Massive Attack on This Blog 296

We are experiencing a Denial of Service Attack on a massive scale. Our extremely experienced tech team – who are serious professionals who come from major IT players – have never defended an attack this big on which someone is spending real resources. The attack is not over, but our various levels of defence and diversion are currently holding.

The attack works simply by getting many tens of thousands of bots from around the world to interrogate the site with queries into its search facility, thus crashing it. It is a type of attack we come under routinely, but never on anything like this kind of scale. This is a proper effort to get the blog off air.

EDIT: Attack ongoing – latest figures.

Further Update: Still going but slowing a bit now.

    Hello Craig,
I am a software engineer from Bulgaria with a lot of experience. I can mirror the blog in my infrastructure a couple of times if you want.
Those fockers are trying to hide the truth as always but not this time. Email me if you want and I can help with the mirrors: [email protected]
Thank you to the British people with open minds. Keep fighting against this scum!

    • Jon

I would suggest that you just go ahead and mirror, as long as your site scrape does not hit Craig’s site too often. Several times in the past, Craig has said that if his articles can be reposted elsewhere, you should just go ahead. I think that probably applies here too.

Of course, if you create a mirror, your new problem is whether new readers can view the material. You may find manual copy-pasting to social media (e.g. Facebook and Reddit) actually gets more people to see the text.

OMG good luck I love reading your comments ! So much reasoned and informed information so rare on many other sites
    Sending support

Are DOS attacks not one of the services Cambridge Analytica offers? What about astroturfing too?

    • J

Very likely. The Russians claim they interdicted chemicals and stopped three chemical attacks in the last week or so.

    • Frank Hocking

No i think the Skripal incident was for real although i would imagine they were given a more potent dose than was ment. The Westminster government lied , they reported that Russia had been making Novichok for the last decade. That was Boris Johnston at his best. that was the first lie. May told the mother of all lies, She said Porto Down, had a sample and they had said it was Novichok. She also said that they had checked it out and found it was manufactured in Russia. that was a blatant lie.Russia asked her for a sample so they could test it. she refused they asked her to send the sample to the OPCW. she refused. The UK like other Countries the UK has a binding treaty obligation
to present that sample to the OPCW. But she can’t she is a liar. Porton Down have stated they could not say what it was. Furthermore. it is my belief ,in some litterature i have it stated that Iran was the Manufacturer of Novichok.in 2016. This government is full of liers. To me they were working with America. They had to creat a distraction big enough to let America move troops and machinery into Syria without Russia knowing. As Trump’s Strategy for Occupying Syria. The next distraction is the Cambridge Analytica’s and UK umbrella company, the SCL Group, This firm continues to have symbiotic ties with the British Foreign Office, which officially wants to exploit the firms success in assisting the Trump campaign for UK foreign policy goals. Mark Turnbull who heads up SCL Elections, the subsidiary company responsible for the firm’s elections work, is a former Bell Pottinger consultant who oversaw Pentagon influences operatoins in Iraq, one of which produced fake al-Qaeda Videos. SCL Elections, were the one reportedly assisted Vote Leave, The SCL Group had not only gamed Facebook to assist the elections of Donald Trump and it seems, the Brexit campaign; they also received $1million(CAD) to support NATO influence operations in Eastern Europe and the Ukraine, Targeting Russia..

FH. Most interesting information. Thx. What used to be called psychological warfare is today “perception management” and “information warfare”. The strategic anti-Russia campaign has many components.

Well, the b#stards are trying their best to put you offline, now you’ve got to ask yourself, why such a major concerted effort to shut you down is underway?

This is what happens when you expose the dark underbelly of the British establishment.

    • Wullie B

That or they David Kelly/ Willie MacRae you into a suitcase then lock the door behind them

    • Sharp Ears

Is de Pfeffel’s underbelly dark? Not like his stupid hair then.

He should be behind bars, like BLiar.

    • lysias

Not just the British establishment. This is the whole Empire that feels threatened. Why would the British establishment go after Latin America?

  • Geoffrey de Galles

Dear Craig, I trust you have no plans to visit Salisbury or its environs in the immediate future; or, if you have, that you will sagely abandon them for the time being. If in the near future you should die of salmonella poisoning at an Edinburgh pizza restaurant, I promise I shall loudly proclaim it, in defence of your legacy, to have been — self-evidently, as only speaks to reason — a novichok attack in revenge for your nefarious activities in Uzbekistan all those years ago. (After all, it’ll be all to much of a coincidence to be a mere fucking coincidence. So the Russians must be behind it.)

  • John Spannyard Indaworks

Congratulations to your team in facing the bastards down. I expect it’s Mossad, MI6, or the CIA.

Must be the Russians: you’re depriving them of their glory disputing their responsibility! Did I really just hear on BBC 4 that Putin’s government is more aggressive than Hitler’s ( ca.1936)?

    • Jon

      Hi Sharp Ears,

Some years ago I asked Craig if a donation button could be installed on the site. He didn’t like the idea, as he felt it created an obligation to write. As it stands, he can take a well-earned rest when he likes, and come back when he likes. Nevertheless, I do agree with you – I’d be happy to kick in some money, with no obligation stated or implied!

  • james

lets hope they give up soon…please take advantage of the valuable suggestions of commenters here on this topic.. it is above my paygrade… great site craig.. keep up the needed work you are doing here!

  • Jon

The search facility is pretty slow in WordPress, and readers probably don’t need it. I’m pleased to see it’s been redirected elsewhere (Google can handle it).

If anyone wants to search this site, they can just use a search engine with a site filter – most of them support that.

  • Laguerre

I’m very impressed by how effective the Cloudfare defences have been, and thanks also to Darth and his fellow technicals for their good work.

  • Monster

Take it as a badge of honour, Craig. The rage of MI5 is bursting at the seams with impotence. A DSA attack is at the limit of the Millbank assassins’ competence so we can laugh it off. Glum faces at St James’ lodge meeting on Tuesday.

  • Arnie Saccnuson

Hold on a minuet, you have attracted a lot attention, it could quite literally be ANYBODY and least likely a government authority or proxy, they have the power to pollute the dns and craigmurray.org.uk just would not resolve. I like your articles and I have bookmarked your blog but dont overplay your hand. I have a server for my front door cam and other “stuff” nothing public facing that keeps getting attacked by France and or the Ukraine and China, it doesn’t mean anything, the identified country of origin is pretty much meaningless its all part of hosting on the internet…..Love your analysis of Novichoks cant wait to see how this all plays out

    • Darth

The attack has been running for several hours and is way above anything this blog has ever experienced before. We’ve had more than five million search requests for random numbers last few hours just from Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela and Columbia and approximately another five million search requests from the rest of the world. These numbers are still climbing.

      • Hmmm

Do these requests count as hits? And if so can you set up ads and get paid for each visit?!

      • saluspopuli.org

        D. Thank you for this update. That this level of attack is unprecedented and timed during the series of blog threads relating to the Skripal affair is noteworthy and gives us context. The Ambassador evidently has hit a very raw nerve of some entity. UK seems most likely to me. Then US. I see, at this time, no motive for Israel or other state actors or for organized crime mafiyas. As the Tories politically are the most exposed and threatened by this affair they could be a possibility. Their perception management and information warfare campaign against Russia is threatened by Ambassador Murray’s independent voice. This extends to same of EU and NATO and US. On the US side, silencing Skripal and his daughter would serve to give cover to Steele, Orbis, and the Pee Dossier used by our Deep State to destabilize and attack our Constitutional processes. Our Deep State arguably has liaison with the UKs.

Cloudfare’s analysis of the attack and its origin will be most interesting although one can understand discretion on the matter. Can Snowden help?

O/T but on the day de Pfeffel likened Putin to Hitler – Putin using the World Cup like Hitler used the Olympic Games.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43487948

his pal Gavin ‘Tarantula’ Williamson slipped in an announcement today that the new 6 F45 destroyers which have been moored up in Portsmouth for months, are to be taken one by one, every four months, to Cammell Laird to be cut open, their two useless diesel engines to be removed and replaced with three new ones. The frigates cost £1bn each. The engine change will cost £280m. As the ships are out of guarantee, the sheeple can pay. This was announced on BBS South Today this evening. HMG would have got a better deal at Tesco.

this is what I wrote on the previous article. The daft question by a FoI Labour MP goading the foreign secretary into agreeing with him that Putin is like Hitler in 1936 amounts to serving a foreign country, not your constituent.

The FoI have been eager and willing from day one of this affair to direct their bile in unison with the PM, none of them should serve on any public body unless they openly declare their first and foremost service the interests of their constituents.

“Alexander Boris de Pelfer Johnson has finallly lost the attention of everyone in Russia by shouting his mouth off today.

To raise such a crass idiotic comparison either means that his dealer is on holiday, or he is trying his best to get fired. Russia lost 27 million people in World war two.

He is a lazy hypocrite of the worst kind as well. unless he’s crap at history, if I recall rightly some 256 county surveyors and politicians were invited to have a peak at the Autobahn, and watch the handshake between Mussollini and Hitler, live in the stadium, they could not resist a freebie at the Olympics. So if anyone has a history of cheering on dictators, not one, but two, its this country.

What can you expect from a braggart posing as a foreign secretary, when he should be building bridges, he’s using hand grenades to blow them up, whatever little is left of trust turns to mist, he is useless and uses his job to appeal and bamboozle this countries subjects/voters, as if he is in a perpetual election.

Is he trying to impress Trump and the new Lynch torture and flog lady at the CIA? does he know where his loyalties should lie?

you are an embarrassment foreign secretary!”

It’s a win win situation for this lot. Build cr*p first time round and then get paid to put things right.

      ’21 Mar 2018
The UK Ministry of Defence has appointed an alliance team led by BAE Systems to deliver its Type 45 Power Improvement Project (PIP).
BAE Systems joined with shipbuilding and conversion specialist Cammell Laird and naval design and technical support expert BMT to win the contract, and today signed a charter on board HMS Diamond along with representatives from the Royal Navy and MoD to celebrate the alliance.

The project will improve resilience in the Royal Navy’s Type 45 Destroyer power and propulsion system by replacing the existing two diesel generators, fitting an additional diesel generator and modifying the high voltage system on each ship. The alliance has drawn on each member’s expertise across the defence and commercial sectors, and draws on proven power and propulsion capability and over 30 years of unique Type 45 design, build and support experience.

David Mitchard, Managing Director, BAE Systems Maritime Services, said: “We are immensely proud to support the Royal Navy’s Type 45 fleet whether at home or on deployment around the world. By combining the collective knowledge, experience and skills of BAE Systems, Cammell Laird and BMT we are demonstrating our commitment to present a robust technical solution with an innovative commercial alliance. Our aim is to rapidly restore command confidence in the power and propulsion system of the Type 45 fleet, demonstrate value for money and safeguard vital skills for future generations of warship support.”.

You are a voice crying in the wilderness, Craig Murray. That should make you cry even louder. We look forward to you simply pointing out inconsistencies and illogicallities in the media. You don’t say ” I know better than anyone” You always leave it to us to use your info to confirm or refure our preconceptions. I wish you well and hope you can withstand the haters and the IT attacks.

You must be something right Craig if people are working this hard to silence you. Well done, there are a lot of people who appreciate your diligence and integrity.

To everyone who posts comments on this blog. It is pretty obvious that whether it is Labour or Torries holding the power, nothing actually changes, especially regarding foreign policy. I have the feeling that there are plenty of educated and well informed people here. Is there no one with enough knowledge to give it a go at forming a new party in England. Many will follow.

    • John

“It is pretty obvious that whether it is Labour or Torries holding the power, nothing actually changes, especially regarding foreign policy.”

I understand your frustrations Ivan. But your comment itself contains the kernel of your answer. You cannot get meaningful change in the present system – which is why we (educated and well informed people) in Scotland are so determined to achieve independence.

      Perfidious Albion is unreformable.

    Christopher Steele

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/mar/21/christopher-steele-anti-trump-dossier-author-be-de/?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=socialnetwork

A London court on Wednesday ordered Christopher Steele, author of the anti-Trump dossier, to submit to questions from American attorneys suing him for libel on behalf of a Russian entrepreneur.

The British senior master, however, limited the scope. They will not be able to ask Mr. Steele about his Russian sources, who, if exposed, the order said, could face arrest and death at the hands of Vladimir Putin’s regime.

Mr. Gubarev has sued Mr. Steele and his Orbis Business Intelligence, in the London court, but the rules are different.

In the U.S., he is trying to prove that what BuzzFeed published is false.

In the London case, Mr. Steele’s attorneys are not arguing that the December memo is true.

The order states, “In the [Queen’s Bench] proceedings the key issue is whether Mr Steele/Orbis were responsible for the publication of the defamatory statement. Thus, the factual enquiry in the English proceedings will not focus on the truth or falsity of the defamatory allegation which is presumed to be false, and the QB Defendants have not contended otherwise. (This is contrary to the position in the Florida proceedings where the US Plaintiffs have the burden of proving that the allegations are false). “

There is no intention by UK courts to focus on truth or falsity but for the Florida proceedings to prove falsehood. And yet more finger pointing towards Russia – for explicitly suggesting that Mr Steele’s Russian sources would be killed were he to reveal them. Sort of trying to suggest that ‘sources’ must exist if the threat is understood that they would be killed if revealed – so they must be real and not made up or that threat would not exist – that only the UK courts have suggested must be present, and therefore real – if they are under attack ! Eh?

Something has gone seriously wrong in UK in recent years in turning the presumption of innocence on its head.

    • Sagittarius Rising

‘Something has gone seriously wrong in UK in recent years in turning the presumption of innocence on its head’.

I am not sure that is what I meant to conclude with.

What I intended to say is – how come UK gov now takes the view that making an allegation is ‘acceptable’ until such time as it is able to be proven as false?

  • Golubitsa

Honestly, what is wrong with this piece of scum Boris & Co? Now they are repeating his Hitler comparison all over MSM. Do they have an idea that the’re insulting Russian people, whole Russian nation, ordinery people? How, just how can the get away with it?
Craig, i cannot express my gratitude enough to you!
    Huge thank you!
