Honours Among Thieves 49

Personally I don’t care if he is called His Holy Magnificence Viceroy Goodwin of the Water of Leith. The Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Battenberg familiy three times offered to honour me (LVO, OBE and CVO) and three times I politely refused. I did not think my worth as an individual would be enhanced by being covered in bling by Greco-German midgets.

Come to think of it, German Liz has been subsidising Greek Phil for sixty years. See how modern the Royal Family is – they even provided the model for the Euro.

Goodwin is a distraction from the fact that the resources of socirty are being channelled to the super-rich and unproductive as never before. Thousands of “bankers” in London are getting millions each in bonuses. These people are so regardless of the views of society and of the plight of others as to be truly sociopathic.

Let them keep their baubles, and wear them on their prison uniforms.

‘RBS went from net assets of £80 bill to liabilities of £1.3 trillion in 10 years. those liabilities belong to the UK taxpayer who now owns 83%.’
Larry Levin, do you know where the money went to?

The French think that our politicians and Royalty are incredibly sexually repressed. Can you imagine trying to establish a French Royal Blood line? We regret to inform you that the Royal bleu’d line is a little blurred. Applications for the post of Les Majestie will be answered first come , first served.
    .
I don’t know whether the French are more intelligent or more cowardly to come out of Afghanistan early. Speaking as a person whose ancestors chose to migrate from persecution as Protestants in France to freedom under the likes of Charles Crawford, I sometimes wonder what other newcomers to this country make of us. Our only saving grace seems to be that by and large we choose to be governed by foreigners and we can always point to our neighbours as being so much worse.
    .
Come on Craig, me old sausage, it could be worse. We could have Imam Charlie defender of all faiths ruling over us in a specially extended kilt, and we will probably get a brace of Goldsmiths instead. In this country the richest and most important slags still have to mind their p-s and q-s in bed.
Darling, couldn’t we get up to some hanky panky in one of your choppers? No darling, you see they’ve crimped a miniature video camera to the end of my willie, to stop 500 years of blood line and head of the church of England coming to an end. If we did that, there would be a revolution like the french Revolution, and if that happened we’d probably both be dead.

Used to be frowned upon, but as we progress with deregulation, in its wake makes room for the morality and decency to retreat.

    Ruth,
To pay the off the lost bets that were made by Fred the shred.
    ,
The trick of financial wizardry lies in making casino rules look all respectable and scientific. Although when gamblers go bust, they never get millions paid to them for being losers, however because these gamblers/Fred/et al are very well connected and their bank/house/casino is too big to lose/fail, then the banks/house/casino gets a helping of tax funds, you know the same funds they have avoided paying into, and wriggled out of paying it, as a primer sort of, so that the whole Ponzi game can start all over.
    ,
I ought to be a billionaire too, but I only know the principles and lack the connections, so no dice.

Don’t gamblers get little bits of plastic from their bets? They say that bank lending is counted as assets, and borrowing counted as losses. So he betted with holes rather than plastic, losses rather than credit. There didn’t need to be any actual transaction so long as there was a theoretical loss. You buy a car on credit and export it to Nigeria – double bank loss. You pretend to lend the money for a fictional car and claim on the insurance ( us ) for its disappearance – double bank gain. Fred Goodwin built one of the biggest black holes in business. Just because they sacked him doesn’t mean they’re going to tell us how he conned us. They might look stupid, these Whagues and Vcables, but they are paid to keep the bubble up, and the illusion of terror looming, whereas in reality it’s the other way round, there is absolutely no recession, just a monster scam; no threat from Islam, just a lot of money being made from security and busy bomb and bullet factories.
The disappearers should not object if they are themselves disappeared – all of them, not just the scapegoat odd one.

Hours and hours of debate and voting in the House of Lords were a complete waste of time and money.

We have just been told by Ofwat that we will be paying 6% more for OUR water.
    Yet British Water (have you ever heard of them?) will be co-operating with Israel. I am assuming that the water supply companies are members but it is difficult to establish when using the website. {http://www.britishwater.co.uk/Default.aspx}

    .
    A reminder
The report, “Troubled Waters: Palestinians Denied Fair Access to Water,” says Israel uses more than 80 per cent of the water from the Mountain Aquifer, the main source of underground water in Israel and the OPT, while restricting Palestinian access to 20 per cent. Israel takes all the water from the Jordan River, the Palestinians get none.
    .

In the Gaza Strip, 90 to 95 per cent of the water from its only water resource, the Coastal Aquifer, is contaminated and unfit for human consumption. Yet, Israel does not allow the transfer of water from the Mountain Aquifer in the West Bank to Gaza. And because of the blockade on the Gaza Strip and the stringent restrictions imposed by Israel on the entry into Gaza of material and equipment necessary for the development and repair of infrastructure have caused further deterioration of the water and sanitation situation in Gaza, which has reached a crisis point.

Yes the water companies belong to British Water. Four of them participate in this conference. http://www.britishwater.co.uk/Data/Global/File/AMP%20Cycle/Regulation%20conference.pdf
    .
The purpose of this one-day conference is to look at the impact the ongoing cycle has on the supply chain, water companies and customers. We will investigate how water companies and the supply chain can work together to flatten the profile of expenditure and increase efficiency for the benefit of all, and is specifically aimed at:
    • UK water service and water only companies
    • contractors
    • Consultants
    • Manufacturers
    • Suppliers
    • Regulators
    • Government departments
    • Other interested parties

    .
Q Is ‘flattening the profile of expenditure’ a euphemism for upping the profits at the expense of the consumer?

Student Loans chief ‘to pay tax at source’
Ed Lester’s appointment was approved by Universities Minister David Willetts
    .
The head of the Student Loans Company will have tax and National Insurance payments deducted from his £182,000 pay package in future, ministers say.
    .
BBC Newsnight reported that Ed Lester was not added to the SLC payroll when he was given a two-year contract in January 2011.
    .
He was paid through a private firm – an arrangement agreed with tax chiefs.
    .
Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander told MPs Mr Lester’s tax and NI would now be deducted “at source”.

Mark Golding : I agree, Merkel is there to kiss backsides, and save her bacon.. she is not in a position to persuade (dictate). It is too much to hope China will Persuade Europe not to follow USA so blindly.
Belgium already in recession and the other Eurozone countries to follow!
Does not seem so peachy for Britain either as India has just cancelled a deal which was in the pipeline worth almost the entire British annual Military export, so UK like every other country has to bid for the contract again (and grease a few palms no doubt)

i don’t think he should ever have had any honour as it’s a seedy corrupt way of paying off your partners in crime while you are in Govt.
At the same time, it’s so small minded to take it away. If there crimes, punish !!
If there were illgotten gains, then fine very large. The facts are that many got away with alot and Sir Fred is the can that got kicked, but he’s still allowed to keep his lot.
    How twisted is that ?
Well done in non acceptance Craig.
The Lords are just a reminder of how undemocratic Britain has been.
If the HAVE’s don’t like it, it doesn’t become Law !!
Between the Lords and Lobbyists, there is little democracy in Westminster.

I think Pierre’s point (because I too read Kelley’s book) was that George VI was (possibly) not the biological father of Elizabeth (current Queen) and Margaret. On the other hand, if Nurture rather than Nature, then they are as German as anything (including from rather more recently, Prince Albert and (Queen Mary)

The suggestion that one of the young officers hanging around the palace would help out is interesting. After all, these were probably the only non-related men that the girls in the family met. As a result, Elizabeth married one, Margaret was engaged to one and Anne married two!

I suspect that we would find American genes (poor titled men and rich girls) in the minor aristocracy – see Churchill or Astor for examples

One way to reform the honours system would be to set a quota each year and then action them off. You know …… so many dukedoms, earldoms, knighthoods, etc. available each year. That way people could pay cash and help reduce the national debt; I suspect we would get a better class of candidate too.

Recently came across your blog and thankful for finding it. The older I get the more interested I become in ‘ affairs ‘ and the things allegedly done on my behalf by politicians.

On to Fred, I actually think that removing his honour is more about keeping the too wee, too poor, too stupid argument against Scottish Indepenedence in the media. Funny how the announcement is made the same day that Samsung announce major investment in Fife while an oil refinery in England sadly looks like going under. Over recent months the Scottish Government has successfully brought inward investment to Scotland. I suspect that this is not going down well within the Unionist camps. I believe that yet another ammendment is being made to the Scotland Bill that would bar the First Minister from going overseas for trade purposes without the agreement of the Scottish secretary. For myself it all just seems to add up.

As far as honours go, and head of state arrnagements, I think the whole system is a sham. To allegedly live in a democracy where we have unelected place men and women and an unelected head of state is something not to be proud of. That my children can’t dream of being head os state of Scotland is a disgrace and sums up this countries obcession at the top to maintain the status of the few and to keep the rest where they should be. Scottish Independence I believe would be a step in the right direction and could possibly lead to English Indepenedence whish would be good for England, it might just at long last break the undue influence of the few at the top fighting to keep their place while keeping the rest of us blind.

Is this being fair to Phil the Dane (if we are to be accurate as to his origins)? He had a very promising career as a naval officer, till Princess Liz made him an offer he found hard to refuse as a refugee prince (though the affair left Osla Benning singing “Tennessee waltz”, I believe).
