must support Poroshenko. True?

No – and you said that you didn’t support Putin!

Node, when you criticised Resident Dissident’s link I inspected the JTA website. The link you gave was deceptive. JTA was reporting on a racist blog post called “Dealing with Savages”; it did not endorse the blog post. I spent some time looking for race-hate material but did not find any.

If you have links that show that site to host race-hate material, post them here; I will check them and remove them in due course. I’m not looking again myself because you wasted my time last time.

Resident Dissident; “yet you do nothing when others link to holocaust denial or racist websites”

    How many racist sites on this list did you complain about ? ;

Fred; “One million, two million or three million what’s the fucking difference”

Morally none, factually all the difference; I prefer recalled & taught History to be accurate as possible, which means that the historical record has to be continuously examined, tested, verified, etc, by any new evidence &/or peer reviewed studies/researches.

Resident Dissident : I also noticed you stood by quite idly while Christopher Hitchens was being defamed and even added your own little bit as a bonus.

I have taken no position on the Hitchens, Irving, or Holocaust revision. My complaint to Technicolour was about her inappropriate accusations of ‘Holocaust Denial’.

Resident Dissident : Grown up behaviour is not promoting holocaust denial – I linked to one website with other content of which I was not aware and I apologised. Puffing Billy has not even done that.

Grown up behaviour in this context is not ‘running to the teacher’ during a debate which you have freely entered into. I referred to your past transgression to demonstrate that both sides can play that game’, but it stifles debate. Is that your intention? Because it’s what you’re doing.

Resident Dissident : As for hypocrisy – I note how you are prepared to hound me for my small mistake, and yet you do nothing when others link to holocaust denial or racist websites.

Because those others haven’t tried to censor you.

Resident Dissident : I would agree – but not here. This is a quite stunning piece of hypocrisy! It is quite clear that Craig wants above all else, free and open debate on this blog. That he has been forced to moderate that policy is entirely due to people like you who have several times threatened to involve the police rather than ignore obvious (sock-puppet?) troublemakers. And indeed that’s exactly how you caused the blog down to be shut down. I sometimes wonder if you’re trying to do it again.

    @Mods

I chose my words carefully in that comment.

I first of all quoted RD saying about John Goss’s comment “I would also expect the mods to remove the link because of its clear racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic content.”. Then I pointed out the JTA article which committed exactly the same sins against Palestinians.

The article was about a blog post by Rabbi Steven Pruzansky referring to “the Arab-Muslim animals that span the globe chopping, hacking and merrily decapitating,” and also “At a certain point, the unrestrained behavior of unruly animals becomes the fault of the zookeeper, not the animals.” The JTA article pointed out that the blog post had been deleted but provided a link to a cache where it could be found. It quoted extensively from the blog post including the rabbi’s suggestions to end civil and human rights for many Arab Israelis and Palestinians, that rioters and stone-throwers should be shot with live ammunition, that reporters should be barred from these scenes and have their cameras confiscated, and that beyond killing all terrorists and demolishing their extended families’ homes, Israel should destroy entire Arab villages if more than one terrorist comes from them. The article reported all these views without one single word of criticism for the rabbi

You say ” JTA was reporting on a racist blog post called “Dealing with Savages”; it did not endorse the blog post.” Neither did it criticise it. It extensively showcased all those racist and violent views, it provided a link to where the deleted original could be found, and it neither criticised the rabbi, or even referenced any criticism or bad publicity the rabbi might have received elsewhere. I would call that passive endorsement. Certainly if any website uncritically published extensive quotes from a Holocaust denier, it would be accused of endorsing those views.
In that comment, I was appealing to Resident Dissident to play fair, address the data not the source . . . let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Indeed my closing paragraph was conciliatory:

“Resident Dissident clearly identifies with some of the sentiments expressed on this website, but that does not necessarily make him a racist too. It would be petty, vindictive and unfair to hold him responsible for all the content of every website he links to. Let’s all use a bit of common sense.

I’m still making the same appeal.

RD: “I look forward to the apologies from Herbie and TonyM for their misrepresentation of Hitch’s views – but I won’t hold my breath.”

Please do try, for as long as you possibly can. You’ll have a long, infinite, time to wait. I’ve based my refutation of Technicolour’s revisionism (this is the appropriate term as Technicolour rejects the establishment narrative) on the baldly factual impossible now (as then) to contest part of what Hitchens wrote, not imponderable guesses and stabs in the dark in trying to discern or define his “views”.

Hoess will still do as an exemplar of evil; arrest, uprooting, transportion of and herding people into such camps, mere participation in a system of subjection to that and in their incarceration in such conditions, and even if it were a model camp, still qualifies him and many more, that alone was epic scale inhumanity. To participate though might have been a rational choice, the only alternative in those circumstances would probably have been death or their own incarceration, there was little scope for dereliction or desertion. My understanding is that the German staff and guards had little to do with the actual running of the camps, had minimal contact with those held, day to day matters were almost entirely in the hands of the prisoners themselves, discipline, punishment, supply or with-holding of food, and tolerable accommodation, power over life or death, selection for work of differing degrees of unpleasantness, administration of ‘justice’ and all such matters, was largely in the hands of a highly stratified and ruthless internal tyranny run by and comprising of prisoners themselves, compared with whom the German staff or guards might have seemed to some a far lesser terror.

There is a nasty little book from 1934 called The Alien Menace by one Lieut-Col. A. H. Lane, if you’re aware of it RD, you’d see that many of the generalisations, smears and fears and ‘concerns’ of Anon in his now infamous post, which Jemand, Canspeccy & Co also regularly make about Muslims could be taken from that almost verbatim, but the difference is that the aliens referred to, then in 1934, were not Muslim. You and the other ever present establishment goons, never call out the above named commenters when they go far too far with their Islam-bashing, for which along with any other religion, I hold no grudge but nor tender any favour or sympathy, your and your cohorts double-standards however are plain for all to see and are not at all an edifying sight.

@Peacewisher 3/1/15, 02:55 “Yes, Mary, very sad. No thanks at all to Katie Hopkins for bringing racial hatred into the mix.

Is the supposed dissing of a Scot “racial hatred”? Huh. What “race” are Scots, as opposed to that of the rest of the UK?

Whatever – third rate comediennes have every right to make third-rate jokes – in a free society.

Since their region has the second highest murder rate in Europe, one wouldn’t expect the Scottish police to make investigating silly jokes a priority.

@Tony M 3/1/15, 06:58 : Cracking summary, dude. I was a bit puzzled as to what was going on there, and have to note that Anon is still sulking after the bitch-slapping he got for posting that hate-speech link of lies (concerning polls about Muslim tendencies) from a fanatical anti-Islam site.

    Concerning “Anon”:
That’s the game. Say a bunch of lies and innuendo, lay low if it doesn’t go down well, then say it again. The responses are expensive to counter, because rebuffing it is time consuming and requires far more effort than the original lies.

Repeatedly telling lies is tactic of attrition, when the lie concerns fear, danger, or pain. People react to a negative stimulus far more than they are drawn, through consideration, to a positive reward. Hence superstition – people will go well out of their way to avoid something which might be negative, despite no evidence whatsoever.

Calling someone back from fear, suspicion and prejudice takes vastly more work, than installing said conditions in the first place.

So lay down lies, particularly ones which seem divisive, racially based, and do the work for your masters. How they laugh at this entertainment, with the struggling working classes fighting among themselves!

“Anon” actually did sound quite reasonable a few days ago, yet now s/he’s doing this “What? What??” act about a maliciously skewed interpretations of a selection of polls.

    Anyway, off to work…

It is indeed very easy to turn one group of people against another. As Göring said, that was the easy part.

While Germany had conscription during the war, no-one was forced to join the Waffen SS. People volunteered (including the novelist Günther Grass, who kept it quiet for a long time) because it had higher status and in many cases the opportunity for personal enrichment. Scouse Billy posted a link earlier to the history of one of the commanders at Büchenwald who was particularly notorious in this respect (and communists were indeed organising in the camps, after all it was them that the Nazis came for first…)

    Let them starve.

Meals on wheels provision in England drops by 63%
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30664937

‘The number of vulnerable people receiving meals on wheels from English councils has more than halved in the last five years, Labour research shows.

The analysis, based on Freedom of Information requests, shows 109,000 people had meals delivered to them in 2014/15, down from 296,000 in 2009/10.

Labour estimates the drop equates to some 220,000 fewer people receiving the service nationally during that time.’

More on that Food banks Story –

The UK is the seventh richest country in the world.
It is also a deeply unequal country. In May 2014, the
Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that the
richest one percent of Britons own the same amount
of wealth as 54 percent of the population.1
    The same
month, the Sunday Times reported that the 1,000
richest people in the country had doubled their wealth
    in five years.
n Yet at the same time, millions of families across the
UK are living below the breadline. Oxfam and Church
Action on Poverty have calculated that 20,247,042
meals were given to people in food poverty in 2013/14
by the three main food aid providers. This is a 54
    percent increase on 2012/13.

@Glenn_UK: In general terms, I would agree with you. However, Katie chose the use the word “jocks”, which is similar to the use of “chinkies” to describe people who come from China i.e. projecting something onto all members of a particular country by use of a derogatory name. In his case she is suggesting that Scots are like other non-English Europeans taking our English resources, which is promoting anti-Scottishism.

But it is not just that… if someone is ill, they need sympathy to help then recover. The nurse was very brave going out to West Africa to help provide medical support, and she really, really shouldn’t be insulted by someone with a political (and personal?) agenda when she returns.

There… potential racist, and very bad taste. That’s the sort of person UKIP is providing a platform for… It shouldn’t be called UKIP any longer anyway, because it is increasingly about English independence. I think I’ll refer to it as EIP in future.

As I have already pointed out Hitchens was informed by Deborah Lipstadt regarding the number of deaths at Auschwitz and hence the veracity of Hoess’s claims. I suspect that he would also have been informed by Professor Lipstadt, like myself, regarding the involvement of German staff and guards in the actual running of the camps – your understanding on these matters is near to worthless, its only purpose being to demonstrate quite clearly where you are coming from.

    http://www.hdot.org/en/trial/defense/van/i.html

You might also wish to refer to the evidence I posted in response to Puffing Billy regarding the German staff looking to increase the capacity of the gas ovens.

I also consider your association of my views with those of Canspeccy and Jemand regarding Islam to be defamatory – my position is quite distinct if you bother to look – I do not make broad brush assertions about the nature of Islam as a whole.

    Looking Backward, Looking Forward: 2014-2015
    January 3rd, 2015
    http://dissidentvoice.org/2015/01/looking-backward-looking-forward-2014-2015/

    He concludes –

‘The US economy will become even more lopsided, unequal and subject to financial volatility. Middle and working class Americans will become further alienated from the parties, legislature and executive – abstention will increase. However, many Americans will struggle to elect popular representatives in local elections and initiatives.

Overseas the US will fail to secure any decisive military victory in any major theater of war. ISIS in Syria and Iraq is likely to continue to occupy wide swaths of territory and to sustain a long term war. The Taliban will eventually surround the big cities and garrisons in which US advisers are holed up. Libya will continue to be a failed sate. The Ukraine will likely descend into economic bankruptcy. In Greece the left-socialist party SYRIZA will probably win the elections and attempt to impose a moratorium on debt payments and stimulate the economy. The neo-liberal political regimes in Italy, Spain and Portugal will continue to deteriorate. In France the Socialist regime’s embrace of a pro-business agenda will provoke major conflicts with trade unions and may fracture. The National Front may become the leading party, adopting positions on the Right (anti-immigrant) and Left (anti EU austerity). Leftist, populist and far-right parties and movements are likely to increase support in eight scheduled elections in the EU this year.

Turmoil, wars, and sanctions will lead to new political alignments. Just as Russia and China move to realign, so too, political forces in North and South America, Asia and the Middle East may find new de facto alignments. Saudi and Israel, Iran and Iraq, Turkey and Russia, Brazil and Venezuela …

Unpredictable challenges may emerge from minor and major players: Greece’s new SYRIZA government, by refusing to abide by Berlin’s austerity agenda, may provoke a major crises in the EU. China’s anti-corruption campaign could lead to heighten mass protests. North and South Korea may open long sought negotiations – excluding the US.

With the beginning of 2015 we enter a journey to the end of the night…’

Please spare some time to watch & share. 9/11 is the news for 2015 and this world is gonna ROCK if we don’t get our heads straight and deal with this calmly and efficiently – we don’t need riots and more trouble, we need sanity, sense and reason of the LAW and we need all people of all faith, class and ethnicity to come together and stand up for what is GOOD and RIGHT in the eyes of life. Craig Murray Rusbridger – Handmaiden to Power
Posted by Gutenberg on January 4, 2015, 10:44 am

    https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2014/08/rusbridger-handmaiden-to-power/

If this has been shared before, I apologise for the repetition but it’s definitely a good read and an eye-opener for people such as myself who were unaware of Rusbridger’s reactionary credentials.

After recently watching Rusbridger’s segment in the Mediastan documentary and reflecting on the disdain that the whistleblower panel at Frontline held for the Guardian’s stunt of destroying their laptops, under GCHQ supervision and approval, I came across Murray’s piece.

    Video Mediastan The Rusbridger extract
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNgFDFibit0

On a side note, before reading Murray’s piece, I had no idea that the Guardian actually gave up a source back in the 80s, resulting in their imprisonment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Tisdall
Peter Preston, who’d been the editor at the time wrote a self-pitying account of the situation for the BJR in 2005:
    http://www.bjr.org.uk/data/2005/no3_preston

Couldn’t Preston have hidden the documents in question at a safe-house, ala Daniel Ellsberg with the Pentagon Papers? Or simply defied the authorities and challenged them to imprison him? I suppose those are only choices for people with the courage of their convictions.
