Independence Here We Come!!!!! 93

Wow! If the exit poll is right, Independence is a nailed on certainty. New Labour a total busted flush, and a Scotland firmly behind the SNP being ruled by David Cameron and a Tory, UKIP and Democratic Unionist coalition. Get down the bookies tomorrow and put your house on independence within five years. We won’t need a referendum. Put your mum’s house on UDI.

You’re assuming the Lib Dems will not join a new coalition with the Tories? With the Lib Dems’ predicted 10, Cameron ought to have enough without UKIP and the DUP.

And – lo and behold – all talk of ballot-rigging and massive electoral fraud is instantly forgotten!

Craig, you have not done your reputation for judgement any favours with your last few posts.

Glasgow central counting room, audible gasps said the Sky presenter, when the exit poll flashed up on the screen.

What’s Russia Today saying? Please keep us up to date through the night.

Hope your right Craig. ..!!!! UDI scary…??? What would that mean. I understand the principal but the logistics ..???

Hope the troll(s) have copious supplies of hot coffee to last the night plus matchsticks to keep their eyes open to enable them to put up their tripe to counter each comment.

    Audrey,

Don’t know, frankly, but I think we’ll get there in two or three years.

    Lysias

Yes, I think the residual Lib Dems will not be stupid enough to re-enter coalition with the Tories

  • Abe Rene

IMO we may well have a repeat of 2010, a Conservative-LibDem coalition.

There may well be considerably more LibDem MPs than 10, and considerably less than 58 SNP wins in Scotland.

As for Scottish UDI or independence within 5 years, I put that down to Craig’s fertile imagination. 🙂

  • Dave

Craig, if this is accurate, great, but we would need a new campaign … simnply “We, teh Scottish people will NOT accept annother term under Tory rule!”

If there is anything gonna bring the situation home to spinless NO voters, it should be our powerlessness when running on all cylinders with 58 MPs!

But surely, with 58 MP’s, and the police run from Hollyrood, the SNP themselves can organise mass civil disobedience. i.e. we just ignore Westminster and run Scotland on SNP policies!

I guess thats daft nieve and silly. But to what extent can the SNP push with that kind of attitude?

The one thing we need, is control over the sodding media!

  • Mary

Cons short by 10. Of course that puff of hot air Clegg will get back into bed with the Tories, assuming he keeps his Sheffield Hallam seat that is. He had a 15,000 majority in 2010.

LDs are predicted to get 10 seats.

  • fedup

How very fortuitous as per the exit polls on ceebeebee the cons have 316 and Cleggies 10 bringing the total to 326 which is just fine for a majority.

How very elegantly the boxes have been stuffed almost poetic!

  • eddie-g

Apparently Yougov have produced their own exit poll which is vastly different from the BBC/Sky/ITV poll. Tories 284, SNP 48.

This election is completely nuts, but a big win for the SNP however you spin it.

That’s what Sinn Fein did in Ireland in 1918-22. The UK tried to resist, but eventually it had to give up the struggle.

Unfortunately, it’s also what the American South did in 1861, but there the North eventually succeeded in its coercion.

What’s the point of me going to sleep tonight when I’ll only have nightmares and wake up in the morning to discover they’re perfectly true and the Tories get a second term. All because some schmucks (who shall remain nameless) decided to vote Tory by proxy via Greens, SNP and Plaid, thereby denying the only credible challenge to the Conservatives that is known as Labour just because these aforementioned haters’ vile, irrational anti-Semitic hatred meant that they could not bring themselves to vote for an atheist Ed Miliband purely because of as random and incidental a fact as his Jewish heritage.

  • wendy

its all a bit stinky. too much corruption in uk elections.

neocon vested interests cannot allow neocon lite miliband into power.

anyway expect riots and authoritarian response from the tories if they win control as they systematically dismantle and destroy ‘society’.

have to say sturgeon danced to the tory fiddle , by threatening to control labour to serve snp demands.

something has not smelled right about these elections from the get go.

  • Tom

If this is anything like the result, it’s very strange. Not what I was sensing during the day at all, nor the feeling I have had in the past few weeks.
I’m not a Labour supporter but I’m very disappointed at the prospect of another five years of the Tories and Lib Dems.
I’m suspicious that the opinion polls could have been so wrong, and that Cameron’s incredibly lacklustre campaign could have been rewarded with these kind of figures.

  • wendy

becky – if anything ukip-ers jumped ship .. as expected – that was always the plan – to draw voters away from labour into the pockets of tories.

ukip-ers are extra dis-enfranchised who would not vote normally .. they are the far right edl/bnp/edl plus closet racists given voice to vent their hate.

  • Mary

Oh dear! Bridget Phillipson has held Houghton and Sunderland South for Liebour.

‘She is an aide to Jim Murphy, the Shadow Secretary of State for International Development’. Wikipedia.

  • wendy

ton – If this is anything like the result, it’s very strange.

theres a reason why tories / media were talking about not giving up 10 downing st.

the polling had 30% undecided. enough to fiddle an election outcome

neocon vested interests matter. expect crackdown against muslims .. islam in the uk if the poll is true.

“Wow! If the exit poll is right, Independence is a nailed on certainty.”

Just to answer Habbabkuk’s no talk of ballot-rigging. First of all it is not a result it is an exit poll. And they are usually right. Secondly, if in the referendum in September last year for Scottish Independence, there had been an exit poll, we might have known what the true result in that referendum had been. I suspect it would have been different from that Westminster said it was. But we will never know.

🙂 Have a good night Habbabkuk.

What a total fucking mess UK politics is. Antiquated system. Not fit for purpose. Idiotic establishment. Useless corporate media.

“Oh, it can only get better…” Yeah, right.

  • Abe Rene

@Becky Cohen “they could not bring themselves to vote for an atheist Ed Milliband purely because of .. his Jewish heritage.” Not true. I didn’t even know that EM was atheist or Jewish. There were plenty of other reasons: was New Labour’s economic screw-ups (selling off the country’s gold at a song, stealing billions from pension funds, giving billions to bail out failing banks to preserve Labour votes), restrictions on civil liberties like South African-style banning orders, betrayal of socialist principles like private-public partnerships and last but not least foreign policy – I voted for Blair in 1997 and 2001, but voted LibDem in protest against the Iraq war in 2005.

Milliband’s stone tablet must have been the last straw for many who might say “what have I done that you should treat me so disrespectfully?”

  • Becky Cohen

“Hope the troll(s) have copious supplies of hot coffee to last the night plus matchsticks to keep their eyes open to enable them to put up their tripe to counter each comment.”

Just don’t bother replying to them, Mary: it’s much healthier for them than using caffeine as an antidote to their insomnia LOL;)

  • RobG

Be careful of exit polls in a close run and very complicated election such as this.

I agree, though, that the SNP will probably be taking most of the seats in Scotland. It really is history in the making.

Lib Dems will be obliterated. As for the other parties, I think the Greens will do much better than expected.

UKIP will be consigned to their garden shed in little England.

  • Lance Vance

SNP- Zero influence in Westminster, and the seats taken from Labour guarantees another Tory led Government. The Nats are fuckin deluded if they think they’ll get another Indy Ref anytime soon.

    Pyrrhic victory I fancy.
