A Game of Substitution 436

“J K Rowling’s always been batshit insane, this is nothing new”.
“Why are people just surprised about J K Rowling now – she has been this mental for years.”
“The, I presume, mentally ill, J K Rowling”
“J K Rowling should get F back to England”
“Don’t feel too bad for that lunatic J K Rowling” – followed by a sexual reference to her partner.

The newspapers would be full of stories tomorrow about this dreadful cyber-abuse. But that will not happen because all those tweets were about me, and all sent within the last twenty minutes, from identifiable unionist tweeters, some well known. Substitute Craig Murray for J K Rowling and they are verbatim. Just do a twitter search on craig murray and see for yourself.

I have never much been into Twitter. When I post here it is automatically tweeted, that is all. It is only today I realised how much you can see of twitter conversations and the interesting links between people. I had not realised that the execrable Carl Gardner, former very junior government lawyer and anti-Assange campaigner, has such warm links with anti-Muslim pro-torture campaigner Douglas Murray of the Henry Jackson Society, Vice President Jim Murphy. And how very interesting to see Blair MacDougall, Ross McTernan, Allan Massie, Euan Mccolm and numerous others from Scotland’s corporate media, all tweeting each other about how absolutely ridiculous it is to believe that the UK state would ever be involved in anything nefarious.

The same people were, of course, tweeting each other euphorically about how fantastically Jim Murphy had demolished Nicola Sturgeon in the leaders’ debates. It subsequently turned out nobody in the country saw it the same way as their smug little gang. I fear they will find the same is true now. Indeed, in the two hours since I posted, over twice as many people have already read about the false flag schemes, as the entire membership of Scottish Labour. That is more than the circulation of the Scotsman. There’s a thought.

The same people, of course, told you I was lying when I blew the whistle on torture and extraordinary rendition in 2004. The security services and the British Government would never do such a thing, they said. I was insane, they said.

Everybody now knows that I was telling the truth about torture and extraordinary rendition, and the Labour Government and the establishment shills were the liars. I am telling the truth again now and they are lying again now.

    more good news from GCHQ

A GCHQ spokesman said: “We completely reject the assertions made in the press release from Amnesty International …[ Liberty and Privacy International], which do not reflect the judgments of the Investigatory Powers Tribunal (IPT).

“The IPT was clear in its December judgment that the legal regime is lawful, and that GCHQ does not seek to carry out mass surveillance. The government will be vigorously defending this case at the European Court of Human Rights.”

the Investigatory Powers Tribunal (IPT), which has jurisdiction over GCHQ, MI5 and MI6, ruled that the UK legal regime for the UK government’s mass surveillance practices was compliant with human rights.

The Tribunal held considerable portions of the proceedings in secret.

    according to the gloucestershireecho.co.uk

of course, I’d suggest that all these sites were visited with the EFF plug-in “privacy Badger” active on your Browser
    [can you believe that the Daily Mail alone has around 109 different tracking elements on a typical story}

If the UK government just made GCHQ into an advertising agency, then it’d be fully compliant with US law, probably

contrast & compare news from ‘stroke’ city Derry/Londonderry with an allegation of overt-annoyance

    http://www.londonderrysentinel.co.uk/news/local-news/lord-carlisle-found-a-good-level-of-attrition-was-achieved-against-a-very-dangerous-threat-1-6668193

A strong and mutually supportive relationship between MI5 and the PSNI is helping to achieve a “good level of attrition” against those behind the ongoing “very dangerous, unpredictable terrorist threat” in Northern Ireland.

The majority of informers being used to combat this threat are being run by the PSNI.

There is also “solid scrutiny and review” of the interception of telephone and internet communications by the authorities to tackle violent dissident republicanism “in an environment in which communications technology is developing quickly.”

These are amongst the conclusions of Lord Carlisle, the independent reviewer of national security arrangements in Northern Ireland.

The use of informers – or Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS) as they are known officially – has also been effective, she [Theresa Villiers, Sec of State] said.

“All activity and decision making concerning CHIS are documented carefully and European Convention on Human Rights issues are fully considered. There is a rigorous legal and policy framework for dealing with CHIS.

“The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 2000, and associated orders and codes, provide the legal framework for authorising and managing CHIS within the UK in a way that is compatible with the European Convention on Human Rights, and particularly the right to privacy.

“It requires that use of a CHIS is subject to prior senior officer authorisation, limits the purposes for which the CHIS may be used, ensures detailed records are maintained, establishes independent oversight and inspection, and provides an independent appeals mechanism to investigate complaints.”

but a different view of the way MI5 operates was discussed in the Mirror concerning and individual court-case

Property developer Philip Kerr took Britain’s spooks to court over allegations he has been bugged and stalked.

His £500,000 legal action even claimed that spies had trained birds to tap on his window in attempts to intimidate him.

A judge this month refused to strike out the claim at the request of MI5, which said it would neither confirm nor deny the allegations, in line with procedure.

Trained Birds!? we just used to throw a handful of breadcrumbs on someone’s window-ledge whilst ‘hazing’ for fun

Mr Kerr’s barrister Anthony Barraclough told the Liverpool Echo: “This is the first time anyone has sued MI5 for an injunction to stop harassment and Mr Kerr was taken seriously and he won the first round.

“The proceedings were put on hold while he goes, if he wishes, to the IPT.

“If they investigate and make any rulings that MI5 do not obey, he can go back and reopen the High Court case.

“He has started and will not be stopped.

“MI5 are not pleased because they thought his claim would be thrown out and it’s only on hold.”

In the legal papers Mr Kerr claimed that he has been approached by agents, who planted cameras and microphones in his various homes.

They also, he claimed, interfered with his phones, television and radio.

He claims was approached by MI5 in 2003 … Mr Kerr, who was the victim of an underworld assassination attempt in London in 1992, says MI5 waged its campaign after he refused to provide intelligence on Smith, Warren and other gangland figures.

He previously said: “My case simply is that I am being unlawfully harassed by the security services and I wish this harassment to stop.

“At first, I know it seems absurd.

“But I have witnesses to a lot of the strange things that have gone on.”

Summing up the background to the case, Senior Master Fontaine said: “The claimant alleges that he has been subject to harassment by the Security Service by a course of conduct from March 2002 to September 2014, comprising 149 incidents.

“He says that this course of conduct, which includes stalking and surveillance, has been carried out overtly, rather than covertly, by MI5 in order to persuade or force him by intimidation to work with the Security Service.

“He seeks only an injunction to prevent the Security Service from carrying out continued harassment in the manner in which he alleges it has been done, and not damages.”

I’m quite sure the cyber abuse is well co-ordinated by these Unionist Tweeters Craig. Luckily you seem to have a thick skin.I seem to remember they directed more lethal means towards you after Uzbekistan.Sticks and stones will break your bones, but tweets will never harm you.

BrianFujisan: Was out at Kilcreggan visiting friends yesterday and saw what you mentioned.. still on the way back drove past Faslane and saw the biggest crowds there I’ve seen.It does give you hope.Fallon said last week that Trident is Scotlands biggest employer…rubbish, but more likely Scotlands biggest generator of Police overtime.
Fallon also said that 4 nuclear subs was the minimum we needed…he never mentioned how often there are serious incidents with them or the time they spend being refitted, repaired.
How on earth are we supposed to feel safe with all these faulty subs / their missiles stored in the mountain at the back of Faslane and all of the Russian/Chinese/Israeli warheads pointing at them.
Seriously time for the British Govt to protect its citizens and get rid of Trident.

@ Mary “Have this one too for good measure.” It is right to maintain pressure on Israel to respect the legitimate human rights of Palestinians fully, since it is only by treating Palestinians justly that Israel will ensure its long-term security.

Thanks for the video link, but it isn’t Portencross. Looks like Ardneil Bay to me, about 1-2km further down the coast from Portencross. I know it well, having grown up in that area, and visited regularly while my parents were alive. Taken the family dog for many a walk along that shore.

    Thanks for the memories …

    Thank you Brian …

    Morning all.

I realise not for the first time how this country works, that most ‘conflict’ (as if we are even a consideration for many foreign powers) are presented to keep us, the peasants, in fear. For that is what most are.

Why do people think Cameron makes all these threats? To take way your porn, or intact this or that law. He’s knows he could not do them, it’s not the point, the point is the threats, constant threats.

    The trigger has no gun.

Get up out of your shit. sigh.

What about rearranging your sign-off expletive, when ired, making it a pronounceable acronym:
“Forcad”? That would save time and space and allow your message to get through systems which filter out the F- and C-words.

I could have wept. I am watching a live election debate on BBC News hosted by the excellent Victoria Derbyshire in Newcastle. The subject is the economy.

A lovely young girl with Titian red hair gave this account of living in one of the richest countries in the world. She is at the one time a university student resident at home, a carer and a part time worker on a zero hours contract. She also has health issues but did not elucidate.

Some months, her income can be as low as £30 or £40. Because she is a student and has a job, she does not qualify for ANY government help. She gets by with help from her mother’s savings. She has no self pity.

Answering the audience are politicians from the ‘parties’.

One among those is Matthew Hancock. See below.

‘Zero credibility’: UK energy minister accepted £18k from leading climate change sceptic — RT UK
Britain’s energy and climate change minister, Matthew Hancock accepted £18,000 from key supporter of Britain’s most prolific climate skeptic lobby, it has emerged.
    http://rt.com/uk/248605-climate-skeptic-donations-hancock/

How Matthew Hancock voted on Welfare and Benefits #
Voted very strongly for reducing housing benefit for social tenants deemed to have excess bedrooms (which Labour describe as the “bedroom tax”)
Voted moderately against raising welfare benefits at least in line with prices
Voted very strongly against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness or disability
Voted strongly for making local councils responsible for helping those in financial need afford their council tax and reducing the amount spent on such support
Voted strongly for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits
Voted strongly against spending public money to create guaranteed jobs for young people who have spent a long time unemployed

He picks up large donations elsewhere even £7,250 from the Tetra Pak heiress and £31,000 from Tattersalls and monies from the horseracing industry including a stud since 2010.

Not a ‘rogue mind’ but a mind that sees through the troll clearly.

I had been reading up about Operation Gladio, more from the dirty tricks departments of the Western ‘democracies’.

‘Operation Gladio (Italian: Operazione Gladio) is the codename for a clandestine North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) “stay-behind” operation in Italy during the Cold War. Its purpose was to continue armed resistance in the event of a Warsaw Pact invasion and conquest. Although Gladio specifically refers to the Italian branch of the NATO stay-behind organizations, “Operation Gladio” is used as an informal name for all of them. The name Gladio is the Italian form of gladius, a type of Roman shortsword. Stay-behind operations occurred in many NATO and even some neutral countries.’

    Video – harrowing to view
Gaza may be a warzone, but everyday life for its inhabitants has to continue. RTD follows young students of a Gaza City music school who have lived through three major military conflicts since 2008. They have survived the destruction, endured the horror of shelling and seen people die first hand. Some have even come close to death themselves. But despite their experiences, they remain hopeful that peace will eventually come. Until then, they seek comfort in music.

Richard does some great analysis, I get it. But do wish sometimes he’d use easier words.

Though, perhaps people need this boost.

Be nice if people shared and promoted this stuff more. 15 views in 4 days on youtube. Think I could promote this by a factor of 10, alone.

It’s a sad sight, watching grown adults accept the voice of authority. The security services a) exist, b) are well-staffed, c) have a large budget, d) are subject to little – if any – oversight. Nothing controversial in any of these statements, but so often people just won’t accept that these security services do occassionally get up to a little mischief. By which I mean corrupt and anti-democratic tricks, of course.

Once, I studied a bit of history. No historian, but do like to read the odd text. In hindsight, however, I see that the security services didn’t get enough space, and that ‘conspiracies’ were never fully explored. Perhaps the erudite readers of this blog can point out a few historical texts which don’t have this disadvantage; there surely are a few. But History, really, is all about conspiracy. Things that powerful people don’t like to tell us. Why did WW1 occur? I personally have no idea. I know that the Archduke fella got killed, and that there were all these alliances that were in play – but none of this explains 4 years of horrific, sadistic slaughter. Unless there were a lot of powerful people who were genuinely certifiable, which I certainly do not rule out.

Craig isn’t certifiable, far as I can see, but these neocons – they all have cold, mad eyes and speak in the language of glib. Fuck ups the lot of them

Fred linked an Indy article suggesting (admittedly in translation) that if Denmark joined NATO its naval fleet would be nuked by Russia. Hmm. Russia is likely to respond to NATO aggression (defensive the Indy calls NATO bases) creeping ever closer to its borders. I doubt it would be a nuclear attack on Denmark’s navy. I do not even think Denmark will join NATO.

Something in Russia was destroyed when the Soviet Union peacefully capitulated to public demands.

“Twenty years ago, we were not defeated. We surrendered. We did not lose militarily, but culturally. We really just wanted to be like them. Rock-n-roll did more than all the nuclear warheads. Hollywood was stronger than the threats and ultimatums. The roar of Harley-Davidsons during the Cold War was louder than the roar of jet fighters and bombers.

America, you are such a fool! All you had to do was wait twenty years — and we would have been forever yours. Twenty years of vegetarianism — and our politicians themselves would have handed over our nuclear weapons; even shaking your hands in gratitude for taking them away. What a blessing that you turned out to be such a fool, America!”

Dmitry Sokolov-Mitrich had seen the America of the free, the Hollywood America where everyone has ‘loads of money’ and freedom of expression. He believed in a myth. In twelve months the US-led coup in Kiev has brought his imaginary Utopia into a stark reality of what the US and Europe is all about. It has cost us the moral ground. So many disillusioned Russians now see us for what we are.

The Greens are a plucky ‘little’ party aren’t they…

    Fair play, respect.

“Anarchy claims to be God, King, and Law, rejecting all traditional sources of authority and power. Some choose to follow him. As his forces proceed with their destruction, even Hope cries out in despair. Finally, however, a mist of hope emerges, carrying thoughts. This revives Hope and kills Anarchy. The land of England seems to speak to the English, asking them to rise and retake true freedom, since they really have been oppressed and should fight back.”

Masque of Anarchy, 1819 by Percy Bysshe Shelley

    Seumas Milne, probably the only decent journalist at the Guardian worth reading, writes about Yemen;

    http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/apr/08/us-wars-barack-obama-saudi-arabia-yemen

    Contains this highlighting of hypocrisy so beloved of certain commentators here;

“Compare Hadi’s treatment with the fully elected former president of Ukraine, whose flight from Kiev to another part of the country a year ago was considered by the western powers to have somehow legitimised his overthrow, and it’s clear how elastic these things can be.”
