Free Books Competition 219

The media is in a frenzy about Iranian “suspected” nuclear weapon development, with virtually every article and broadcast also referencing Israel’s view.

A free copy of The Catholic Orangemen of Togo for every one who first points out each mainstream media reference to Israel’s own massive illegal arsenal of nuclear weapons.

I don’t anticipate giving away a single book.

    Not true – look again.

I am not a Karimov sympathiser in any form whatsover. Human rights like freedom from torture are universal.

How does Israel’s violation of Security Council Resolutions justify those of Iran? This is the logic of the madhouse I’m afraid.

re evidence in respect of Iran’s elections – you said no evidence – just Google to see that this statement is not correct – wikipedia entry has many links.

“a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police had said that one of the tactics available was “the authority to deploy baton rounds [plastic bullets] in extreme circumstances”.

Not using them during riots and considering using them now would be true crime.

Apologies for misdirecting my response re the Carter Center – perhaps Guest who accused me of misleading comments might wish to account for his misleading comment on the Carter Center – I suspect an apology will be too much to ask for.

    You have lost a great opportunity to shut up. Comparing Iraq, and Saddam the failure whom had attacked Iran, Kuwait, and dreamt of attacking elsewhere, with Iran and waxing lyrical about “authoritarian” regime and weaknesses thereof. Saddam was armed by the West, and his battle plans for his army were drawn up by the various Western Generals, and sent on an errand to attack Iran, and rid the US oligarchs from those pesky Iranians dreaming of independence from the West, and the East. Despite the material help that included the satellite down-link (ie real time stuff) station in Baghdad, Saddam still got his butt whipped in the eight years of war with Iran. Further, you have not understood that Iran is producing almost all of her weapons systems herself, and the friend and foe systems’ spiking of her defensive equipment will not be rendering the Iranian defences useless. These oversights, aside. Your mechanical instance on “democracy”, are boring. Let us establish some principles;
    ,
There are no fair and free elections in UK/US/Germany/Japan/etc (ask Craig, he ought to know). Go re-read my post then start talking about “authoritarian” regime, just because you cannot see, or you have not been involved at proximities to the control constructs, you still dream, emphasis dream; there exist a “democracy”. Go find what do Plutocracy and Plutarchy mean, what do these entail and then only observe around you.

The reason why no journalist will ever mention Israel’s illegal nuclear weapons is obvious. They will be called Anti-Semites for doing it.
And they will have no career, until they retract their anti-Semite accusation that Israel has nuclear weapons.
Any comment that Zionists do not like, is labelled Anti-Semitism.
Even right with extreme Zionists are labelled as anti-Semites by people with more extreme Zionists views then they do.

  • arsalan

In shirt, Israel wants Iran destroyed. So any comment that gets in the way of that, is Anti-Semitism.

How does Israel’s violation of Security Council Resolutions justify those of Iran? This is the logic of the madhouse I’m afraid.

Indeed. Iran is a signatory of the NNPT, and it is very, very bad of it to resist inspection. It needs to be made to feel as insecure as possible, by sanctions impacting hugely on the population at large.
Israel acquired its (hundreds of working) nuclear weapons clandestinely, some of them at least from signatories of the NNPT, but is not a signatory of the NNPT itself. Inspections are not allowed, and even the US has not been permitted to see what’s been going on in Dimona. Israel holds stocks of prohibited WMD’s. Israel’s security is preserved by billions in military aid from the US.
    .
    This is sanity?

    .
Do not you think that allowing someone ‘great opportunity to shut up’ is a sign of one being intolerant to the opinion of another?
    .
It is true that Saddam was supported by the West in Iraq-Iran war but by the time of US/UK invasion to Iraq, Iraq by no mean was any weaker than Iran today (that what I was going to point out in my previous post). If you consider weak states are only those like Somalia then you are wrong. Weak states can have authoritarian ruler or rulers with strong grip on power but in time of crisis (either externally or internally originated) those states fall into chaos.
    .
As for Iran producing weapons itself; you might not have heard about Russian and Chinese military aid and assistance to Iran. I suggest you read something on this matter first. Again here Russia is more encouraged with anti-western foreign policy rather than any other foreign policy aspect particularly considering that some in Russia itself feel that major threat to its security in future will come from religious extremism and how Russia deals with this within its own borders (Chechnya being one good example and in general Russian policy in Northern Caucasus, Bashkirstan and Tatarstan).
    .
On the notions of democracy; I am not as naive as you might think of me. Several times I pointed out to the limitations of democracy in the West but generally power structure and laws in the West are much more liberal than in Uzbekistan and even in Iran. Notions of pure democracy that describe democracy as power in hand of people is purely academic. Power is always and in every society is in hand of elites but in the West at least people can have some effect on political and social developments. That is something people in Uzbekistan, Iran, China and even Russia are ousted from.

“”re evidence in respect of Iran’s elections – you said no evidence – just Google to see that this statement is not correct – wikipedia entry has many links.”” (rofl)

The ziophile, next would have us believe Santa Clause is real too!
    ,

However, would the same “democracy” merchant own up to the fact that there was a general strike yesterday in the Land of Settlers, Occupation and Oppression? the news of which somehow did not make it out apparently! silly me, every one was talking about Amano and his reports of laptop of mass destruction which has plans as yet unknownly dangerous to the planet Earth, and beyond (hysteria doe not have a luck in). The very same laptop planted by the plethora of the Israeli and US spy agencies back in 2003/4, as in shades of “Uranium form Niger”, and or the “Ornium” [Sic] (that was written on the black case that sported Made in Germany too) find in the Turkish Iraqi Border, in the run up to the Cakewalk to Baghdad. This find turned out to be a poultice recipe. Fact is there has always been evidence, but whose evidence, don’t ask that bit.
    ,
Israelis can violate all the International laws, and conventions, and…, well no one ought to ever mention that because otherwise they are anti semitic bastards whom are too jealous and hate the Chosen ones for their prowess (the same prowess that is kept going only by the US tax payers money). Further, this should have no bearing on the arguments about yet more aggressive Israeli conduct, because the “hated enemy” (the whole of humanity) currently curtailed to denote Iran. The very same country which has been progressing and proved that without any Rothschild ran central banking system the place would still remain operationally intact and not fall apart.

  • Stephen

“Israelis can violate all the International laws, and conventions,”

That may be your view it most definitely isn’t mine. The real question is how you seek to deal with those abuses. Might I suggest giving Ahmadjinebad the power to nuke them isn’t the answer either – and neither is turning a blind eye while he gets the power to do so.

The problem is that there are two sides to this story – neither of which are very nice and both of hwich have their faults

    .
Why exactly one who does not want to praise Iranian great leaders as the only whose policy is right and wise is Zionists?
    .
Similar to Uzbekistanis Iranians have great and rich history of distant past but very unfortunate governments of present and not so past.
    .
Iran needs reforms and not nuclear weapons. It has been 32 years since revolution in Iran, 20 years since collapse of Soviet Union and yet no one has made any invasions to Iran.

Stephen you have been told that Ahmadinedjad is not in charge of the military, nor has he anything to do with developing foreign policy, still you and sidekick Mike are hell bent to mention the elected PM of Iran as a madman.

That from western shills who supported Saddams murderous regime, provided him with VX, built up his armament and repression regime and said nothing when he gassed the Kurds of Halabja, indeed we rewarded him with a 600 million contract within 48hrs of that massaker. Thanks for making that point again passerby, Stephen and Mike W. don’t seem to realise that guilt by association does exist.
Netanyahu’s obsessive orientation and glamourising of a highly depressive Winston Churchill is nevertheless giving us a clue as to his own mental dis/abilities.

Looking at the obsessive behaviour and lack of communicative abilities, not to mention his pathological lying, Bibi Netanyahu might actually have some sort of mental disability, a block that clouds his overall judgement, something he can’t get out of.

Benzion will never be a Churchill, however much he would like to copy him, he will be remembered for failing to engage at a crucial time in Palestine’s history and for increasing the casmn between Israel and its neighbours in the west bank and Ghaza. He has failed Yisrael and is now trying to cover it up with some useless hard talk and possible military action, wrapping himself in the bloodied flag of Zion.

You are making less and less sense as we progress. Further, assumptions galore, your preferred nostrum for me is to go and read, some more! All the while pushing the same thoughts which have been thought for you so benevolently by the oh so concerned plutocrats “infommercials” passed as “news” etc.
    ,
1- Iraq did not have a functioning army, most of her weapons systems were expensive mock-ups of weapons, they did not work, or function at all.
2- Iraqi army could not defend her, and furthermore Iraqis were disunited and did not intend to get killed for Saddam.
3- The invasion having taken place, only then the Iraqis realised their mistakes, and retaliated by using “IED” (Improvised Explosive Device) ie Heath Robinson weapons. As has been the case with Afghanistan.
    ,
The breadth of your grasp of International Affairs, somehow does not include the above mundane facts. Furthermore your hostility towards Russia somehow cannot resolve the basic understanding; Russia does not owe the West anything, and she ought to act in her own interests. Although, you somehow manage to shove in the “religious extremists” by which you mean the Saudi; manned, backed, and funded guerilla forces, behind the lines of Chechen front. Engaged in a fight which was stoked up to stop the Oil Pipeline from Caspian basin reaching the Black Sea ports of Russia. You see the oil industry Oligarchs have to control the flow of oil as well as determining the amounts, and deciding upon the titles of ownership of the oil.
    ,
Not content, then you forward the notion of reform in Iran, evidently forgetting that Iranians had a revolution and kicked their overlords to kingdom come. Fact that the same revolutionary bunch will not put up with any kind of despotism, does not even cross your mind, hence reforms are for wimps in Iran, does not cross you mind either.
    ,
Finally stop writing and go on to get some reading done, instead of typing garbled posts, that convey the ridiculous notions of “praising Iranian Leadership”, which shows your singular failure in understanding any of my posts. The question is not about leadership but the people, and their inalienable right to leading a life free from threats, coercion, hunger, thirst, illness. Along with access to shelter. These are every human beings inalienable right, and do not somehow matter in the current political constructs, seeing as the only game in town is “democracy”, “freedom”, and “free markets”.
    ,
The current drumbeat of war is not about Iranian Leaders, but the Iranian peoples’ assets and lives, about those Iranians to be made into sitting tenants in their own country, as which has happened to; Germany, Japan, Italy, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Alas your prejudices, and your blind hatred of Karimov et al colouring your mind, you cannot learn anything other than socking up to the Western prescribed mantra; secular democratic free market political system. Whilst discounting;Uzbek reforms would only come from Uzbek, and not the West. Fact is Karimov is being paid for renting his airport to US, and US have the right guy in place, in the long traditions of the “Freedom Loving” anti communists, doing a fine Job, just like; Aliov, Pinochet, and the death squad operating el Salvador Junta, Norriega (before his arrest), ad nauseum.

This is what that odious little shit Hague had to say today re: Iran

“It is bad news for proliferation in the region. This is the principle problem with Iran’s development – it threatens to drive a coach and horses through the non-proliferation treaty. Iran is a signatory to the non-proliferation treaty and it makes it much more likely that other states in the region will develop their own nuclear weapon programmes.
Then the world’s most unstable region will be in possession of the world’s most destructive weapons. This is a situation we have to take with the greatest seriousness.”

You have to seriously work at it to be able to ignore such a fucking huge great elephant in the room.

Iran is like a threatening dog. But it is Israel’s favourite, pet, threatening beast. The fool looks at the hand that is pointing not the thing that is pointed to, as someone said before. But in this case we should look at who is pointing and why.

Israel is very close to losing its main devious excuses for maintaining its apartheid violence. It has acquired land and resources in nearby Iraq which it wants to develop, and they need Shi’a co-operation to do it.

By placing themselves between the US and Iran, they look after their pit-bull, while apparently demonstrating moderation. You see the scenario often on UK streets. A fierce dog behaving like a kitten, so long as its owners are keeping it in the family group.

I don’t expect to win the competetion, but I do like these Free Book things. They had one at one of The Festivals we went to in the Summer.

They simply hung the books in plastic bags on The Tree. You were allowed to take one providing you gave it to someone else after you had read it.

But I did like Mr. Fish’s Cartoon
