This 2009 rally in Oslo was attended by Breivik’s heroine, Pamela Geller. On Saturday I posted about the comments Breivik made on Geller’s Atlas Shrugs website. There is a fuller analysis on the impact of the Tea Party on Breivik’s thinking here. It turns out that Breivik also references Geller’s Atlas Shrugs blog and a related hate filled website, The Gates of Vienna, in his tedious anti-muslim manifesto.
It is therefore highly likely that Breivik would have noted Geller’s visit to Norway and gone to hear her. The occasion was a rally in support of Israel’s Gaza massacre of over 1,900 Palestinians in Operation Cast Lead. It would be a fruitful line of inquiry for the police to investigate why Geller decided to go all the way from Tennessee to Oslo for such a small rally (the majority of people in that photo, those across the road, are demonstrating against the rally). Who invited the hate preacher? Why? And did she meet Breivik in person?
It is worth noting that the English Defence League, supported by both Geller and Breivik, also held pro-massace rallies at this time. This is Geller on the EDL:

This is Breivik on the EDL:

One of the things we know about Breivik is that he was a dedicated video wargamer. On this online wargaming forum a poster calling himself Norge (Norway) says that he was at that rally and goes on to make numerous anti-Muslim remarks in very much Breivik’s calm style. Now, that is a small crowd to contain two rabidly anti-Muslim Norwegian wargame fanatics, particularly as various reports – including on that forum – indicate most of the pro-massacre group was elderly, and less likely to video wargame. If Norge is indeed Breivik, then he is in that photograph at Geller’s rally. If Norge is not Breivik, then police should trace someone whose interests and political actions were so close to Breivik’s, and see if they were connected.
Isn’t it extraordinary that right wing terrorists are seldom called terrorists, and are always said to have acted alone. Muslim terrorists, however, are always part of the international al-Qaida network, even when they and their motives were obviously homegrown. Any connection by any Muslim terrorist to any mosque or preacher is sufficient to condemn that mosque or preacher loudly in the media as an instigator of terrorism – even though they may never have heard of the terrorist. There are people in Guantanamo for approaching a decade just because they were at the same meeting as someone else. Yet exactly the same kind of links by Breivik to his right wing hate preaching US inspirers like Geller are simply glossed over by the mainstream media.
Right wingers always are just crazed individuals acting alone in the official narrative. But that is plainly untrue.
I can understand the line, adopted by all the mainstream media, that Breivik’s trial should be heard in secret because he should not gain a platform through his evil actions to spout his poisonous propaganda. But I cannot resist the suspicion that the right wing will be delighted to minimise the information that may come out about Breivik’s right wing connections.

Mary, it is almost impossible to hear the sound of one’s own language – psychologically the pure sound is overwhelmed by our effort to interpret meaning.
I was once lucky enough to hear English as it sounds. Having been living in Spain and only speaking (and thinking) in Spanish I came out of the shower one day to the beautiful intriguing sound of my flatmates radio in another room. I was drawn to a strangely familiar melodic voice and as I approached I realised it was an English woman on the BBC World Service. Meaning kicked in and the experience had gone.
I have never forgotten this privileged moment.

True, but the media’s differing treatment of far right terrorism & muslim terrorism extends to other areas as well. The latter is often said to be related to a ‘root cause’ be it Israel/Palestine, Kashmir, Iraq etc. This excuse is rarely deployed in the case of far right terrorism. (Breivik himself seems to want to play this card, however- hence his court appearance today being held in camera).
I also find it interesting that Grauniad types who normally warn against ‘moral panic’ after heinous crimes take place indulge in this vice to the full when heinous crimes are committed by far right extremists like Breivik. Their belief in ‘liberal sentancing guidelines’ also tends to go out of the window when confronted by cases such as this.
The reactions of most people to terrible events like Oslo are knee-jerk & atavistic; cool-headed consistency is very hard to attain in these circumstances.

AngrySoba, yes you are right the 911 attacks where very professional. they did after all manage to bring down the third building just by wishing it. And you are right the mubai attacks where an example of a highly efficient and planned terrorist attack.
I was thinking more of the glasgow airport attack, or richard reid or the guys arrested for terrorism charges because of paintballing, or the deadly plot to blow up airoplanes using ink cartridges.
I think my point was that if someone was really intent on carrying out terrorist attacks then they would be planned in detail, just like the mubai attack or the norway attack. For years the french resistance sabotaged railway lines, or fuel depots, but it seems that the height of muslim planning attacks in the west is a bomb strapped to their chest.

‘Norge’ isn’t Breivik.
I’m a gamer myself. ‘Norge’s taste in games isn’t the same as Breivik’s. Brevik, contrary to what you claim, isn’t a wargamer. He likes mainstream “first person shooters”(games where you see through the eyes of a guy with a gun, shooting at bad guys) -his favourite is called ‘Modern Warfare 2’, which might have confused you – and “role playing games” – games where you control a character moving through a fantasy world solving quests. ‘Norge’ on the other hand, plays wargames (games where the player moves an army about a map trying to fight a battle) from the ‘Total War’ series.
In one post, Norge says that Modern Warfare 3 ‘looks like the same crap we’ve had for 3 years now’, which I parse to mean he’s dismissing Modern Warfare 2, and another game called ‘Black Ops’ -games from the same series released in the past 3 years, as ‘crap’. MW2 is Breivik’s favourite first person shooter.
Breivik’s online writings reference the terms ‘cultural marxists’ and ‘multiculturalism’ heavily. ‘Norge’ rarely, if ever, uses either.
‘Norge’ is very pro-Israel, signing off with Israeli flags and the word ‘Shalom’. Breivik is also Zionist, but it seems to be a minor focus of his attention.
And the one that convinces me:
Breivik hates rock music. ‘Norge’ lists his favourite bands as ‘Underoath, Alexisonfire, Every time I die, Rise Against, Tool.’.

When I read that Breivik was said to have been active on the blog, Gates of Vienna, it rang a bell with me; about three years ago I posted a pro-Palestinian comment on a YouTube clip, and I received a nasty personal message in my YouTube in-box as a result;

‘Gates of Vienna’ – a reference, of course, to the various Ottoman sieges of Vienna. One of the claims made by EDL leader Stephen Lennon (“Tommy Robinson”) in that appalling softball interview by Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight was that he knew nothing of Daryl Hobson, the EDL member who had revealed links between the EDL and Norwegian terrorist Anders Breivik. Lennon dismissed Hobson as just some “random” member of the EDL’s Facebook page.

Mary: English does not sound weird to Norwegians (but we do learn English from the age of 8 or so), but Norwegian is usually noted as being a language that sounds like singing to most foreigners, mostly because of our vocals =)

That “Norway” signature you mention (on the online wargaming forum) is not Breivik. On this forum he uses the signature “Sigurd Jorsalfare”, As far as I can see from the few posts, he’s only talking about these wargames. And he played a lot.
OAN: I wonder who the writer is behind that “email from Norway” that Pam Geller has on her website. She didn’t give out the name, but when I read it, it sure sounds as Breivik’s rantings. Notice also that signature “magnus andersson”. Very similar to Breivik too. He used a lot of aliases on the net – among them also “year2180” and “year2080”, the latter being in the title of his so called manifesto.
Two, three years ago he wrote on document.no about this “book” of his. He said that, for the past three years he had been working full time with a project and that this book/project was called 2080. He added: BTW, it is 1100 pages.
