The Depth of Anti-Scottish Racism 54

An obnoxious D list celebrity seeks publicity by jibes about “sweaty little jocks” bringing ebola to England, in response to the plight of a selfless healthcare worker. Beneath our notice. But what is not only notable but cries out to be most carefully considered is the existence of thousands of readers in the Daily Mail comments section piling in to register their support, not for the stricken nurse but for the racist “celeb”. Look at the comments here and sort them by “best rated”. The result is staggering.

The comment “I’m not surprised, sounds like she’s speaking the truth” has 3,619 recommends and is the most popular comment.

It is an appalling reflection of English society today. Just as the kowtowing of the mainstream media and political parties to the UKIP agenda has returned “respectability” to casual racism, so the unionist referendum victory has emboldened popular anti-Scottish racism, which manifests itself in even the most tasteless of imaginable circumstances.

    Craig,

Most of my genes are Scottish. I got married in Scotland, but unlike most of your posters, I cannot post on your website, unless my post has been approved by one of your moderators, or I use a different IP address.

Whilst I do understand why, I still find it just a little bit offensive..but I wouldn’t use the term racist…though you probably think I am.

Well, firstly if that were true, it’s news to me, and secondly it doesn’t appear to be true as your comment has appeared immediately. Thirdly, your and anyone else’s ethnicity is completely irrelevant to your being welcome to comment.

You posts might have a better chance of getting past the mods if you spent less time talking about your various girlfriends and your wife (including how you jizz on the latter’s belly).

  • CanSpeccy

First four comments on the DM article refute your claim.

    (1) She must be still “sampling” the Christmas Cheer and has tipsy mouth.

    (2) Get well soon Pauline, from all the decent people in England!

    (3) Might of known the close[t] racist and xenophobes on this site agree with it. Red arrow all you want. It will prove my point.

    (4) What a lot of nonsense, it’s no different to sending a patient to France, USA, Czech Republic for specialist treatment. Would’ve been the same independent or not.

A case of an unreasonable charges of racism being itself racist.

  • Patrick Roden

    @canspeccy, eh?

The very fact that this c list celebraty is able to publish this nonsense about Scots but would never be allowed to do the same with Moslems/Asians/Chinese/ etc etc etc, shows a deep seated anti-Scottish racism that egsists in English society.

    No point in denying it.

    Habbabkuk (La Vita È Bell”A),

Blimey, you’ve got a good memory.

    That was 34 years ago.

I didn’t want to get your daughter pregnant.

Tony_0pmoc has been on pre-moderation for a while in response to other commenters’ complaints about his late night off-topic double-spaced ramblings, some quite graphically sexual.

Don’t be an idiot. You find 4 out of 1,000 comments and claim I am wrong. I instructed you to sort the comments by “Best rated”. The comment “I’m not surprised, sounds like she’s speaking the truth” has 3,619 recommends and is the most popular comment. Have amended post to reflect this.

  • Tony_0pmoc

    Moderator,

I have never posted anything graphically sexual in my life anywhere, except once, and that was a mistake. It definitely wasn’t here. It was only up for a few seconds and I quickly deleted it…before anyone saw it. And it was just normal anyway. Are you trying to tell me you haven’t done that lad?

    And you don’t like paragraphs?

    Blimey.

I’m sure you’ll be over it by the morning, Craig. I mean, we’re used to the bien-pensants regularly getting their knickers in a twist over a newspaper 1% of the public reads, but the comments section? Seriously, stay off the internet if this sort of thing offends you.

  • CanSpeccy

    @ CM:

Don’t be an idiot. You find 4 out of 1,000 comments and claim I am wrong.

The first four out of a thousand. So what are the odds that the other 996 commenters are are anti-Scotch racists? LOL

Of course there are English people pissed off with anglophobic scotch racists who prate about independence, while driving Scotland into the arms of the EU and NATO.

But are you saying that, yourself apart, there are no SNP Anglophobes? Presumably not, so what’s so interesting about the fact that there’s some English reaction, from people who, except for the SNP, wouldn’t give Scotland or the Scotch the slightest thought?

“The unionist referendum victory has emboldened popular anti-Scottish racism”

I think tensions were running pretty high on both sides and there has certainly been a lot of anti-English sentiment in Scotland for a long time. Water off a duck’s back. Try to use the word “racism” where it’s actually warranted, Craig, otherwise you debase it still further.

  • Republicofscotland

Yes Craig it is rather disturbing, but I’m willing to bet their are far more decent and good people south of the border than Paul Dacre’s gutter rag comment section attracts.

Katie Hopkins has form when it comes to “Foot in Mouth” scenario’s, does anyone take her seriously anymore? I very much doubt it.

Of course Kelvin Mackenzie, and Simon Schama, may well see her in a more favourable light.

Those who do not wish to enjoy Tony O’s contributions
can quickly and easily scroll past them.
I find him entertaining and amusing, usually, FWIW.

  • Tony_0pmoc

You see, I do notice these things. Craig is just a normal bloke like the rest of us…except he has a bit more courage..than most. Sure, he’s going to feel a bit down at the moment…So Give Him a Good New Year….be nice to him..he does his best.

    He’s a Good Man.

    On Being Happy But Anxious

It is 3.42am in London and I have just left Nadira in the Labour Ward of the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The midwife estimated that baby will make an appearance in between two.and eight hours. I am not allowed to stay with Nadira, which seems peculiar, but they will call me back if anything seems imminent. Otherwise I can return at ward visiting hours at ten.

Things started over 24 hours ago, so I had very little sleep last night. I now don’t want to go to sleep unless they call and I don’t wake.

I feel full of energy and – strangely – youth at the moment. The last two nights I did extremely good public meetings with the Global Justice Group in Halesowen

    http://www.myspace.com/halesowengjg

and for Medical Justice in Manchester.

    http://www.medicaljustice.org.uk/

They were vibrant and full meetings – the collection for Medical Justice afterwards raised over three hundred pounds for their Manchester branch. One of the things cheering me up is that I took a look through my engagements and realised I have raised tens of thousands for good causes at meetings over the last five years. It relieves the fear that my life has been wasted.

But what really cheers me up is the fact that there are so many good, informed and active people out there. I really must do more of this.

Holding up the nutters who add extremist comments to DM articles as representative of English society is as daft as suggesting that the SNP speak for Scotland on independence.

  • Hector

The comment “I’m not surprised, sounds like she’s speaking the truth” has 3,619 recommends and is the most popular comment.

It is an appalling reflection of English society today.

Or perhaps it’s a cunning ploy by the Scots Nats dirty tricks department to make it look like “an appalling reflection of English society today.”
After all, we’re in conspiracy theory territory here.

  • Iain Hill

She must be very D list. I have never even heard her name. My only consolation is that people like that tend to hit the buffers full speed without any external intervention.

If she has an accident I hope she gets the best care available, but you cannot push NHS staff too far!

  • Herbie

Being obnoxious is Katie Hopkins’s career.

    It’s what she does.

    She’s a female Clarkson.

Great money for being a moronic scumbag.

“Holding up the nutters who add extremist comments to DM articles as representative of English society is as daft as suggesting that the SNP speak for Scotland on independence.”

And a little racist in itself, if the author wants to play that game.

  • Herbie

    It ain’t racist.

Bigotry is the term you’re looking for.

You know, like your mates in UKIP.

She is a talking head who should be ignored. Having said that I don’t understand how her abominable comments about the Palestinians escaped censure.

Also Craig remember you have thousands of supporters. You were responsible for a surge of new Yes voters—-They seem to have forgotten that.

  • Galen Milne

I’m 100% Scottish born and bred. I voted NO because I firmly believe (and now even more firmly believe ) Scotland is better off as part of the union of nations encapsulated within the UK. I find this kind of commentary destructive between the civilised population within our islands so suggest Craig Murray shuts the f**k up.
