Yes some things will change, others will stay as they are.

I’ve lived three score years never having to go to war and never having war come to me.

Throughout history few have been so fortunate, that is a change worth keeping.

It’s just a pity that your beloved British State has been at war in other countries for each of those three score years.

If you do not consider First Look horrifying then may I recommend some Tarzie for you. Tarzie has been shifting perspectives on Greenwald/FirstLook for a while. I think you might like it. It’s all excellent so click away but here’s some to start:

Phil; I’m not sure I want to call the Coroner yet. I think we should give them a chance. Any start-up co has got to find it’s bearings. As for Tarzie, we have a lot of ‘liberals’ in the US who think Snowden is a traitor. It’s useless to attempt some reason, because TREASON !

  • Ben-Scot NON-collaborator

Btw; Most of those ‘liberals’ are connected to the legal profession, and are jealous to guard their continued employment. They find it undermines the rule of law which insists that justice prevail and the guilty be punished; humanely, of course.

    Fred,

There are warmongers everywhere around the world there are also many pacifists.
The question is how do we fight for peace?

You don’t, fighting for peace is like…

    @Jay

There is no way, maybe one day reason will prevail, we can hope.

“Naturally the common people don’t want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. it works the same in any country.”

Oh no, not that old canard again, surely?

Though I do note that last time round it was “at war WITH other countries” and it’s now “at war IN other countries”, which would very conveniently cover events like EOKA in Cyprus and Mau Mau in Kenya.

    Creep!

  • Habbabkuk (La vita è bella) !

    JIVES!!

Wake up there! You were going to give us an example of courage and identify yourself fully for this blog, weren’t you? Unlike that “coward” Habbabkuk, dontcha know

What effects do you think Scottish independence might have upon international politics?

  • Mary

    Channelling me again. Tedious.

I was not complaining about cyclists, I was reporting a fact. I feel sorry for them cycling on the potholed Surrey Cary tracks that are called roads. The police cannot distinguish between drunk drivers and those weaving around the potholes!

Looks like they’ve got Ukraine sorted.

Two opposing oligarchs are going to fight it out for the presidency.

Much more honest than our system, where the oligarchs remain hidden, pulling the strings from behind the curtain.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/30/world/europe/ukraine.html

Petro Poroshenko, his nickname seems to be “Great”, as in Peter the Great. Could be a joke, maybe not.

  • BrianFujisan

No Fear Ben… You shall be there in Spirit… Cheers.

Herbie Kool link on Ukraine Thanks

This one takes on Obama Speech –

“But even in Iraq, America sought to work within the international system. We did not claim or annex Iraq’s territory. We did not grab its resources for our own gain. Instead, we ended our war and left Iraq to its people in a fully sovereign Iraqi state that can make decisions about its own future.” – well, it is even inconvenient to comment. A complete trash. The latest briefing on the situation in the war-torn failing state of Iraq is here.

“It is absurd to suggest, as a steady drumbeat of Russian voices do, that America is somehow conspiring with fascists inside of Ukraine but failing to respect the Russian people. ” – the facts tell for themselves – Ukrainian ultranationalists are funded and controlled by the US intelligence till now.

Finally, another correct phrase: “No amount of propaganda can make right something that the world knows is wrong.” You are talking about your own propaganda machine, president Obama! Just switch it off!

Just a minute: An Egyptian court has sentenced two supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi to death in connection with violence that followed his ouster last year.

Are we stuck in the 17th century?

The unseating of Morsi involved a labyrinthine of many-faceted subterfuge. Now, two more die by way of some of those tricks.

Mark More on Death sentence’s in Egypt….

The purpose of the military junta’s savage repression of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), expressed most recently in the mass death sentence handed down March 24 against 529 of its members, is not just the elimination of its main bourgeois political rival. It is aimed at intimidating and suppressing opposition to what the military-backed government has in store for the working class.

And Preparing for More False Flag Death and Shit stirring…

In a devastating exposure of the criminality of the US-led proxy war in Syria, Turkish officials have been caught planning an attack on their own forces to manufacture a pretext to attack Syria.

This is the content of a leaked audio recording, posted to YouTube, of a meeting between top Turkish diplomats and intelligence officials, including Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Hakan Fidan, the head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT). At one point in the meeting, these officials discuss the possibility of organizing an attack from inside Syria across the Turkish-Syrian border, or on the Tomb of Suleiman Shah. Under the 1921 Treaty of Ankara between Turkey and France, then the colonial power in Syria, this tomb is a piece of sovereign Turkish territory inside Syria, guarded by Turkish forces.

    Much more on this @

I detected a slight note of complaint in your post, Mary, but of course accept your assurance that it wasn’t and that you were just reporting a fact.

But, you know, this is supposed to be a political blog, not a blog for all kinds of scraps of not very useful info.

Whatever. The sun’s shining (I hope) and I wish all an excellent day!

That’s rich coming from t—l who tells us nothing and who informs even less.
