Only Sweat the Small Stuff 922

I was called by a journalist yesterday who told me that in Dewsbury six years ago I shared a platform with Baroness Warsi’s now husband at a meeting against the persecution of Muslims. Sadly I couldn’t really help him as at the time I was doing hundreds such events and have only the dimmest of recollections of that one.

It is not merely amusing that Cameron refers Warsi for investigation for allegedly pocketing a couple of thousand quid while protecting Hunt who tried so hard to shepherd the Murdoch BSkyB bid past the winning post, while pretending to referee the event.

Nor is the lesson just that a Muslim woman will always be expendable while a fully paid up member of the ruling class will be less so.

The truth is that to trip up an MP over a little cash does not threaten the system. To tackle the massive institutional corruption by which corporate interests control the British state is a different question altogether.

Hunt is of course not the only case not to be referred. Nor was the Adam Werritty debacle, where rather than the proper investigative procedures Cameron organised a tidy little stitch-up by Gus O’Donnell which omitted almost all the key facts and particularly did not say what the entire scheme was about – the promotion of the interests of Israel. The Murdoch Empite, the Israeli lobby, these are amongst the interests that actually run the exploited citizenry of this poor wracked old country. Every now and then glimpses of truth emerge.

But must not be pursued.

The laugh is that HM ERII is opening a new PFI hospital in Enniskillen today.

Note the flat roofs. Ideal for a wet climate. This grandeur for a relatively small population and well away from a major conurbation.

Along with Henry Kissinger and Dick Cheney*, Niall Ferguson will be speaking here next year:

Founded in 2002, Global ARC is a network of the world’s foremost pension funds, endowments, sovereign wealth funds and asset managers focused on the intersection of macro-economic developments, capital markets, and alternative investments. Meetings are held annually in Boston, London and Asia to discuss both regional and global issues facing institutional investors. All gatherings are held strictly off-the-record with no media in attendance.

Only $11,000 odd (registration fee) to hear him and these. Not a Gentile in sight.

A notoriously racist rabbi who called on Israel to slaughter a million Palestinian civilians is to head a committee for Magen David Adom (MDA) – Israel’s equivalent of the Red Cross.

Cast your minds back a few days. The rich were in the firing line over tax avoidance. Cameron’s own father was in the firing line for his “morally repugnant” behaviour. Then came the “plan” to slash benefits for just about everyone. Now the tax avoidance story has vanished in the furore. Job done.

Have just glanced through this list which is probably the tip of the iceberg, Some of the names have changed since 2010, eg Chief Medical Officer. I was looking to see what Jonathan Evans MI5 receives.
    .
I was struck by the number of those connected to the Olympics (15), both the Delivery Authority and the Legacy Company and the high salaries paid. Even a director of property.

Anyone seen the Muslim Brotherhood representative, on France 24 refusing to talk to the isreali journo, and asking for an explanation from the French reporter as to why he was not informed about this journo taking part in the same show?
    ,
French presenter asking him why don’t you want to talk to the others?
Was responded to with a firm “because I don’t want to”!

Komodo – unctuous – love that word not new I know but one that deserves to be used more – so many possibilities.
It’s the second time in as many days that I have come across it. Here’s the first:
The poet in his lone yet genial hour
Gives to his eyes a magnifying power:
Or rather he emancipates his eyes
From the black shapeless accidents of size–
In unctuous cones of kindling coal,
Or smoke upwreathing from the pipe’s trim bole,
    His gifted ken can see
    Phantoms of sublimity.
    Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

27 June: Independent: UK ready to take on Israel over fate of children clapped in irons
Report funded by Foreign Office details claims of routine abuse for Palestinian youths
In the first investigation of its kind, a team of nine senior legal figures examined how Palestinians as young as 12 were treated when arrested. Their shocking report Children in Military Custody details claims that youngsters are dragged from their beds in the middle of the night, have their wrists bound behind their backs, and are blindfolded and made to kneel or lie face down in military vehicles.
Children from the West Bank are held in conditions that could amount to torture, such as solitary confinement, with little or no access to their parents. They can be forced to stay awake before being verbally as well as physically abused and coerced into signing confessions they cannot read.
The team – led by Sir Stephen Sedley, a former Court of Appeal judge – heard that “every Palestinian child is treated like a potential terrorist”…

Fair enough Oddie but the FCO did not need to raise a team of lawyers to witness the atrocities committed by the Israelis. They only had to consult Gerard Horton of Defence of the Child Internbational. viz

Was listening blearily to some nebbie on R4 earlier (could have been Junt) explaining that people linked to human rights abuses would be barred from “our” Olympics, but skating delicately round the question of who that might be. The Syrian Olympics committee chairman was mentioned, true, but I waited in vain for any mention of the Israeli one. Maybe I missed it while making a cup of coffee? And Uzbekistan?
    .
Still, nice to know everything is going to be as secure as the US, Israeli and UK security industry can be paid to make it, and that there may even be an opportunity for arms sales if the benighted foreigners will just look upwards and see the hardware on offer.

Advanced facial and image recognition software will be used to identify suspects and connect multiple crime scenes. Cameras will be used to capture suspicious behavior. And special drones will be used for crowd surveillance, according to a salesman at an Israeli company who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

This is about the health trust whose new hospital was opened by the Queen yesterday.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-17915570
    .
The new hospital has one patient per room on three floors. Bad for the sister in charge and for patient care. In a Nightingale ward, lower staffing levels are possible rather than having nurses chasing around answering buzzers. A sister can view all the patients in the ward and can easily judge if a patient needs urgent attention.

    .
The new hospital is also ripe for BUPArisation when its PFI debt becomes unpayable.

Did you hear Agent Cameron being heckled at a volunteer cheerleader gathering at the Berlin Olympics yesterday? He just about kept his temper under control. The eyes went glassy.
    .
David Cameron heckled by Olympic volunteer for ‘crippling the poor’
An ominous sign of trouble ahead for the Olympics emerged yesterday after David Cameron was heckled by an official London 2012 volunteer during a speech to mark a month-to-go to the event.

My word! This girl needs to get out more.
    .
‘Earlier Mr Cameron rolled up his sleeves to help hand out some of the uniforms.
    .
A stunned Mairead McMahon, 19, of Lurgan, Northern Ireland, had already excitedly telephoned her mother Anne at home to say she could see Lord Coe when Mr Cameron handed her a polo shirt.
    .
Ms McMahon, who will be working at Wembley Arena during the Olympics, said picking up her uniform would now be one of her “big-time memories” of working at London 2012.
    .
She said: “I have never been out of Ireland. This is my first time of going anywhere on my own. I thought I was going to come and get my uniform and then, bang, Seb Coe and David Cameron were there.
    .
“Today it really did sink in. Coming and seeing everybody in their hundreds, if not thousands, shows it is going to be just amazing.”‘

That one almost got under the radar. Elevation, 100m, range 1.5 Km, bearing, hard to say as it’s the Lib Dems….fire.

Mr Lamb then took the information to Nick Clegg who was “horrified” by what he had to say.

“We will lose the only papers who have been positive,” the MP quoted him as saying.

So is the New New Labour Workfare power base to include Mr. Lebedev? And will there be parties at the Orangery this year after all?

Rose, one wonders what Coleridge had in his pipe….

Thanks for that Oddie and Mary, indeed, since 1979 the plight of incarcerated Palestinian children has been mentioned and nothing has changed, bar the handcuffs that got more ‘sophisticated’, sic, what a slimy word really.
I also saw Chloe’s awe full performance, but she is put up there to get her groomed properly. This includes getting into the ring with paxoidal presenters and hyperbore’s, so in future she knows how to fold her legs and look prim in the line of fire.
Good looking meeting at the United reform church in Wymondham on the 14th. July. Cllr. Gardiner ind. will try and enthuse some youngsters i back to basic democracy, away from the main parties. who knows who will turn up and what this might mean for Norfolk’s county council elections next year.
I very much hope that others from the KLWIN campaign will turn up and do as they said they would do. I will defenitely be there and try my best to get an Alliance of Independents together, maybe with a mutually agreed ten point plan, who knows….

As the Joint Strike Fighter project goes horribly wrong (the Chinese are close to having a working version, if you want one), a familiar name pops out of the news vacuum…
    Hansard, Jun 11th 2012:
Nick Smith: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will investigate whether Mr Adam Werritty was present at any meetings between (a) Ministers and (b) officials in his Department and representatives from Lockheed Martin to discuss the carrier variant of the Joint Strike Fighter. [109617]

Mr Philip Hammond: We have no records of any departmental meetings about the carrier variant of the Joint Strike Fighter involving Mr Werritty, Ministers and Lockheed Martin.

Equally, I am not aware that Mr Werrity ever attended any meeting on the carrier variant between officials and Lockheed Martin, although it is not possible to provide a definitive response to the question regarding officials within the Ministry of Defence without incurring disproportionate cost.
    .
I suppose records or a straight answer might be a bit much to ask for; still, the question had to be asked.

  • Komodo

Just to define “disproportionate” when applied to the cost of digging up something which is probably embarrassing…it’s anything over 30p.

off course Mary, we are seemingly going the same way than the not so united States, where Florida’s poor voters a de-registered en mass. The electoral registration documents get always delivered on a Sunday here in Norfolk, its a great wheeze for some private bods running around charging mega bucks for the job.

Whats wrong with supporting the post office and how can it possibly cost more to deliver it via the normal post?
