Why Murdoch Pushes for War 153

Given the disgraceful Sun front page and middle spread urging war on Syria, and the all-out propaganda on Sky News, it is important to understand why Murdoch is pushing so hard for war. I therefore reproduce my article from February 2013. It is important to note that the links are to industry publications: this is very genuine, hard information.

Israel Grants Oil Rights in Syria to Murdoch and Rothschild

Israel has granted oil exploration rights inside Syria, in the occupied Golan Heights, to Genie Energy. Major shareholders of Genie Energy – which also has interests in shale gas in the United States and shale oil in Israel – include Rupert Murdoch and Lord Jacob Rothschild. This from a 2010 Genie Energy press release

Claude Pupkin, CEO of Genie Oil and Gas, commented, “Genie’s success will ultimately depend, in part, on access to the expertise of the oil and gas industry and to the financial markets. Jacob Rothschild and Rupert Murdoch are extremely well regarded by and connected to leaders in these sectors. Their guidance and participation will prove invaluable.”

“I am grateful to Howard Jonas and IDT for the opportunity to invest in this important initiative,” Lord Rothschild said. “Rupert Murdoch’s extraordinary achievements speak for themselves and we are very pleased he has agreed to be our partner. Genie Energy is making good technological progress to tap the world’s substantial oil shale deposits which could transform the future prospects of Israel, the Middle East and our allies around the world.”

For Israel to seek to exploit mineral reserves in the occupied Golan Heights is plainly illegal in international law. Japan was succesfully sued by Singapore before the International Court of Justice for exploitation of Singapore’s oil resources during the second world war. The argument has been made in international law that an occupying power is entitled to opeate oil wells which were previously functioning and operated by the sovereign power, in whose position the occupying power now stands. But there is absolutely no disagreement in the authorities and case law that the drilling of new wells – let alone fracking – by an occupying power is illegal.

Israel tried to make the same move twenty years ago but was forced to back down after a strong reaction from the Syrian government, which gained diplomatic support from the United States. Israel is now seeking to take advantage of the weakened Syrian state; this move perhaps casts a new light on recent Israeli bombings in Syria.

In a rational world, the involvement of Rothschild and Murdoch in this international criminal activity would show them not to be fit and proper persons to hold major commercial interests elsewhere, and action would be taken. Naturally, nothing of the kind will happen.

    All,

Can you please raise a complaint on the BBC site about the coverage of Jeremy Corbyn this evening?

This is outrageous. Even by the standards of the BBC>

“Secondly, what makes you think consideration of the Golan Heights and off-shore potential deposits are mutually exclusive?”

Xlnt question, Glenn, the answer to which I await with bated-breath. Oh. I think bear-bating is currently illegal; notwithstanding future Tory votes toward human devolution. 🙂

With all the anger and angst accumulating amongst the disappointment in Labour/Libs/Democrats/Progressives as to intent as well as their flaccid outcomes, it’s wise to pause and note the real enemy.

‘What we have here is a failure to communicate’ is the well-worn quote from Cool Hand Luke who said “Sometimes ‘nuthin’ can be a real cool hand”.

We have to remember we do hold the cards. The opposition (neocons and counterfeit prigs) are desperate to control the public discourse and those who make their bones off the current system; the so-called ‘good’ folks who live lives of sectored ethics of a self-serving design. Many would bristle at the suggestion they have sold out to narcissism, but the life unexamined……nuff said.

Now that the UK govt has announced that it will accept 20.000 refugees from Syria over the next five years, is it not time for some of the bellowers on here to step up to the plate – as Craig indicated he was willing to do?

You will all recall that Craig said he was willing to accomodate some refugees in his house in Ramsgate. Now I realise that not everyone would have space to put up several refugees but I can think of a few who could certainly put up one. If they were prepared to accompany bellowing on the internet with practical, helpful action, that is.

Jkick (3.08pm) – The Vanguard Group is not some sinister or secretive organization. It’s one of the biggest investment firms in the US, managing billions of dollars of retirement money and other savings for ordinary Americans, in the form of Vanguard mutual funds. (It’s these funds which own shares in many big US companies).

Actually, the Vanguard Group is one of the good guys in the financial world, not to be confused with the likes of Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan etc. It pioneered low-cost mutual funds for the average Joe, at a time when other mutual fund companies were ripping off savers by charging high fees and hidden fees and generating high commissions through unnecessary transactions – practices which are still common in the UK today.

here’s some background info about genie energy etc. (from 2013)

    Refugees welcome, not arms dealers
Today, David Cameron said the UK will welcome just 20,000 Syrian refugees by 2020, yet next week the government is welcoming 30,000 arms dealers to London.

    Conflict and repression start here

Next week’s DSEI arms fair in London’s ExCEL centre will host the very people who are fuelling and profiting from the current refugee crisis.

With the support of the UK government, it will bring together military buyers from countries propagating war and repressing their own populations, and the weapons manufacturers who profit from conflict and insecurity.

    Please sign the petition
    http://action.globaljustice.org.uk/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=1784&ea.campaign.id=41873
to tell Cameron that it’s shameful that the UK government welcomes arms dealers with open arms while at the same time refusing entry to refugees fleeing those wars.

But because it starts here, we can stop it here too.

We can stand in the way of the arms fair’s business and its devastating impact around the world.

This week exhibition equipment and military hardware is rolling (or sailing) into the ExCeL – but activists are already there to stop it getting to its destination.

Today the Stop Arming Israel day of action blocked military equipment from entering the fair for the afternoon – and this is just the start.
    http://www.stopthearmsfair.org.uk/stop-the-arms-fair-week-of-action-7-12-september/

Join the ongoing action to stop the arms fair from going ahead and sign the petition to tell David Cameron to make‪ refugees welcome‬, not arms dealers.

On Friday we’ll hand in the petition to Downing Street, and we will also be taking your messages to the arms fair itself, to use as part of the blockades to stop it going ahead. Please sign!

    Campaign Against Arms Trade
    Thanks for your action!

    From Wikipedia

“On 19 June 1967, the Israeli cabinet voted to return the Golan to Syria in exchange for a peace agreement, although this was rejected after the Khartoum Resolution of September 1, 1967.”
    ____________________

I will leave it to readers to look up the Khartoum Resolution for themselves – let us just say it was rather…..belligerent.

As Abba Eban once said: the Arabs never lose an opportunity to lose an opportunity.

Recently watched the 1977 movie ‘Enemy of the People” which is an amazing diversion from McQueen’s previous films. The key point is that popularity is the primary quality excluding any Leader from attaining power by that means including the popular vote.

Now THAT’s a fascinating equation, and it certainly would result in Unpopularity in the extremus.

Oh mg. Is it the Historical Hab shift change? Christ! Timing is everything. Could we please have the clueless harbinger Hab, or the meticulous needler Hab? How about the shameless Israeli enabler Hab. They are all preferable to this incarnation.

How about the countless millions of pounds worth of private property owners in their mansions (with extra homes) across the country put them up?

I’m sure just the land Cameron himself own’s would suite most of them comfortably. Let’s not even start with the Royals property and potential helping power. But if we where making sensible suggestions they would be obliviously first on the list for stepping up? Not like sensible is expected from you though is it, or them.

Oops! I think the exit door awaits Cameron. He is on his way out. He looked flakey today.

‘David Cameron has suffered an embarrassing defeat over changes to the EU referendum campaign rules.

A government move to water down the so-called purdah guidelines, which blocks Whitehall spending public money to back one side in the last month of campaigning, was defeated by 312 votes to 285 – a majority of 27.

The margin indicated a sizeable revolt by Tory backbenchers who joined with Labour in opposing the change.

It is the first Commons defeat for the Conservative administration since it won the May election.’

Would have liked you to be in the SNP in parliament. You would have been a bonus for the movement as an MSP especially. Bringing an international angle to issues that we can too easily avoid because too many in Scotland know fine well that what the punter and the scottish politician thinks counts for fuck all. The unionists are delighted with this arrangement of course, Britain is god. God’s own state keeps the punters from having any real say in how it is run and keeps them as far as possible from having any input into its strategies. Unfortunately, the people who run the fuckin state are lazy and arrogant and when push occasionally comes to fuckin with regard to the direction of British and Scottish politics they need to rely on the traditional media to colour the arguments in favour of elite decision making. That is all they have, no structure and no future if we have decent information to hand. It’s wot won the referendum

  • RobG

Mary, by trying to pander to right wing opinion today (RE: the drone strike in Syria), I think Cameron has made a huge political blunder, a blunder that will eventually finish him off; that is, if economic collapse doesn’t get to him first.

“What is an ideological spectrum when it’s at home?”

I seem to remember CM describing the UK ideological (political) spectrum as ranging from 82 to 87 (or thereabouts).

That was pre-JC (the second coming) of course.

An even worse Sun front page tomorrow.

    WHAM BAM!

Then two circular photos (like bullseyes) of the two men who were killed

The new improved Murdoch outfit. Instead of making things clean, it tarnishes and corrodes.

David Dinsmore is the Sun editor it says. He was. The website is out of date already.

‘On 2 September 2015 Dinsmore was promoted to Chief Operating Officer of News UK, and Tony Gallagher succeeded him as editor of The Sun.[1] Dinsmore will take up his new post “in the coming weeks”.[18]’

The bankster sponsored and selected dear leaders are busy amortising the Syrian refugees. first it wast the gas bills, then it was the electricity bills and now it is the moral obligations. when will they start stipulating refugees who were born on mourn day Thursday, these will have first priority, then next those whose name begins with x, and then ……….

All the while the first Brit has been killed openly and unashamedly just cuz Cam said so! It was the murder of Jean Charles de Menezes whom was purportedly wearing a puffer jacket in the middle of the summer with “wires sticking out”. They are graduating closer to targeting anyone they like to kill openly and without any worries, because Cam says so or tonykins wishes so, etc.

  • Becky Cohen

Talking of Syria, I hear Pope Spanky Franky’s offered to house two families of refugees in the Vatican. So generous, eh?!;)

“trying to pander to right wing opinion today”…

I wonder if that’s an appropriate picture. Isn’t it tradition for every PM to get to get onto a big out of control blood fest ? I wonder how much is personal idealogical fulfillment…

It’s very important business after all, killing people, gives you a real pick up. Pretend like it’s still the 2nd world war and all that, each PM must take his turn ‘defending the country’.

I think the Establishment always vastly spin the ‘right wing’ such as there is, to promote themselves and it. ie Aside from a few fringe nuttres he and his clique are the vanguard…So not pandering to any real base but their own.

  • Ishmael

You’d maybe think Gazans would be all absorbed in their own local struggles and hardship. Massive as they must be. But no.

    Agree Monteverdi, touching…
