It might not be so bad if the host countries actually benefitted financially, FIFA will make $1.8 billion out of the World Cup on which they will pay no tax.

  • Jives

$ 1.8 billion aint a bad take for FIFA,especially as its a non-profit organisation ..(ho ho).

    Not behind paywall.

STRANGE but true: every one of the World Cup’s 3m tickets comes via a modest two-storey office building on a business park in Cheadle Royal, south Manchester – some through the front door, others through the back door and into the black market.

The proprietors, Mexican brothers Jaime and Enrique Byrom, chums of disgraced bribe-taker and former Fifa president Joao Havelange, who have enjoyed exclusive World Cup ticket concessions for many years, are now guaranteed them for another decade under their latest deal with Sepp Blatter and his scrupulously honest executive committee. Whether the tournament is staged in Qatar, North America or Australia, the boys in Cheadle are certain winners. (snip)

    My Swedish agent in Brazil tells me;

“England will beat Uruguay and Costa Rica to go through to the next round!!”

He has more confidence than me.

Habbabkuk, I see that, like the Grand Old Duke of York, you are marching your army of straw men, ‘The West Haters’, up to the top of the hill again. Take care in this hot dry weather with all that straw around. One stray spark…

1.8 billion is what percentage of the NATO expenditures in Iraq/Afghanistan?

a few basis points is all. BUT BRICS?FIFA is a tragic waste of resources according to our fascist enablers, but there haven’t been casualties in Brazil, have there?

” Iraq’s Shi’ite rulers defied Western calls on Tuesday to reach out to Sunnis to defuse the uprising in the north of the country, declaring a boycott of Iraq’s main Sunni political bloc and accusing Sunni power Saudi Arabia of promoting “genocide.””

An unprecedented statement. Of course, that makes the US complicit with the Wahabis.

I took Craig’s comment, on an earlier World Cup thread, that crooked officials were assisting the host country, with a pinch of salt.

Half way into the first half of the Mexico game yesterday I had second thoughts, when a fingertip save by Julio Cesar should have resulted in a Mexican corner, but the Turkish referee turned a blind eye and awarded Brazil a goal kick instead.

If Brazil exit before the semis, or lose on penalties thereafter, it is likely to spark major disorder in the favelas and beyond. I wouldn’t be surprised if FIFA have therefore attempted to ease the host’s passage via the appointment of sympathetic officials at all their matches.

Christ. Clusterfuck on clusterfuck. Reminds me of the time the US abruptly ceased talking to Iran during a period of relative co-operation on the Taleban (whom Iran detests) Quid pro quo? Chess? Visceral loathing of Saudi trumps all other considerations?

Roll on windfarms and Chinese nuclear power stations. We can ignore all these bloodthirsty cunts then.

The photos came with this article. Meant to put it up before.

We have seen similar before, eg The G20 at Toronto June 2010.
This came back to mind. Some of the thugs were identified by the colour markings on the soles of their boots. ttp://www.globalresearch.ca/the-toronto-g20-riot-fraud-undercover-police-engaged-in-purposeful-provocation/19928

“Integration and miscegenation were actually government policy in Brazil. Around the time that slaves were freed, in 1888, the government sought to whiten its population through the importation of European immigrants. This idea was made law by Decree 528 in 1890 and opened the country’s borders to foreign immigrants, except for those from Africa and Asia.

“The goal of this immigration effort was depicted in an 1895 painting by Brazilian artist Modesto Brocos known as The Redemption of Ham, which features a black grandmother, mixed-race mother, white father and white baby. The grandmother stands to the left with her hands raised in prayer, praising God that her grandson is white. This, says Brazilian entrepreneur and activist Carlos Alberto David, is the “final point” of racism in Brazil.”

    You say:

“Argentina 1978 excepted, it seems to me that white, middle class crowds have always been a feature of world cups going back until at least the 1970.”

BTW, I have a question for you from the previous thread which you appear to have overlooked:

    “Almost daily, eh.

On a point of information, can you let us know how many drone strikes have been authorised on targets in Pakistan and Afghanistan since the beginning of this year?

The information is available to the public, but in the light of your comment (above)I would like you to have the pleasure of telling us.”

    Off you go, Doug.

Brazilians seem to be very uncivilized people. In October 2012, visiting Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota told Israeli president Shimon Peres that Israel’s threats of military action against the Islamic Republic (just propaganda barking to force Obama to attack Iran on Israel’s behalf during the election year) over its nuclear program are dangerous to the stability of the Middle East. In response, Shimon Peres, whom his fellow American Jewish writer, Stephen Lendman, called a war criminal – told Patriota that his government should boycott Iranian President Dr. Ahmadinejad.

“We expect Brazil to boycott future meetings with Ahmadinejad. When we met in 2010, I told former president Lula that it was a mistake to sit and talk with Ahmadinejad. Do not be mistaken, Iran is developing nuclear weapons. The Iranian nuclear threat casts a heavy shadow over the whole region,” Peres told Brazilian foreign minister.

“All the options must be on the table, we would all prefer to solve the problem through negotiations or economic sanctions but if those methods fail the military option will remain and will be serious and credible,” Peres added.

Patriota also stressed in his meeting with Peres the need for progress in the diplomatic process with the Palestinians. “We are very aware of the tensions in the region; this is a source of great concern for Brazil. We look at some of the situations around the region with concern. We would also like to see peace between Israel and the Palestinians,” he told Peres.

    My post:
    18 Jun, 2014 – 11:38 am:

…has been totally ignored by Resident Dissident and Habbabkuk.

Are they scared to engage in serious debate on the issues I raised?

    Yes, of course.

They go weak at the knees when any challenge to their ideology is made.

They simply ignore or insult the messenger.

  • Habbabkuk (La vita è bella) !

    Mr Scorgie

“They simply ignore or insult the messenger.”
    ______________________

The above characterises very nicely the behaviour of the Eminences and their useful idiots, whereas even a cursory glance at any thread will show that Resident Dissident and I (and others) are always ready to engage in vigorous debate and challenge the pensée unique of this blog.

In that context, may I remind you of the question I posed yesterday concerning the frequency and number of drone strikes (you has said that they occurred “almost daily”)? In case you have already forgotten the question, I’ve re-posted it on this thread at 17h02 today). Look forward to your figures.

“Hard to enjoy the match without thinking of the 25 billion dollars squandered on the tournament by the Brazilian government. . .”

Gilbert Mercier says very much the same.

I answered the troll partially on drone strikes on the Deadly Fiasco thread.

BBC London News have just reported on the 2nd anniversary of Julian Assange’s incarceration in Ecuador’s embassy. They used the phrase ‘facing trial in Sweden’, which is a lie, and were most exercised about the cost so far to the Met for the police presence, £2m.

    LET JULIAN ASSANGE GO FREE!
