Imported Electoral Practices 90

Every single accusation against the Mayor of Tower Hamlets, I witnessed being done by Lord Patel’s enforcers on behalf of Labour in Blackburn. My thoughts are today with those, particularly women and young people, in the Islamic community there who are now under terrible pressure. They are obliged to show their completed postal ballots before sealing to community elders, often themselves Labour councillors. They are not allowed to vote other than by post. The heads of household who have to enforce discipline on their families are themselves sometimes not happy, but tied in to mostly Gujerati tribal structures of subservience. That this still happens in the United Kingdom in 2015 is disgusting. What is worse is that it happens with the knowing connivance of Labour Party officials and of Blackburn Council.

Remind me again. What precisely qualified Patel to become a member of the House of Lords?

Biggest ethnic group (35%) in Tower Hamlets are Bangladeshi Muslims, Gujeratis are predominately Hindu.

Current edition of the ‘Eye carries an article about similar shenanigans amongst the Sikh community in Gresham.

At least we can now talk about these things without being shouted down for being racist.

“Remind me again. What precisely qualified Patel to become a member of the House of Lords?”

His undivided support for Jack Straws manipulated reign over nearly four decades.

“The peerage bestowed on Lord Adam Patel in February 2000 was widely seen in the local Blackburn community as a gift from Jack Straw to mark both access to the Gujarati vote bank for Labour and also a long-standing personal friendship – apparently the young Straw spent his honeymoon in Adam Patel’s village in Bharuj, Gujarat?! The noble Lord’s service in Parliament has been low-key, though some of his Parliamentary Questions have been surprising – for example in 2011 “To ask Her Majesty’s Government what steps they plan to take to reduce the vulnerability of global navigation satellite systems to terrorist attacks…”. Lord Adam Patel was also gifted a position in the until-recently FCO sponsored British Hajj Delegation. Now the noble Lord has raised some eyebrows in his local community by endorsing the butcher of Gujarat,Chief Minister Nerendra Modi. According to the Batley journal ‘Paigham’, Patel stated, “as a Gujarati myself, I consider it to be a gross insult that the CM of my state, hower, wronged (sic) one might feel he is, cannot express his views at a global forum because a few (!) in the audience dislike him”. Paigham also reports that “…in January Patel is said to have met Modi during a visit to Gujarat”.

PS: CM stands most likely for ‘chief minister’, not Craig Murray….;)

Er, how exactly does this fit in with the “British values” that we hear so much about? That sounds like two illegal acts right there – so why is no one prosecuting? Just as with Labour in Blackburn and the De Menezes case, some official decides – on undisclosed grounds – not to do anything, and that’s that.

  • Trowbridge H. Ford

Just find it so typical that there is no mention of Patel’s contributions to obstetrics etc. when talking about how he became a life peer.

It’s just all about Labour and the vile Jack Straw.

    HOUSE OF LORDS

    MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

    Die Mercurii 16° Februarii 2000

The House met at half-past two o’clock.

PRAYERS were read by the Lord Bishop of St Albans.

    1. Lord Patel of Blackburn—Adam Hafejee Patel Esquire, having been created Baron Patel of Blackburn, of Langho in the County of Lancashire, for life by Letters Patent dated 14th February 2000, was introduced between the Lord Taylor of Blackburn and the Baroness Castle of Blackburn, the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod and Garter King of Arms preceding; and took and subscribed the oath pursuant to statute.’

More of the archaic tripe above.

We all know about Castle. Not so well known is Taylor.

Suspended, not from a lamp post!, but from the red benches.

Shows which Lords voted most similarly to this one in the Parliament. This is measured from 0% agreement (never voted the same) to 100% (always voted the same). Only votes that both Lords attended are counted. This may reveal relationships between Lords that were previously unsuspected. Or it may be nonsense.

Perhaps Nicola Sturgeon, as coalition joint leader (hopefully), could meet Mr Putin.

That National Post article is the same bullshit that we get on a daily basis here. Harper is as bad as all the other leaders bending to please the Yanks. Let it not be forgotten how Stephen Harper and John Howard (Australian prime minister) lied through their teeth using exactly the same words prepared for them by the Yanks to take us and them into an illegal war.

“Maybe it’s time for Ms. Sturgeon to meet and greet Putin. Scotland needs to lay the groundwork for its independent foreign policy of peace and pacific dispute resolution.”

Personally, I feel there should be no meetings and less still no deals with homophobes, transphobes, misogynists and sexist, thumbintheeye. It’s simply beneath one.

It is a stain on the coat of democracy that those people are literally forced to vote, not of free will but of who their elders say they should vote for.

But what can be done about it often ethnic communties won’t talk to officials about such matters, due fear,or in extreme cases being shunned.

I know in Glasgow that many of the Asian communities, don’t trust Jim Murphy due to his pro-stance on the Iraq war.

But whether or not coercion goes on behind the scenes is another matter.

  • Becky Cohen

Sorry to triple post, but btw…if the media is anything to go by then one could be mistaken for assuming that Islam was the only patriarchal religion on earth. The reality is though, that both Christianity and Judaism also have many sexists, misogynists, homophobes and transphobes in them. For instance, in the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Jewish denominations women still aren’t allowed to become Priests or Rabbis and opposition to same sex marriage tells us that evangelical Protestant groups – such as ‘Christian Concern’ aren’t much more tolerant either. However, the reason that Muslims get singled out so much is undoubtedly because of racism. Although Islam is a religion, not a race – because many Muslims who live in Europe are of Asian Sub-Continent or North African heritage then far right neo-Nazis use it as just another excuse to batter them.

  • Republicofscotland

The SNP want independence for Scotland, breaking up the UK, and Labour absolutely refuse to work with them in the UK parliament for that reason.

Plaid Cymru want independence for Wales, breaking up the UK, and Labour absolutely refuse to work with them in the UK parliament for that reason.

The SDLP want independence for Ireland, breaking up the UK, and Labour not only work with them in the UK parliament but actively help them to win seats.

    The logic of Labour.

Indeed, Kempe. A welcome change from when I (recently) mentioned the gangs of Asian child-groomers, rapists, torturers and traffickers in certain English cities and was roundly abused by the likes of Mr Scorgie, Mary, RoS, etc for apparently supporting racism and Islamophobia.

I notice that those who were quick to have a go at me are keeping rather quiet wrt to Master Craig’s sortie.

  • Habbabkuk (la vita è bella)

Indeed, those courageous individuals are busily diverting : RoS is on about the SNP, Mr Goss is on about Putin, Mary about Israel…. etc

  • Habbabkuk (la vita è bella)

It’s interesting that, with a couple of days to go before the election , there is so little on here about policy – or policies – whether from Master Craig or his loyal followers.

What we see instead is a lot of stuff on process (electoral fraud) and on presentation (is the BBC biased) accompanied by little squibs various subjects like the Royal baby (2 posts) and Scottish independence.

I wonder why that should be?

Could it be that these subjects lend themselves rather easily to the customary rants and public self-pleasuring from the Eminences and Useful Idiots, whereas posting on policy or policies might require them to put forward some positive suggestions and ideas for a change?

  • Prince Andrew's hymen collection

Listen to habbakuk begging you in his whiny nasal voice to take his collapsing horseshit regime seriously with ‘policy.’ The policy is your basket-case shithole disintegrates.

O/T Ex-Army chief Lord Bramall questioned in child abuse inquiry
    30 April 2015

Former chief of the defence staff Lord Bramall has been questioned by police investigating allegations of historical child abuse, the BBC understands.

The Metropolitan Police said a man in his 90s was interviewed under caution after agreeing to attend a police station near Farnham, Surrey.

He spent nearly two hours at the police station during which he answered questions. He was not arrested.

Lord Bramall told the BBC he had no comment to make.

The 91-year-old was questioned as part of Operation Midland.

It is difficult to fight against – or even to enter into discourse against – all three Right-wings, the three Right-wings that everywhere dominate power, wealth and discourse today:

    1) Neoliberal/establishment/imperialist Right – the overlapping nodes of power we know so well. Currently and normatively messing-up the world.
    2) Clerical Fascist Right (melded with the Patriarchal ‘traditionalist’ bloc): The dominatrix to the Soft Left’s submissive; perioidcally in cahoots with 1). Currently and normatively messing-up the world wherever it can.
    3) White Supremacist Far Right and its various be-suited emanations (UKIP etc al). Would mess-up the world (again) if only it could.

    Ah, there we are.
