Boycott 729 – Boycott Israel 5

Boycott, Disinvestment and Sanctions are a peaceful response to Israel’s continued illegal occupation, repression and brutal military operations against the Palestinians. Useful links can be found on the Boycott Israel site.

Another useful site for those interested in Boycotting Israeli Goods can be found at: http://www.bigcampaign.org/

…and if anyone really wants to know more about how bar codes work then here is a good place to start… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GS1

Caution: If you are an US individual or organisation then boycotting Israeli goods is illegal! (US Department of Commerce). I guess its further proof that organisations like these are highly effective.

This blog has certainly been set alight by Craig's recent entries. But I'm not going to get involved in the endless loops of arguments and counter-arguments, claims and counter-claims. I'm a human being and I know murder when I see it.

Thanks for the barcode info above. For those who wish to support Palestinian trade there are a couple of good on-line stores that I have used and have received excellent service:

I buy Palestinian olive oil here:
    http://www.olivecoop.com/catalog/

    I have bought clothes here:
    http://www.palestineonlinestore.com/

One order I placed with the second site got caught up in the Lebanon debacle a couple of years ago, making it very difficult for the store to fulfil because of extensive travel restrictions placed on Palestinians. But they kept me completely informed of what was happening. And so desperate are the people who run these stores to hold on to customers and fulfil orders whatever difficulties they have at their end, that they sent me an extra garment as a gift completely free of charge to compensate for the delays.

I recommend these sites if you want to support Palestinian trade.

Thanks for spreading the message of Boycott. The apartheid regime of South Africa and Rhodesia were brought down not because they were morally Abhorrent but because of Sanctions and boycotts.

Despite the best efforts of the US and Western Israeli sympathetic media, the satellite and the Internet has for first time shown the world the brutality that Israel is committing in Palestine. Boycott of Israel must become a mindset like Apartheid South Africa no one wants to be associated with.

You wrote: "If you are an US individual or organisation then boycotting Israeli goods is illegal!"

This is incorrect. It is a violation of US law for a firm to boycott Israeli businesses in cooperation with a boycott of Israel organized by another country or firm from another country. It is not a violation for an individual to boycott all things Israeli, and such a law could not be enforced anyway. Nor is it a violation for any business to simply not patronize Israeli concerns. The law is explicitly tied to foreign boycotts that the United States does not support.

In other words, American law does not ~ and cannot ~ compel anyone to do business with Israel. Israel's pet Congress forbids US firms from joining or "cooperating with" a boycott of Israel organized by non-US interests or required by non-US interests as a condition of doing business with them.

I can boycott Israel, and call upon others to do so. I'm not a "firm" doing business with foreign business partners.

    "Israel: Boycott, Divest, Sanction"

    "By Naomi Klein – January 8th, 2009"

"It's time. Long past time. The best strategy to end the increasingly bloody occupation is for Israel to become the target of the kind of global movement that put an end to apartheid in South Africa."

"In July 2005 a huge coalition of Palestinian groups laid out plans to do just that. They called on "people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era." The campaign Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions?"BDS for short?"was born."…
