Senator Kit Bond has obviously been repeatedly subjected to swimming/waterboarding and the subsequent negative effects on his mental capacity should serve as a warning to us all of the dangers inherrent in this barbarous tortur technique.

It's the equivocation of these people that is so disgusting, and so symptomatic of the bureaucratic cowardice of the age that Craig describes in his post on the FCO.

"Waterboarding is torture, period". Correct! Putting people's hands and bodies in boiling water is also torture, period. But could you get Jack Straw or all the other Foreign Office salarymen to talk straight on that? We must never forget that the people who are not prepared to speak out and "do the right thing" to stop this stuff are as much the menace as the psychopaths who advocate it and do it.

I read Batavia's graveyard about a dutch 17th century trading ship; Apparently the Dutch east india company also used a form of waterboarding to torture people.

Personnally i find the name waterboarding badly chosen as it does not really describe accurately what takes place. Forcing water into somebody's lungs should be described differently. Incidentally, that is what all forms of waterboarding have in common and what makes it torture…

Perhaps this room temperature IQ Senator thinks waterboarding is the same as surfboarding and is something that is done in California and the GBR?

Perhaps the new name that tjerk advocates could be "forcible drowning"?

"Hard Evidence of US Torturing Prisoners to Death Ignored by Corporate Media"

"Military autopsy reports provide indisputable proof that detainees are being tortured to death while in US military custody. Yet the US corporate media are covering it with the seriousness of a garage sale for the local Baptist Church"…
