Massive Growth in Non-Existent Crime 227

It is lead news in every outlet of the mainstream media today that there is a massive increase in terrorism – as everyone can plainly see from all the bodies littering our streets.

I can also tell you that there is a massive increase in the threat of deadly asteroids about to hit Britain and destroy us all. My unimpeachable evidence for the existence of this massive asteroid threat is my own anti-asteroid activity. I and my dedicated team have visited 268 sites this year where we thought an asteroid was about to strike. That represents a 40% increase on our activity last year and therefore the media can say a 40% increase in the asteroid threat.

Thankfully due to the brilliance and never-ceasing vigilance of my anti-asteroid team the world has been saved. We can continue to do this if given a further 15% budget increase to 32 billion pounds and the right to arrest anyone anytime who looks a bit dusky, and take Theresa May to pose in their home.

There will also be a new crime of denying that asteroids are dangerous or looking at videos and pictures of asteroids. Anybody found guilty of looking at asteroids in other countries will be found guilty of treason and hung drawn and quartered.

Youknow my name 2.46 The Glesga airport incident whilst in your opinion “was far more like a protest than any serious attempt at harm to individuals” did entail the urgent retrofitting of most UK airports with car-free plazas meaning miles to walk through oodles of ‘no-shopping by landrover’ type bollards.

Overstuffed people lugging overstuffed cases for miles – what’s not to like about that? (Smiley insert)

    Happy birthday Craig.

    Great post Craig…Nice Humour

you mentioned Russel Brand on Wednesday…here he is getting up to some of you’re own old tricks – Being banned LATE from tv interview.. .
Brand was meant to be on The Sean Hannity show, but Fox News without explanation canceled the actor’s interview After he had arrived in New York.

Brand then decided to Film his Trews outside Fox news..taking on Hannity, and Bill O Riley..over such things as Fear mongering, Islamophobia…till he got threatened with arrest.

    well Said Mr Brand –

“The implication being that if an intended terrorist attack is bungled, it’s OK and not really an intended terrorist attack?

Of course it depends on who the terrorists are, if you’re Menachem Begin, and you blow up a hotel, then you end up being awarded, the Nobel prize for peace.”

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thanks you for “answering” on behalf of DonnyDarkside, ROQU.

I don’t think I said anything about who the terrorists were, ROQU. I was asking whether, in DonnyDarkside’s opinion and based on his comments, a terrorist attack becomes not a terrorist attack if it is bungled and therefore unsuccessful.

You mention Begin. But you’ll be aware of the saying “yesterday’s terrorist is today’s statesman”; Jomo Kenyatta (for example) refers. Not, of course, that I think that the two doctors who perpetrated the bungled terrorist attack are or will be statesmen. 🙂

    Chump!

  • DoNNyDarKo

I was saying that a schoolboy with a basic knowledge of chemistry could’ve done better than the Doc’S Re-Habb.Is stupidity terrorism? Then you’re guilty also.

Hmm! Quite, I was thinking of Yitzhak Shamir, leader of the Jewish terrorist gangs, Irgun and the even more radical Stern Gang, who’s atrocities are well documented, Shamir’s lets call them deeds, led him to become Prime Minister, statesman indeed.

I suppose though you do have a point, Mandela was part of the notorious MK hand of the ANC, and like Shamir hid under the nome de plume, of freedom fighter.

In your opinion, did the two doctors aim to commit an act of terrorism?

If not, how would you characterise the act they planned and carried out?

  • Iain Orr

All who comment on Craig’s blogs know of terrorism’s importance for security and foreign policy in the UK and elsewhere. The range of views goes from: “The state and its agencies are not to be trusted: they have been captured by those with money and power who will do anything to protect their advantages” to those who say “Most people have freely voted for the principle that the first duty of the state is to protect its citizens. Not to hunt down terrorists is to fail at the most basic level.”

That’s quite a gulf. By chance I came today on a book which addresses many of the issues: Edgar Tambo’s “ US-UK Counter-Terrorism after 9/11: A quantitative approach” (Routledge 2014 in the series “Contemporary Terrorism Studies”). [I should declare an interest here: I have never met or communicated with the author, but his father is a good friend.] Amazon shows that the hardback – not yet catalogued by the British Library – is ridiculously expensive, though you can have a free peek at some of the pages. However, the 2011 PhD thesis on which the book is based – “Assessing British and American Counter-Terrorism: Intelligence, Law Enforcement and Military Force (2006-2009)” – is on ETHOS. That’s available through the British Library. I’ll happily forward a Dropbox copy of the thesis to anyone who’d like it.[My email is [email protected] ] The argument of the thesis is this:

“Based on the UK’s counter-terrorism strategy, the framework is divided into three aspects of analysis – protect, prevent and pursue. The thesis finds that both the UK and USA have developed effective strategies in protecting the state from the threat of terrorism. However, both states have failed to adequately develop structures to prevent radicalisation thus reducing the likelihood of stemming the threat of transnational terrorism.”

Discussing this is hardly appropriate to a website where many contributions are well-turned brief personal insults. However, anyone interested in reading and discussing this thesis – through emails – and who lacks access to ETHOS can ask me for a Dropbox copy (my email is [email protected]). I’d welcome help in analyzing an issue that engages us and all the government agencies we love, hate or worry about.

It would be instructive if we could have ‘notes’ as per the occasional drift into moderation. Otherwise it seems arbitrary and highly selective enforcement. Is there a coherent policy other than ‘I don’t like that’ in the offing MODS?

  • Ben E. Geserit Muad'Dib Further Confounding Gender Speculators

Still waiting for a response. Don’t wait for permission to speak.

  • Rehmat

The definition of “Terrorism” is based on the personal nature of each individual. For example, Rabbi David Wolpe of LA Sinai Temple, was declared America’s most influential “religious authority” by Jewish Newsweek magazine a few years ago. Wolpe in his latest book, ‘David the Divided Heart’, has claimed that “David’s achievements in helping unite the Jews did not come without cost – he had innocent people killed, looked away violence among his children and bedded married women.”

I should think Mods do nothing without consent. Otherwise, there’s hell to pay for volunteers, who are charged with defending speech rights.

At the very least there should be a form of amnesty on Craig’s B’Day. Why delete sofia’s comment?

I’m not dropping this query until I get a reasonable response.

The War on Terror: A guide to the perplexed.

The Iraqi government are our friends in the fight against IS who are our enemies, so we must bomb them, but IS is funded by Saudi Arabia, whom are our friends who ,
unlike President Assad of Syria who is our enemy. We feel the urge to bomb him and we support and arm those like IS who fight against him and oppose those countries like Iran who support our friends the Iraqi government against IS but are still our enemies.

Now you might ask, how, if some of our friends are our enemies and some of our enemies are our friends, we are going to succeed in our latest intervention?

Look we know it might seem a bit complicated and you don’t really need to understand because we can do all that kind of thing for you and anyway we know things which, if we were irresponsible enough to tell you, would make your hair stand on end, so you’ve just got to let us blow lots of people up to keep them and you safe and anyway we can come and blow you up too if you turn awkward or ask too many questions.

When the people we want to defeat are defeated, we know they will likely be replaced by people we like even less so we’ll invade and bomb again to drive out the new terrorists who weren’t there when we invaded and bombed in the first place to make the world safe from the first lot of terrorists who weren’t there either, then when they are defeated they’re sure to be replaced by more people who we like even lesser and…

I hope you feel reassured now.

    Terror comes in many forms.

Opinion is divided over whether ebola is a potential pandemic or a hyped up scam. Probably the latter, in my opinion, therefore I am not surprised to discover that rather than appoint a health expert to co-ordinate the battle against ebola, Obama has appointed a lobbyist. Yes, Obama’s ‘Ebola czar’ is Ron Klain. He has zero medical training or background, but an impressive portfolio as a financial scamster. From Wikipedia:

“Klain [helped in] convincing Congress and Fannie Mae’s regulators that Fannie Mae wasn’t doing anything dangerous, and wasn’t exposing taxpayers to risk. In other words, Ron Klain got paid to help fuel the housing bubble up until a couple of years before it popped.”

How long can it be before our health centres and hospitals are staffed by PR consultants. We’ll be sent home untreated with a leaflet explaining how lucky we are to live in a country which hands out leaflets.

PS, while typing this, I noticed that the mainstream media always capitalises ebola (=Ebola). Why? We don’t write about Measles or Flu. I can only imagine it’s a subtle ploy to invest it with extra importance, more circumstantial evidence that this snowballing avalanching chain reaction viral terror is just another scam.

“Opinion is divided over whether ebola is a potential pandemic or a hyped up scam. Probably the latter”

This may be the dumbest thing I’ve heard from you. Enterovirus and swine or bird flu may be more of a threat from the perspective of global infection, but it doesn’t melt your face off your skull. Christ. Get some perspective man.

    Ben.

Who said chivalry is dead? You’re a star.

What got zapped was a reference to DoNNyDarKo at 9:38 pm, which tickled me enough to want to see repeated. Nothing worth losing sleep about, although, naturally, brilliant!

Here’s something for both you and the Mod to enjoy while you wait.

    ” although, naturally, brilliant!”

No doubt sofia. That’s part of the reason I’m upset. The other part is the overarching issue of moderation, which has no consistency.

I don’t tolerate bullshit as much as I did when younger and less cranky.
