Kabul Attack 42

I am very sorry to hear of the attack on the British Council office in Kabul. I do hope that, as details of the dead and injured start to come in, the count does not rise higher, whoever they are, and that the British Council staff are safe. I am a great believer in the contribution of cultural diplomacy in international peace and understanding, even if I do not support every detail of the British Council.

But this attack does represent, yet again, the folly of the occupation of Afghanistan. It has reinforced old anti-British sentiment dating back to our first invasion of 1839 and a series since. It will be generations before we might be forgiven our bombings, and I can guarantee you that the British Council will not be able to maintain any effective operation in Kabul after our troops slink away defeated.

The British Council opening there at all is empty bravado that has now cost lives.

@Mary, Israel’s aim is to push Palestinians into the sea, you see they have not grab enough land yet..
They will get their comeuppance one day, hopefully not in the too distant future. Their best friend is bankrupt and it is only the matter of time that USA will not be able to afford propping them up, in fact USA will need propping up. The house of cards!

Is anyone going to do something about Israel’s flagrant disregard of human life? Children are being slaughtered and parents have nowhere to run to escape. Israel has the entire population of Gaza under siege and there is no safe haven for the Palestinians.
Collective punishment directly contravenes Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, and is identified a war crime. How big must the numbers be before journalists will have the courage to write and editors to publish what Israel is doing again with impunity in violation of international law?

An e-mail just in to a friend in East Anglia who Ameera calls Mum. Bless Ameera and all the other mummies and children there.
    .
    Hi mum,
    .
Airstrikes in almost everywhere in Gaza Strip; the north, south, middle and Gaza city.
    .
it is terrifying Mum. Every night, I don’t want to fall asleep and then wake up terrified over a loud explosion! I prefer to wait until it happens so I can sleep well afterwards! My children always wake up feeling very bad and crying when hearing the explosion. Great panic! I am very terrified. There are children killed or injured in every israeli strike on Gaza. it’s a war not escalation.
    .
Doctors in Gaza say that Israel uses @internationally banned weapon in Gaza which causes great damage in bodies.
    .
    Pray to Gaza
    .
    May Allah save us all
    Your loving Daughter,
    Ameera

*She is referring either to depleted uranium weaponry or to cluster bombs or to white phosphorus all of which Israel has used on the people of Gaza in the past.

Al-Jazeera reported that an Israeli drone attack on a civilian car in Gaza City killed three Palestinians including a five-year-old boy. Three people including a woman were reportedly injured.
    .
Effective jamming of the military encrypted GPS signal to ‘confuse’ drones operating as a role management hierarchy is possible using high power dual frequency Gaussian noise phase adjusted jamming on both L1 AND L2 GPS frequencies disrupting P(Y) and M code lock with signal energy shaping.
    .
With increased reliance on armed ‘killer drones’ it is important to continually study ways of defeating these grotesque flying machines including the use of anti-drone drones themselves working as a team to detect and destroy anything with an ‘foreign’ signature that is intermittently transmitting synchronous state and/or rendezvous information.

  • Suhayl Saadi

Manipulate the signal, spin the machine around and send the drone at high speed right back to its control centre in Langley (or its Israeli equivalent) – something I suggested awhile back. The boomerang effect. A valid act of self-defence.

  • Suhayl Saadi

Mary, that is a deeply moving e-mail – thanks very much for sharing it – definitely put it up on all media sites you can access and send it widely to the MSM, including the tabloids, as well (just in case it gets through).

  • Azra

Mary, the e-mail brought tears to my eye.
When Kuwait was invaded we were there,I remember how terrified my kids were and that was hearing the tanks and noise of bullets from a block away. After so many years they are still bearing the scars of that experience and our subsequent flee in middle of the night from Kuwait and leaving they called home.
I cannot imagine what Palestinians feel, what scars they bear, what weight they carry.. They are pushed into a a corner and have been left with nothing to live for. Is there any surprises that they become suicide bombers??

  • Suhayl Saadi

Well, Cherie Blair once said the same thing and was pilloried. I have not time for her, and she probably said it to curry favour with rich Arab regimes, etc. Nonetheless, you get the drift.
    .
    Sounds terrifying, Azra.

  • Azra

Suhayl, I was terrified .. imagine driving 300 km , taking 24 hours, 100 of it going through Iraq..going through numerous check point with no passport. I do not know whether I would have done it, leaving a much loved husband behind.. I am not sure I would have done it if it were not for the kids, but my point is what a Palestinian would feel and react. My experience was nothing and I mean absolutely nothing to what a mother, a father, or a kid would go through in Gaza today. I feel it for them with all my heart..
