Baroness Cox is a prominent supporter of organisations which actively and openly promote the ethnic cleansing of all Palestinians from Gaza. She was incredibly given an Honorary Degree by the University of Dundee in 2006. I call on the students and academic staff of Dundee University to campaign to have this award stripped from her.
It is a matter of shame to me that my University has honoured a woman whose primary political activity is as a promoter of genocide.
Baroness Cox’s support for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians is persistent and consistent. She is the deputy head of the Presidium of the Jerusalem Summit, an organisation which states that:
“The establishment of a Palestinian state must be removed from the political agenda”
The Jerusalem Summit calls for the deportation of all Palestinians from Gaza.
This is not an accidental association of Baroness Cox. She also is a key member of the Israeli Institute of Strategic Studies, which also calls prominently for the ethnic cleansing of all Palestinians from Gaza:
“The only durable solution requires dismantling Gaza, humanitarian relocation of the non-belligerent Arab population, and extension of Israeli sovereignty over the region.”
This is not an issue of freedom of speech. Genocide is in process in Gaza today. To support genocide is not a legitimate academic position within the realm of free debate. Dundee University must end its honouring of Baroness Cox, or be seen as endorsing the legitimacy of her views, which all decent people find obnoxious.
Mary has no intention of becoming a Baronesssssss and it is most improbable that that would ever happen.

I think possibly the media are carrying it as they are surprised to discover that Scotland is a different legal jurisdiction to England. Of course it is true that the US could apply for extradition from Scotland. But there is no reason to believe it would be granted.

Just to say, you call this a “24-day-old conflict”. Actually, I thought it had been going on for nearly 50 years but that would mean mentioning the brutal occupation and I know that’s anathema to you lot down at 200 Gray’s Inn Road. Ok, we better not upset Mr Snow so let’s pretend it’s only 24 days old. Silly me!
Also, is there anything that Israel could do to the Palestinians that you lot would call a “decisive development in the 24-day-old conflict”?
If bombing Palestinian hospitals, blowing up UN/Palestinian schools, destroying Palestinian power stations, murdering Palestinian kids playing football on a beach (I could go on and on…) don’t count as “decisive developments” in the “24 day-old-conflict” what would?
Maybe if Israel dropped a couple of atom bombs on the Strip you might deign to call it a “decisive development”?
I wouldn’t put money on it though. Knowing you lot you’d probably write a subdued “Snowmail” saying “Israel steps up its military campaign in Gaza”.

Well, I was expecting a comment about Jewish courts*, but was hoping for a more intelligent one than that.
Firstly, I see no mention of a “ruling” in the piece quoted by Mary – could you please point me to it? Thank you.
Secondly, one would probably need to look at how the Jewish courts function and whether their rules and proceedings are in accordance with modern ideas of natural justice and whether they run with the flow of – or counter to – the normal law of the land (eg as far as gender discrimination is concerned) before comparing them directly or indirectly with sharia law courts.
By the way, I have no idea what they’re called – perhaps you, who obviously pays a lot of attention to matters Jewish, could enlighten me?

FGM the practice is thought to be originated in Ethiopia in pagan times and as Christmas has turned into a Christian tradition thus the FGM has continued through and is widely an African tradition. If some of these practitioners happen to be Muslims, or Christians and even Jews that somehow does not mean they are carrying out an Islamic, Christian, or Jewish rite.
But what has any of it to do with the good fight? Now back to Palestinians are evil terrorists because all Muslims are evil terrorists.

Mary, I am grateful to see a response. Thank you for being among those protecting a ‘human rights’ perspective. But the blog does the opposite and undermines it. It exacerbates one issue and portrays it as the ultimate test above others. I cannot ascribe to that view. The emphasis on one issue is a strength of those wanting opportunism to gain currency. I hope that any professional human rights campaigners give the blog a miss. So far they obviously do. Which makes this an isolation ward for opinion.
