Will Sir Peter Gibson Live to Inquire? 69

William Hague today is giving a speech saying that he wishes to “Draw a line” under the question of UK complicity in torture. It is hard to do that when the intelligence services remain today complicit in torture. The British government still gets intelligence from torture from Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen, Egypt, Jordan, Gambia, Afghanistan and numrous other spots. It remains their contention that it is not illegal to do so provided that three conditions are met: they do not do the torture themselves, they do not ask for the torture to be done, and they do not use the resulting “intelligence” in court proceedings – rather than to assassinate people, detain them without trial, hand them over to another country for more torture or ruin their lives through control orders.

I have written before about the farce of having Sir Peter Gibson, the former Commissioner of the Intelligence Services, conduct an “independent” investigation into UK complicity in torture, while Gus O’Donnell, the biggest liar in the country, will decide what can and what cannot be published. Now the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Mendez, has added his voice to the many condemnations of this farcial procedure.

I am going to give evidence to the inquiry, but a key part of the government’s plan is for the inquiry never to actually happen. It has been decided that numerous legal cases and pretend police investigations have to conclude before the inquiry can start – for no real reason I can see. There is, quite literally, no timescale and I am told not necessarily in this parliament. I worry in case Sir Peter Gibson, who was born in 1935, doesn’t live long enough actually to get going. I was born in 1958, and given the glacial rate of progress – indeed absolutely none is visible to the naked eye – I may not live long enough either.

Yet another total betrayal by the coalition government.

Oh come on, Gus O’Donnell a bigger liar than Blair? Or if Blair’s out of the country, than Cameron?
    .
The idea of not using torture evidence in court is so self-serving. If it can’t be used in court, it ought to follow that if you challenge their control orders or whatever, they back down because they can’t defend them. What it really means is that can’t be used in court, therefore you can’t challenge it.
    .
A preposterous and sickening state of affairs.

The three conditions aren’t even met.

The British police and army, can and do torture Muslims.
In most cases we don’t find out about it.
When we do, they deny it.
    Call it slander.
And use every means at hand to prevent it going to court.
If it does, and it is proven in a court of law. They say it was an isolated incident committed by a bad apple.
And a little compensation is given to one person or another at best.
And then they learn from their mistakes and try to conceal their torture better in future.

They can and do ask for people to be tortured. Because they is the very reason why people are sent to torture chambers, by the British.
Who interview them and question them before, during and after torture.

And evidence obtained is used in trails, so are confessions.
It is just claimed such evidence was obtained voluntarily.
And it isn’t always possible for those convicted to prove it was obtained by torture.

William Hague might want to draw a line, and say “don’t mention the torture we did any more”, but we shouldn’t.
I bet every criminal says the same every time they commit a crime.
Not many say, “I will do it again” when question about it?

I confess the biggest liar in the country is hyperbole. How about “a very accomplished liar indeed”.

“while Gus O’Donnell, the biggest liar in the country,”
    .
    .
actually the biggest liar in the country is the corporate media.

“..ruin their lives through control orders.” – Focuses the mind back to the incompetent Theresa May and ‘T-Pims’ – is that Theresa’s fav drink?
    .
No quite, it is ‘control orders lite.’ Tags and curfews are still de rigeur and yes you can access the web but only after declaring your password to who? MI5 I guess! – Absolute bollocks that will continue one of the worst legacies of the ‘war on terror’ – punitive sanctions imposed on potentially innocent individuals without them ever being charged, prosecuted or sentenced for any crime.
    .
Lets remind ourselves of this cheap makeover:
    .
On the basis of secret evidence individuals could be tagged and forced to remain within their home under overnight curfews; have restrictions placed on the use of mobile phones, the internet or talking to named people; and prevented from working in certain jobs or travelling overseas. Failing to comply would generally be a crime punishable by up to five years in prison.
    .
The Bill has reached Committee stage and should now be scrapped as seriously undermining human rights.

Billy fourteen pints has had a couple more than he ought to have, hence he is drawing lines, and using an industrial size mop to sweep the dirty open secret use of torture; physical, as well as psychological (these leave very few outward signs), in the way of political suppression.
    ,
Babar Ahmed has been jailed for seven years, no trials, and no signs of any judicial ruling, and as yet still in prison. The Gitmo concentration camp survivors; whom have been instructed to keep mum, and not to dare to commit to so much as a harsh sigh, that goes for the Bagram, and plethora of other black concentration camp survivors.
    ,
In all as per the estimates of Wapo (Washington Post) a renowned; lefty, socialist, Marxist, poo pants outlet!!!!!!! Carried an article in which openly estimated the numbers of Muslim prisoners caught up in the web of war of terror, to number about five hundred thousands souls, dispersed across the globe.
    ,
It is good to be the king Billy of Pints, hence he can draw as many lines as he can, but who the hell is going to take any note?
    ,
    Craig,
You need to adopt a better life style so that you can be alive, and give the evidence they don’t want you to blurt out. You owe it to the poor retched souls who were tortured, and their cries were never heard by anyone other than themselves.

It all goes a lot deeper than this. Even 10 years ago before the Iraq War started most of our Government institutions had been corrupted to varying levels by both foreign influence from the US neocons and Israeli Zionists, as well as by other political factions such as Common Purpose.

Propaganda from other sources based on outright lies corrupted what people thought, both in Government and the General population.

I was as corrupted as anyone else, and had even supported the first Iraq War, because I had taken the propaganda from mainstream sources, and didn’t know for example that Saddam Hussein had been given the Green Light by the US Government to invade Iraq. I didn’t know that half a million Iraqi kids had effectively been killed by sanctions before the latest Iraq War – and that Madeline Albright had stated clearly in a US TV interview that “it was worth the cost”

Until I retired and had the time to educate myself in matters other than that required to do my job, I was living in a state of complete ignorance about history, politics and almost everything with regards to how the real world is.

I think even now that most of the people making policy decisions which affect the future of our country and the world are making those decisions based on misinformation and powerful political objectives completely alien to the interests of the people living in this country and the rest of the world.

The War on Terror simply replaced the Cold War and was an artificial construct, based on the need of a perceived enemy for politicians to control populations by fear.

Instead of moving forward to massively improve human and all life existence on the planet in the New Millennium, we have entered a disastrous phase which ultimately will destroy us all, unless people have the guts to stand up to this evil and tell the Truth.

UK complicity in Torture is just One Example of the Human Race’s descent into Evil and Depravity. More than 50% of Americans are in favour of it.

Changing that will probably take a Generation of Enlightenment, but we are in danger of exterminating ourselves before we ever get there.

    correction to above edit?

“Saddam Hussein had been given the Green Light by the US Government to invade Iraq.”

    should read

“Saddam Hussein had been given the Green Light by the US Government for Iraq to invade Kuwait.”

Gibson will definitely be dead by the time the torture inquiry comes to be heard, if ever it does. That’s what they do Craig. In STD experiments in the southern states, where people were deliberately infected with syphilis, Bill Clinton apologised sixty-five years after these Mengele-type experiments. Pardon me for swearing but what fucking good is that to the poor sods infected? And it is too late to prosecute the criminals who infected them.
    .
    http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/health/jan-june97/tuskegee_5-16.html
    .
Then Hilary Clinton apologised in 2010 for similar experiments the Yanks perpetrated on Guatemalans.
    .
In the year 2050, or thereabouts, some twat will stand up amd apologise for the Yanks spreading Aids throughout Africa. And 10 years after that the truth about the murder of David Kelly will emerge (unless Dr Halpin succeeds where Dominic Grieve failed the British Public). If somebody is imprisoned without trial they are no longer entitled to a trial if there is no evidence against them. My country, and its ally countries, are sick, and I am sick of the sickness.

  • Tris

William Hague is such a sad joke of a foreign secretary.

Of course he wants to draw a line under the torture issue.

We would all like to draw lines under things that are irritants to us, but only a fool expects it to happen.

William is that kind of fool.

  • doug scorgie

    Craig,
“It has been decided that numerous legal cases and pretend police investigations have to conclude before the inquiry can start…”
Strange that the Leveson inquiry has begun before the police investigations have ended. The police and cps lawyers have complained that the inquiry may touch on details that could predudice any future prosecutions. But the show goes on regardless.

  • Harry

Craig, I think you are being very narrow minded in your views on torture. I think the ancients have a lot to teach us in these matters. There are all sorts of people I would love to “put to the question”. GusOD, Tony Blair, Dick Cheney. Without, alternative methods, do you really think these inveterate liars will tell the truth?

  • John Goss

Tony-opmoc, I agree with your analysis about the War on Terror replacing the Cold War. Nation States always need an enemy, or perceived enemy, abroad to concentrate on and detract from problems at home. I’m glad you came to realise what a nasty warmongering bunch on the whole get elected to the House of Commons.

  • CanSpeccy

I thought I submitted this before. But anyhow, he’s a second shot at it:
    .
    All empires use torture.
    .
The British had an empire and they now serve as sidekick-in-chief to the American empire.
    .
Therefore the British have always used torture and still do.
    .
    Ain’t logic wonderful.
    .
And news reports provide all necessary confirmation:
    .
During Kenya’s struggle for independence, the Brits are said to have used pliars to crush the testicles of men under interrogation.
    .
Then there was that renegade” torture unit in Iraq.
    .
As for Hague, send him to the Hague along with the other Libya war criminals in cabinet.

  • tony_opmoc

    Harry,

I disagree with you completely. Once we descend into the techniques used by The Inquisition, we all become Roman Catholics.

Tony Blair will probably never tell the Truth, but after a full and fair trial, he should not be executed (I don’t believe in that either), but he should be jailed for the rest of his life…

On condition that he is treated fairly and humanely 6 days a week, and for one day each week, he should be exhibited in a cage outside the Tower of London to entertain the Tourists.

Thanks passerby, who would have thought that the US is trying to immulate Stasi methods. Its a brilliant way of using public gun ownership to reduce the population, soon this course will be on their curriculum, Columbine eat your heart out.

It fits with the genetic pre determining some fascists suggest for schools, zapping the ‘criminal elements’ of the future.

You can only create chaotics like that in a scared society with a low educational standard.

A sad record and an indication that todays society is seriously sick, going on for terminal.

    Craig,

I was brought up as a Roman Catholic, was an altar, and my parents programmed me to be a Catholic Priest. I was never sexually abused.

The mental abuse was something else though.

I actually touched “the host” on my first holy communion.

I touched the body and blood of Jesus Christ whilst it was on my tongue when I was 7 years old.

I couldn’t confess it or even tell my Mum.

I had committed a mortal sin and was going to hell for all eternity.

Until you understand the power of religion, you ain’t got a clue what is driving these psychos to their apocalypse.

    I escaped when I was 15

    I preferred Girls

    Irony doesn’t touch the surface.

However, Christian Morality was hard programmed into my brain.

I am soon off down the pub to see loads a bands, and will no longer make any sense.
