    (I have always had a regard for Ken Clarke, but his willingness to defend vicious Tory cuts is changing my mind fast).

    Craig I think you left an ‘n’ out of cuts.

    Better! ( Esp Kinnock rather than Mandelson. But Kinnock is open to accusations of gravy training – cf his wife as MEP, whereas Mandelson’s wife was of course not eligible, being non-EU)

    European Union leaders warned Moscow they were ready to exercise their combined muscle over the long haul in a confrontation with an economically wounded Russia if President Vladimir Putin refused to pull back from Ukraine.

    “We must go beyond being reactive and defensive. As Europeans we must regain our self-confidence and realise our own strengths,” said Donald Tusk, the former Polish premier who chaired a brief EU summit in Brussels on Thursday.

    ” more US-led wars. ”

    The famous list of countries the US has bombed suggests otherwise.

    Incidentally Mandelson’s err, “wife” became a naturalised Brit in 2005.

    Yes indeed, but : he (ie, Mrs Mandelson) wasn’t a British citizen at the time of the 2004 European Parliament elections (hence ineligible to stand) and by the time of the newt EP elections in May 2009, Mandelson was already no longer an EU Commissioner (so couldn’t really pull any strings on behalf of his wife)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    re. your “err”-ing, I thought I read somewhere that they’d tied the knot and that Mandelson had made an honest woman of him? Apologies if in error.
    Brilliant comment! Tory Cnuts, of course, like the King pointing out he couldn’t control the tide.
    Correct me if I am wrong, incidentally, but the only opinion polls showing a Labour lead I have seen lately have been commissioned by the Guardian/Obeserver. Everyone else has a different story.
    Clarke and Mandelson are both Bilderbergers of many years
    standing and fully signed up to the globalist agenda, the
    EU, TTIP and every last bit of behind closed doors double
    dealing against the interests of the British people.
    Danny Alexander – not yet, but would love to get invited,
    if only for something to do once he is turfed out of Parliament.
    Lizards on manoeuvre – remain vigilant.
    Hmm, Diane Abbott. £600,000 off the taxpayer since 2007 and a handsome £12k spanked on a not very flattering portrait of herself. Very good at spending other people’s money so definitely a hopeful for a cushy EU job there.
    Caroline Lucas. Think it was her I heard on the radio the other day talking about mass-immigration. All for it, needless to say. “But where are the houses going to come from?” someone asked. “Well we need to build more”, came the reply. Yep, that’s from the Green Party.
    Alex Salmond. Lucky for him that the Scotch didn’t vote Yes – you’d be looking at a basket case right now with just good old Mr Barnett to prop up the economy. So it’s Westminster for Alex believe it or not and now Craig wants him to make the case for our subordination to the EU. You couldn’t make this shit up.
  • Republicofscotland
    Speaking of Danny Alexander he’s been urged to return a £50.000 donation that he say he’ll use to fight his Inverness seat,at the 2015 GE, from a self confessed tax dodger.
    Orion Engineering boss, Alan Savage,wrongly claimed tax allowance, for someone who didn’t work for him. Danny Alexander appeared on the Andrew Marr show, saying he was livid with not only big companies that tax dodge but rich individuals as well.
    Alexander the Chief of the Treasury had very little credibility, to begin with, he certainly has none now.
    Yes we are deceived Peacewisher. The problem with interpreting the control over our lives is systemic, intrinsic and deep-seated in which greed plays a part; yet it goes much deeper than that, to the most basic law of nature, our survival instinct. Our own sense of self-preservation safeguards the integrity of a corrupt global system of control through the medium of exchange.
    That is why the fundamental principle of governing is to protect and defend.
    Sadly we are ‘protected’ by an elite sociopathic personality that flouts this most basic law of nature, by terror, by war, by laws and by surveillance, torture and increasing apprehension.
    We are made to feel good; an oversight shaped by our idols, our superstars, our present day gladiators.
    Thankfully the system is unstable, lacking trust it is crashing.
    Best to contemplate how to pick-up the pieces and well… rebuild the milieu with respect and love.
    Another double talking politicians is Jim Murphy who constantly rabbits on about uniting Scots after the referendum. Yet Mr Murphy, couldn’t even bring himself to unite with a cross party census, of which all the parties at Holyrood agreed on.
    The saving of the RAF Kinloss Centre which houses the coastguard, was the topic that united all parties, except Murphy who decided to snub the others, a write a letter to David Cameron, by his own hand.
    If this is an example of Labours attempt to unite Scotland, then we’re in for one hell of ride, come the GE and the 2016 Scottish elections.
  • Resident Dissident
    “We remember the break-up of the Soviet Union.”
    Did you cry was it the saddest day of your life?
  • Resident Dissident
    “@RD: Imagine yourself as a resident of Crimea back in the 1990s who wished to become part of Russia, and voted to that effect a number of times, only to be ignored by Kiev.”
    Oh you mean one of the majority who voted to be a part of independent Ukraine in August 1991. I am generally not a friend of Anschluss – the historic precedents are not good.
  • Resident Dissident
    “My alternative trio to head the pro-EU campaign? Alex Salmond, Caroline Lucas and Diane Abbott.”
    I could not think of a better way to lose – you are Nigel Farage and I claim my £5. Seriously do you understand that you win elections and referendums by widening your constituency not by narrowing it just to those with whom you agree on nearly everything.
    We think we are the heroes, setting out with brave hearts to confront the Dark Lord,Putin, and free the saintly Ukrainians from his wicked grasp.
    This is all the most utter garbage. Since 1989, Moscow, the supposed aggressor, has – without fighting or losing a war – peacefully ceded control over roughly 180 million people, and roughly 700,000 square miles of valuable territory.
    The EU (and its military wing, Nato) have in the same period gained control over more than 120 million of those people, and almost 400,000 of those square miles.
    Until a year ago, Ukraine remained non-aligned between the two great European powers. But the EU wanted its land, its 48 million people (such a reservoir of cheap labour!) its Black Sea coast, its coal and its wheat.
    So first, it spent £300 million (some of it yours) on anti-Russian ‘civil society’ groups in Ukraine.
    Then EU and Nato politicians broke all the rules of diplomacy and descended on Kiev to take sides with demonstrators who demanded that Ukraine align itself with the EU.
    Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan’s long familiarity with Saudi Arabia, owing to the time he spent there as the CIA station chief in Riyadh in the 1990s and his knowledge of Saudi oil operations, has paid off.
    Petroleum industry insiders claim that Brennan’s agents inside Saudi Aramco convinced the firm’s management and the Saudi Oil Ministry to begin fracking operations in order to stimulate production in Saudi Arabia’s oldest oil fields.
    The Saudis, who are not known for their hands-on knowledge of their nation’s own oil industry, agreed to what became an oil pricing catastrophe which would not only affect Saudi Arabia but oil producing nations around the world from Russia and Venezuela to Nigeria and Indonesia.
    By pumping high-pressure salt water into older wells, some at a depth of three to six thousand feet, an inordinate amount of pressure was built up. The CIA’s oil industry implants knew what would occur when the fracking operations began. Due to the dangerously high water pressure, the Saudis were forced continuously pump oil until the pressure became equalized.
    That process is continuing. If the Saudis ceased pumping oil, they would permanently lose the wells to salt water contamination. In the current “pump it or lose it” situation, the Saudis are forced to pump at a rate that may take up to five years before they can slow down production rates to pre-glut levels.
    ……………………………
    Could this be one of the reasons oil is at a low price right now?
    I see that “Republicofscotland”, perhaps jealous of Resident Dissident’s three-in- a -row, has decided to show that he can do the same.
    Except that his three are tripe (non-edible variety) whereas Resident Dissident’s are hard-hitting, to the point, succinct, non-cut and paste and – most importantly – true.
  • Ben the Inquisitor
    Oh yes. i’m certain the problem isn’t with the EU. It’s who’s in charge… 🙂
    “Good posts RoS. Informative unlike the trolls’ garbage.”
    Thanks Mary, I enjoy reading your posts as well, it would seem you know who has ran out of anything interesting to say (A while back) and is now posting incoherent dross.
    Correct. And there’s more – much more in Mandelson’s case. Really murky stuff, and his enthusiasm for the EU is only exceeded by his delight in oligarchs.
    The business model of the future, here –
  • Ba'al Zevul
    RoS-
    It’s been known (though suppressed) for some time that Saudi’s wells have been flagging because the necessary investment in water drive wasn’t made in time to maintain production levels. Now they’re forced, on one reading, to maximise production to maintain revenue against the falling price. Which, they claim, is due to overproduction outside OPEC. This makes as much sense as any other reading IMO. And it means that water injection is mandatory. All but one of their fields are past their best.
    Dad and RD go on a camping trip. After a good dinner and a couple of bottles of Pims, they retire for the night, and go to sleep. Some hours later, RD wakes up and nudges Dad. “Habs, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.”
    “I see millions and millions of stars.” Dad replies.
    “And what do you deduce from that?”
    The cogs of Dad’s unique intelect grind into action.
    “Well, my hard-hitting, to the point, succinct, but feeble-mindedly otiose friend, it tells me that, notwithstanding their appearence as mere points of light, known to the ignorant as “stars”, there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Furthermore astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo and horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter after three. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. I can see that my Mind is all powerful, and that you are but a small and insignificant part of the universe whose sole purpose is to act as a foil to my own infinately superior intellectial magnificance. What does it tell you, RD?”
    RD is silent for a moment. “Habs!” he says. “Putin has stolen our tent!”
    Tomorrow’s FT headline:
    “Oil rout would have wrecked an independent Scotland’s finances – OBR study shows North Sea revenues would have slumped to a fifth of Holyrood forecast.”
