Down From the Mountain 426

I had been spending the last few days living here in Avatime district while visiting Ghanaian friends nearby. Away from internet, TV and any other distraction, it has given me a chance to ponder what next to do with my life.

This has been a real problem. Have submitted Sikunder Burnes to the publishers, and while there is still editing and proofs, a huge amount of time is now free. My determination to dedicate myself to working for Scottish independence led to my comprehensive rejection by the SNP. This left me confused as to what I might usefully do with my life. I suppose the question I have been pondering is, what good am I?

I have come up with a potential answer, and will out it later this week.

Climate change deniers should come to Ghana. Not only have changing rainfall patterns devastated the hydro-electric system, life has become extremely hard for farmers. The last decade has seen the highly predictable wet and dry seasons become wildly unpredictable. It has been unseasonally raining heavily on me all over Ghana. The situation is extremely difficult for farmers. Mango farmers are now praying for relief from the rain for the next six weeks or the mangoes won’t flower. The continuing rains may already have adversely affected next year’s harvest. Meeting cocoa farmers today. Am now in Kumasi.

    CanSpeccy, Whistler is north of Vancouver and way inland.

    I’m talking about the coastal mountains. Perhaps you can give us present links that show the high coastal mountains with snow?

    Tony 3.29pm—-Thanks for posting Bob Dylan song–I’ve never heard it before. Really great words.

    RoS

    Sorry, I was talking Philoprogenitals, as usual.

    Canspeccy

    RoS has in the spirit of chivalry been unwittingly defending your indefensible racism. If I’d known it was you complaining about immigrants ethnicity again I’d have seen your drift straight away.

    Bangles and baubles are still being used by neo-cons to buy cheap land exactly the same as the original colonials in Africa and the Australias. The baubles are residence in the UK and a few benefits, while the land is sold by corrupt politicians in the country of origin.

    Why don’t you complain about the big bucks corruption and the illegal invasions instead of the arrival of bauble-hunters in developed countries. We have bankrupted our own technological superiority in favour of war and plunder.
    Why would anyone try and solve climate change when millions of hectares of land are up for grabs through war and terror?

    The genocide is real, but not as you describe it. After a short pause for reflection that our plundering of the world nearly put us under Nazi domination, Mrs Thatcher decided to carry on plundering the world. It’s really sick of you to describe those fleeing our genocide as committing genocide against us.

    The goldfish are plotting to sell us as prizes in see-through plastic bags.

    I just love people who don’t know what the feck they’re talking about.

    CanSpeccy, the word is ‘coastal’ mountains.

    I’ve lived in British Columbia, and I do know what I’m talking about.

    I repeat, perhaps you can give us present links that show the high coastal mountains with snow?

    I’ll try to show a credible newslink that backs-up what I’m saying, but this isn’t easy because of the ongoing total news blackout about all things Fukushima.

    @CanSpeccy Would you mind sharing where you’re getting your birth rates from?

    According to the World Bank, the actual birth rate for Libya has been falling for decades and now stands at 2.4 which although higher than the UK or Scottish average is nowhere near your figure.

    Statistically, immigrant women living in the UK also have fewer children here than they would at home (usually because they have them later in life in order to be able to provide for them). So the roughly 22,000 Libyans now living in the UK won’t be having anywhere near enough babies to make a difference.

    My point is that birth rates worldwide have been falling sharply for decades and although there are countries with the kind of high birthrates you quoted, very few of them are coming to Scotland which has until the 1990s been a net-out migration country.

    Case in point:

    According to Migration Observatory, here are the fifteen largest immigrant groups to Scotland with their respective birthrates:

    1. Poland = 1.3
    2. India = 2.5
    3. Ireland = 2.0
    4. Germany = 1.4
    5. Pakistan 3.2
    6. USA = 1.9
    7. China 1.7
    8. South Africa = 2.4
    9. Nigeria = 6
    10.Canada = 1.6
    11.Australia = 1.9
    12.Hongkong = 1.1
    13.France = 2.0
    14.Italy = 1.4
    15.Spain = 1.3

    (The only other group mentioned in the most recent census which is missing from this list is Bangladesh, their home birthrate is 2.2)

    Nigeria is the only group with a high birthrate (which is also falling) but their total number in Scotland is less than ten thousand. At a 50/50 male female split and let’s say a very generous 50/50 assumption for women of childbearing age vs children/older women, that’s 0.2% of all of the women of childbearing age in Scotland – too small to register, even if they’re having three to four times as many children as Scottish women.

    “So, yeah, keep bearing down on the indigenous birthrate to make room for more dusky Muslims in kilts.” Alfred

    You really cannot parody this stuff. It’s better than the Edinburgh Fringe. In order to increase the white birthrate, Alfred, you may wish to become the first male pregnancy in Scotland. Remember though, not to “bear down” until the second stage of labour. I think that our sage Devonian genocidal immigrant biologist to the Far Western Lands of the Indigenous Indians/Native Americans/Indian Nation would do well to set up a show this summer, entitled, ‘The Thoughts Of Chairman Alf’.

    Stends ta reason, dannit. Or perhaps: Hoots, mon! Och aye the noo!

    “RoS has in the spirit of chivalry been unwittingly defending your indefensible racism.”‘

    I love how a liberal always resorts to hate speech when they have no argument, and then go on to some irrelevant spiel completely beside the point.

    @ RobG

    “I lived in British Columbia”

    So what? Are you telling us that the Web Cam at Whistler is a fake, or that Google has Whistler at the wrong place on the map. Or are you saying you were too idle to click the informative links I provided?

    @Charlie

    “@CanSpeccy Would you mind sharing where you’re getting your birth rates from?”

    A polite question for a change, that deserves a polite answer:

    Here’s a source: The Office of National Statistics. Hope that’s good enough for you. (see the final paragraph:

    This short story has looked at fertility rates for EU countries, which make up around a quarter of the non-UK births in England and Wales. Women born in non-EU countries show an even larger range of TFR values, from around 5.6 for Libya down to 1.1 for South Korea. More detail on these fertility patterns, and those of other world countries and regions can be found in a short report on 2011 fertility patterns by mother’s country of birth.)

    ” I enjoyed reading Frazer’s comment “.. Same here Fedup, and i hope your Idea Blossoms Too.

    ” what good am I? ”

    Another Profound Question We should all ask every once in a while.

    Some may be in a position to Be of more good, than others. and always our Family, and Friends Need our Presence…They Can in fact Keep us alive.

    Best wishes all

    Canspeccy is paid by the coal and gas lobby, folks, please excuse his expletives, its all in a days job.
    Apparently he does have family and enjoys going to the pub, but now and then…… he talks shite when he’s pished.

    Alfred, you may wish to become the first male pregnancy in Scotland

    Suhayl how are you coming along with the project mixing the gene pool? How many white women have you made love to today? 🙂

    After you and your sons have been sowing your seeds with all the white women out there. The dastardly plots hatched by you and your sons have left alfred with no women to get it on with!!!!! the self loathing immigrant has no choice by become pregnant all in the way of preserving the “white power” you know! (it is either that or the seals and seals will probably won’t let him near them!)

  • RobG

    This is propaganda…

    http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2015/10/bc-winter-2016-warmest-on-record-snow/

    … but it does tell you that there is no snow on the coastal mountains.

    It’s propaganda because it blames the lack of snow on ‘climate change’ (and I repeat, this is the first time in recorded history that there’s been no snow on the high coastal mountains).

    The temperatures in BC have not been unusually high this year. In fact, they’ve had some crap weather throughout the summer.

    It’s all down to the elephant in the room, called Fukushima (for those unfamiliar with all this stuff, the west coast of North America is downwind and downstream of Japan).

    The north Pacific Ocean is now almost dead. Over the last four years there have been massive wildlife die-offs the like of which has never been seen before. All the fishing industries have been decimated. The entire coast from Alaska down to Mexico has been shut down for commercial fisherman.

    Barely any of it gets reported.

    But once again I know I’m wasting me breath with all this, the most important/disastrous event that’s ever happened in human history.

    The human race have always been a suicide pact waiting to happen.

    And Craig ponders on what he is going to do next.

  • nevermind

    Hallo El ninio, can you hear us, what about all that extra rain in Ghana and the warmest October in history in the UK, are you trying to tell us something? Are these west Antarctic glaciers weeping?

    Hang on a sec. while we immerse canspeccy under glacial waterfall, cryo-energy seems to be all the rage these days, it might work, his brain might get sufficient water to get going again. soon he might realise that the dominant apes have not managed to stop being apes?

    and are hence, doomed. So, everyone, enjoy your grandchildren whilst Obumhole and dear leader still give you the chance.

  • Charlie

    Thanks for the link, CanSpeccy. Reading the actual report this is based on, they state that for small populations the total fertility rate may be a statistic artefact. This is because TFR as opposed to the more widely used general fertility rate (a.k.a. birth rate) is based on counting the actual numbers of births per thousand women.

    Given the small population as that of the group you quoted, Libya, which is estimated at under 22,000 (out of 56 million living in England and Wales), I refer you to my comment re Nigerian immigrants – statistically and in real life far too small to register and would also suggest, that this is one such artefact.

    P.S. That story you linked to re Sumte, the German village of 100 expected to house 1000 refugees – if you read the locals’ comments in their native German, they are incredibly bemused by all the fuss and highly offended at the way this has been spun in the media abroad.

    They are a friendly and welcoming people the North Germans, stoic, too. They held a meeting where they discussed the practicalities of temporarily housing the 500 refugees they will be receiving over the next few days and how this will be worked out in practice. What they wish for the most, actually, is for the media, not the refugees to leave. Of course, they got invaded by the (non-local) anti-immigrant brigade spouting their hateful slogans and told them to bog off in no uncertain terms.

  • fedup

    Nevermind fact that I loath to sound like the self hating immigrant, but for the coal and gas lobby or for that matter for any in the hydrocarbon lobby there is no need to try and get involved in denial of any sorts!!!

    These lobbies own the whole lot of the selected politicos, why should they get involved in micro management?

    However there is the other side of the coin; higher taxation; to protect the environment!!! Carbon Tax, to protect the environment, 5 pence on supermarket bags that cost a faction of that money, of course to protect the environment!

    Have you noticed the constant? Environment needs a lot of money to protect it, trouble is all the money raised somehow finds other uses, and environment is left wanting so more taxation is called for.

    Have you ever thought why did the ice ages occur? Was it dinosaurs farting too much methane into atmosphere?

    Finally only a few hundred years ago everyone was convinced that Earth is flat! These days despite the astronauts journey into space Earth is apparently immune from any changes in space and the corner of the space that it is ripping through at the speed of 68000 miles an hour!

  • Suhayl Saadi

    “Suhayl how are you coming along with the project mixing the gene pool? How many white women have you made love to today! FedUp

    Ha! FedUp, nudge-nudge, wink-wink! I do wish I led such an exciting, Casanova-esque life!

    But it is enough for me to be Alfred’s worst nightmare. Suffice then to intone a la Arnie straight into the hypnagogic undulations of Alfred Burdett’s subconscious, “I’m beck.”

    V good Suhayl or should I address you as ‘Sudail Sahdi’. That insult was uncalled for Can Speccy/Alfred.

    Also good for a laugh and worthy of an episode from Corrie is a tale from Todmorden. The mayor, the fourth wife of Cherie’s dad, has stolen a bin from a neighbour with whom she had a feud, and taken it to the dump. The district judge discharged the case although Mrs Booth admitted guilt.

    @CanSpeccy although I understand that nothing will alleviate your fears, in the case of the Libyan mothers with the high TFR you found so worrying, here are three more points the authors of the report make:

    1. While they confirm my earlier point stating that women from high birth rate countries tend to have a lower TFR as residents of the UK, for war torn countries with a normally low birth rate, the opposite may be true. Women from conflict regions, so the authors, are more likely to delay having children until they and their future children are safe.

    2. They go on to say that the birth rate among those women normalizes after a few years and again falls to the birth rate common in their native country, whereas women from high birth rate countries are more likely not to revert back to their native one, instead staying closer to the British one. In short this means that subsequent generations have TFRs similar to UK ones and that those Libyan mothers will not continue to have a TFR of 5.6 for decades to come.

    3. The total fertility rate given also ignores the fathers of these children completely. Consequently, the statistic does not reflect whether these women have children within their ethnic group or with British men. You cannot therefore simply assume that their ethnic group is growing at an equal rate with the birth rate.

    First rule of life. Don’t waste time talking climate with some oik pulling slogans out his ass, even if it’s witty wordplay like, Climate has always changed and always will. If he can’t address the issues in IPCC Assessment Report Chapter 9,

    https://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report/ar5/wg1/WG1AR5_Chapter09_FINAL.pdf

    he has no idea what he’s talking about. Some of these Dunning-Kruger experts can’t solve a 1st order linear differential equation and they’re presuming to pass judgement on the IPCC models. Most of them run to the internet for a few cherry-picked facts from hired 3rd-rate academics. They wind up unable to engage the statistical, empirical, or numerical considerations.

    “Canspeccy is paid by the coal and gas lobby”

    LOL

    Some of the comments here are are so totally nuts, it’s difficult not to conclude that they must be made by a mindless sock puppet — worked by Saadi perhaps. I mean, when your novels are selling on Amazon at a penny a piece, you gotta do something to bring in some cash. Then the question is: who’s cash? Maybe here’s a clue: Soros admits his role in busting up the European nation states:

    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2015/11/02/soros-admits-involvement-in-migrant-crisis-national-borders-are-the-obstacle/

  • CanSpeccy

    Here’s one example of the sheer lunacy of comment here:

    “there is no snow on the coastal mountains.”

    That after I provided a link to the Whistler webcam which updates every 15 minutes and which shows the whole Whistler valley on the southern flank of the Coast Mountain Range covered in snow.

    Crazy blog, crazy people.

    But I suppose the sane response is to stay away, which I will do for now.

    Over here in the UK, Craig Murray has written* of this sort of thing during the Scottish referendum, and it was also detailed in Seamus Milne’s book https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Enemy_Within_(1994_book)

    Corbyn is clearly anathema to their world view so it will be very interesting to see how they choose to approach this, especially now that Milne is his Director of Communications.

    great promotion news, trebles all round, a Brit is now advising the yanks:

    In an official announcement, the Pentagon said that the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) had chosen Air Vice Marshal Sean Corbett of Britain’s Royal Air Force (RAF) as its first “deputy director for Commonwealth Integration.”

    The Pentagon said that Corbett, presently the RAF’s top professional intelligence officer, would be top advisor to DIA director Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart on defence and intelligence issues concerning an alliance of English-speaking countries known as the “Five Eyes”

    advising on Snoopper’s charter stuff like this, crikey!, ?

    Australian telcos were forced to hand over customer data to law enforcement agencies without the need for a warrant more than 600,000 times in the last financial year, even before Attorney-General George Brandis’ mandatory data retention scheme was in place.

    The Australian Communications and Media Authority revealed 824,841 disclosures were made of customer data [in 2014-2015]

    that’s rather a lot of disclosed intercept from terrorists, paedos, journalists and politicians in Aus then? (one in 29 people?; I bet it was ‘full-take’ anyway, reaching one in one of the ~ 24Million)

    I am delighted to hear you have finished your book. What a lot of work you have put into it, I look forward to reading it.

    I am sure there are many things you can do and that you will make a good choice.

    I have to admit however that I would love to read another book from you on Africa.

    You are a light in the darkness Craig
