Werritty’s Chum Matthew Gould Took Janner to Kindergarten 70

Adam Werritty’s friend and long term contact, the British Ambassador to Israel, Matthew Gould, accompanied Greville Janner to visit a kindergarten in Israel in 2012, which was named in Janner’s honour. I wonder if the government of Israel will now change the name?

The irony of naming a kindergarten after Janner is extraordinary. But is it not strange that in 2012, when Janner’s activities had been known to the authorities for decades, Matthew Gould was accompanying him to a kindergarten of all places? Is the Foreign Office really that dense? It is also not normal for an Ambassador to accompany an opposition Lord around in this way.

I could not help but be struck by the link below the last linked piece, to an article by Greville Janner entitled “My Friend Michael Jackson“.

    And heh again.

(Lord Janner) always felt that the war crimes investigations in the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust did not go far enough. “There was nobody who pushed it, there were other things to do,” he says. But he says that just because it did not happen then, is no reason war criminals should not be hunted down today.

When Sobibor guard John Demjanjuk was found guilty of war crimes at the age of 91, Lord Janner expressed the view that “no concessions to age or the time that has passed can be made when it comes to justice for crimes of this magnitude”.

As you mention Matthew Gould it is incumbent upon me to point out that three major western ambassadors to Israel last year were Jews. This never used to be the way embassies worked was it Craig?

Remember too that last year saw the terrible genocide in Palestine. Any connection? I wonder.

Gould, appointed at the beginning of Cameron’s tenure, leaves in July. Replacement is David Quarrey.

Sky say Janner developed Alzheimer’s Disease in 2009. So how come he’s trotting around Israel three years later. Did he have a nurse to look after him like old Mr Grace in Are You Being Served?

His family are defending him today presumably including his daughter, Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner, often heard on Radio 4’s Thought for the Day and a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism.

When someone suspected of such serious crimes has dementia, I’m not sure much can be done about it while he lives. If anyone said anything that could adversely affect his reputation, they could be sued for libel, presumably by those having the power of attorney, since he he is innocent till proved guilty under the law. That is is impossible since he is incapable of being tried. Therefore it looks as though someone in that position will escape punishment during this life, though thereafter, particularly as victims come forward, public bodies that are convinced of his guilt may well cut him off.

Gould was rewarded for the 3/11 fiascoes, going on toTehran, and then to Tel Aviv as Ambassador.

What does one have to do to be written off as a failure in the UK?

Abe, which judge would imprisons 20 of his victims for libel, should they all dare to speak out in public? now that a trial of this ‘sufferer above the law’ is impossible.

And how can he sue for libel if he himself has no way of understanding what a reputation is any longer?

Tony Blair – sometimes called Tony Bliar, a far more fitting spelling – the man who brought in the Freedom of Information Act – claimed he wanted “open” government.

Yet, when his 16 year old daughter Kathryn attempted suicide on or around 13th May 2004, he and his chaps went to the editors of the main British newspapers and had all reporting of the attempted suicide barred from publication because it was a solely personal, private matter.

Rupert Murdoch barred publication of any reporting of the incident in any of his newspapers worldwide; I do wonder what sort of political payback he could expect for doing that.

It remains one of many stories known by but not reported in the UK media. Many people who knew about the attempted suicide at the time agreed and still agree with the blanket non-reporting of the fact it happened.

Blair also threw a D-Notice over operation “Ore”
Which could have implicated several politicians in unsavoury acts, involving minors.

But Blair’s ability as PM to stifle the press, and halt investigations, on certain matters, is a legacy that David Cameron can and will use, to the benefit,of the Westminster elite.

    Janner being a prime example.

If someone is suspected of a crime but has a mental defence then I had thought they were prosecuted and their brief ran the mental health argument in their defence. Isn’t that what usually happens?

I gather from the tone of your post that you don’t think it was a solely personal and private matter. Have I read you correctly?

You must differentiate between (mental) fitness to stand trial and mental condition as an exculpatory factor during a trial.

  • Habbabkuk (la vita è bella)

mental condition at the time of the alleged offence (just to be absolutely clear)

  • fool

Fair point Habba I didn’t think that through. Who usually determines whether someone has mental capacity to stand trial – is that the CPS or the trial Judge?

I thought your comment as to whether there might be a pt prosecution a good one too.

Two things first, there were contentious issues surrounding her attemptec suicide, that became inflated due to the lack of public information.

Secondly and by the the most important aspect of the matter, what made Tony Blair think that he could weild such power as to silence the press.

This opens up even more questions, why did the press agree to such a request, was there unusual circumstances to the attempted suicide that could’ve damaged Blair.

What recompense did Murdoch, and the rest of the press recieve for staying shtum.

Finally was the publics interests impinged in any way, by the silencing of the press and media by Blair.

I’ve started up a petition for them to change it to The Blessed Craig Murray Bleeding Heart School of the Immaculate Misconception:)

Btw Craig, I’ve heard the lap dancing clubs in Tel Aviv are pretty raunchy!;)

    Statement from the DPP 16/04/2015

•In relation to the allegations investigated in Operation Enamel, the CPS considers that the evidential test was passed on the basis that the evidence is sufficient to have warranted charging and prosecuting Lord Janner in relation to the particular charges listed below; these relate to nine individuals:

    •14 indecent assaults on a male under 16 between 1969 and 1988
    •2 indecent assaults between 1984 and 1988
•4 counts of buggery of a male under 16 between 1972 and 1987
•2 counts of buggery between 1977 and 1988.

•In relation to the other three previous investigations, the CPS also now considers that the evidential test was passed. It follows that the CPS judges that mistakes were made in the decision making at the time by both the Leicestershire police in 2002 and the CPS in 1991 and 2007. Lord Janner should have been prosecuted in relation to those complaints.

In the light of the comments from the DPP above, I don’t find your levity about renaming a kindergarten in Israel that is named after Lord Greville Janner very amusing. Particularly the reference to “Bleeding Heart”.

Not sure if this was missed – Gould’s replacement, Quarrey, was for a while Tony Blair’s private secretary, and advised him on the ME. Definitely a Good Egg and a Safe Pair of Hands, then.

My guess is that he’ll convert, make aliyeh, and conclude his career in the Knesset…

  • Ba'al Zevul

    Bugger the excuses.

“…no concessions to age or the time that has passed can be made when it comes to justice for crimes of this magnitude”. (Greville Janner, supporting Simon Wiesenthal Centre’s pursuit of war criminals)

Sauce for goose =sauce for gander.

“His family are defending him today presumably including his daughter,”

This is what families do regardless of their political beliefs or religion. Strangely enough I don’t remember Mary, Craig or John Goss going on about Cyril Smith’s connections to the Unitarian Church or Savile’s connections to the Catholic Church.

Lord Janner’s hobbies include autograph collections, glass and other antiquities and swimming. He speaks nine languages and is a member of the Magic Circle and also the International Brotherhood of Magicians

On the same page is Janner’s 2013 tribute to Mrs Thatcher. Looks pretty damn lucid to me.

This calls for a scientific experiment, if a scan was not called for or part of the mental assessment.
If someone would address him in a different language on his next visit to Palestine, lets say Hungarian, then he would be very confused, irritated. Follow that up with some Arabic and then French, he must surely look anxiously for his minders.

On the other hand if these are students at Ben Gurion trying to find out his state of mind, god beware such insolence, he might actually feel enticed to answer.

best keep him away from opportunities to show off, whatever it is.
