Selective Indignation 262

For his first nine years as Prime Minister, Tony Blair appointed NO women to any of the “Great offices of state” over which Corbyn is under such concerted media fire. And he had many less women in his shadow cabinet and cabinet. Yet there was virtually no media comment at all, and none of this line of right wing “feminists” lambasting him.

Explain.

Yet another dose from LK coming over on the 10pm BBC News. This time she is speaking from within the HoC. She has had a really busy day. The poor wee thing must be exhausted.

Can’t avoid seeing Goldman Sachs’ name again. This time as the holders of 45% of the equity of Hastings Direct which is being floated tomorrow. The company is valued at £1.5bn with this first share offering.

Hastings Staff To Share In London Float Windfall
Nearly 2,000 Hastings staff will cash in on a float to be announced on Tuesday that may value it at £1.5bn, Sky News learns.
    http://news.sky.com/story/1552501/hastings-staff-to-share-in-london-float-windfall

‘Banking sources said on Monday that a successful listing would crystallise a huge return for Goldman Sachs, the Wall Street bank, which paid just £150m for more than 45% of Hastings’ equity two years ago.’

    Do they ever make losses?

    This,

And a few others, could be made as comments btl, and i’m sure people would be interested to add there own ideas etc in whatever main topic was above, as it’s the way threads go anyway.

BTW Craig, you can tell when my comments are less than reasonable (over angry) when I miss off the r’s of the ‘your’ words I posted, As my 6:00pm was…

Please don’t answer me about it, if you don’t think it worth regard then just move on, continue doing what your doing, I’d rather not have any reply. I shall continue to plough my own (but probably much less) regardless.

Ishmael, I generally enjoy your posts, and hope you stick around, but please bear in mind that high blood pressure usually lowers life expectancy.

Craig mostly tolerates people who spit on the floor and call the cat a bastard. Remember, though, when you post here you are effectively in his sitting room.

Have a look at Bloomberg’s home page today:

    http://www.bloomberg.com/europe

There is the picture of Jeremy Corbyn and the John McDonnell story one might expect: “Jeremy Corbyn, the new leader of the U.K. Labour Party, named an opponent of Bank of England independence as the party’s Treasury spokesman, in the latest signal of the main opposition’s new political direction. ”

But just above it in fine juxtaposition is a story entitled: “Was Tom Hayes Running the Biggest Financial Conspiracy in History?
Or just taking the fall for one?”

    Worth a read.

It was thanks to the TERFs (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists) in Blair’s government such as Harman and Baird that the majority of transgender women (who do not have GRCs) were erased from the provisions of the 2010 Equality Act. Curiously though, Harman seems to have been a lot more pro-active, nay enthusiastic, on promoting the ‘rights’ of other minority groups instead – but negative ones such as the Paedophile Information Exchange. Transgender women = bad; paedophiles = good. Is this what feminism is all about?

Whining about Corbyn’s male-dominated cabinet is a bit lame. He can only select from what he has, and several senior women have turned him down. My guess is Cooper was in with a chance of Shadow Chancellor, and Kendall Home Sec, but they chose to remain ‘pure’, for when a true Blair-ite returns. That’s up to them; not Corbyn’s fault.

I guess journalists have careers, too. And if attacking Corbyn is the current house-style, then that’s what they’ll do. It seems a peculiar and petty line of attack, but that’s the corporate media for you: deeply, deeply shallow and petty. Being more cynical, you could argue it was an exercise in framing the candidate as an establishment white-guy with a woman issue (he’s been married 3 times, did you know, etc?). Who knows really? I really have to stop reading the Guardian and all the rest; time consuming, and I’m not really sure I learn anything at all, other than insider spin and gossip, which does have some entertainment value.

I appreciate the thought, and you seem ok to me.

Though I would say it’s a public blog, a “polemic” public blog, Maybe it’s other who should consider if treating it like his sitting room is a good idea.

‘Think and fight’, it’s for-thought and consideration. I really don’t think i’m lacking in this but do, very occasionally, just let rip. I don’t think i’m less good than Craig in this regard.

Tariq Ali was on Democracy Now! this morning. He had a great deal to say about Corbyn, and he also revealed — if he said it, I imagine it must be true — that Turnbull has been a republican.

Ps And I note it when I do go ott. And think it a little odd to not give some kind of acknowledgement when someone kindly points it out to me, Or not kindly.

P Harry is back from his conservation work in Africa. Be prepared for a big P Harry media onslaught over the coming months. The media will turn their attention to his activities.

Prince Harry has returned to the UK to start life as a full time royal

It’s absolutely ridiculous. What’s Corbyn supposed to do?

I think he did exactly right to have his closest political ally as Chancellor. Osborne and Cameron are bosom buddies and no-one bats an eyelid. It is his most important working relationship and it would hardly work well if they were continually at loggerheads.

At least four women said no before even being asked: Cooper, Kendall, Reeves and Reynolds.

Given that two leadership candidates said no, he can hardly be blamed for offering a senior post to Burnham. If he left Burnham out he could be accused of splitting the party.

Hilary Benn he left where he was, that’s fair enough, isn’t it?

Those are the four posts that all the fuss is really about. And he can be commended for everything else – his Shadow Cabinet is crammed with women.

It’s bullshit. It’s bloody ridiculous. It’s just an excuse to attack him, and if he had made different arrangements, he would have been attacked for something else, so why bother even trying?

    Kind regards,

    John

Ishmael, I talk as someone who’s been kicked off just about every comment board there is, and most recently kicked off the Guardian, twice.

    @Craig
    14 Sep, 2015 – 9:51 pm

It certainly is a very long and winding, and tortured road that for the usual legal reasons I won’t go into here.

I’ve posted some links showing some of the American reaction to ‘Corbymania’, because I find it an interesting counterpoint. America is often criticised as being the root of all evil (it’s actually the City of London, folks), yet despite how corporate controlled the US media are there is still real dissent in America.

Probably the best recent example of this was the Snowden stuff, and mass surveillance et al. There was/is a real debate about it in America, which included President Obama making a statement.

In Britain there’s been practically nothing, zilch, nada. Likewise with the recent announcement by Cameron about drone assassinations of British citizens.

A similar thing applies to child sex abuse. If the same sort of stuff was going on in the American Establishment there’d be an outcry.

In Britain they continue to wave their limp Union Jacks and say God save the Queen.

I say this as a British passport holder and a Londoner born and bred.

I see that the Mods have listened to Mary’s request to delete a couple of comments of mine.

And then they have very thoughtfully removed the evidence by deleting Mary’s plea.

That’s a bit like the Stalinist tactic of doctoring photos to remove evidence of the presence of un-persons.

    +++++++++++++

I hope the Mods will be equally vigilant when it comes to removing comments that refer to me as a “troll” (Craig’s moderation guidelines refer). Or are they waiting for a plea from me? 🙂

“Given that two leadership candidates said no, he can hardly be blamed for offering a senior post to Burnham. If he left Burnham out he could be accused of splitting the party.”

John, I don’t think Burnham is out of place in this shake-up – what a wonderful shake-up – and I would be surprised if the majority of Andy Burnham’s supporters did not have Jeremy Corbyn as their second preference.

Been travelling lately, so trying to catch-up;on this Thread, because of probable deletions, I’m likely only getting half the story, but Craig’s reply to Ishmael initial comment is simply astonishing, and all for the wrong reasons; firstly it seems to me that Ishmael’s point has gone over Craig’s head, in that the “degrading” refered to, was to the issue of the media bias against Jeremy Corbyn, which really has been the topic of the last few Posts from Craig; putting up a series of little add-ons after-thoughts is weaker than having one sunstantive Post, to which these could have been added, either as comments, or as add-on addendums to the original Post. The problem of a string of little follow-on posts it that they detract & create distance from the initial Post, making the main initial Post fade too fast, and spreading points out over several mini-posts instead of keeping them together in one big substantive post reduces impact. This is what I think Ishmael was reffering to, however if I’m wrong, I’m sure he will correct me.

The other astounishing aspect of Craig reply is the direct rudeness, as well as the oblivious rudeness; being told to effectievly F-Off (start your own blog) is being rude only to Ishmael, but stating that the “point” of this blog is for Craig’s Posts to “provoke thinking in others”, yet paradoxically that this does not mean license to “expound your own views”, (on a self-advertised but oxymoronic named “Free Speech Blog” no less !), is an insult to everybody who comments here with their own thoughts & views! As seemingly all that Craig is interested in, is that his posts only provoke views that he likes!, if he doesn’t like, then “your own views” are not welcomed !

So what are these idiots at Charlie Hebdo trying to do?

The same thing that Julius Streicher did with his Der Stürmer!

The degrees of prevalent racism towards Muslims is an indictment of the psychotic culture that zionist supremacists have successfully transfered to the wider world.

Just check out the “Live leaks” and see the cretins commenting there freely and openly equating the refugees to rats (pictures of groups of rats) and the cure forwarded being pics of zyclon cannisters! BTW this particular site is promoted by beebeecee!!!!

The disgusting inaction of the relevant authorities is indicative of their tacit involvement. Even more disgusting is the degrees of indifference within the “liberal” circles, included this blog that tolerates overt racism towards Muslims in a matter of course fashion.

Yes i seen that earlier.. something of that Vileness must surely be given the Ok from on high.. Re the potential for unrest over it… Don’t it seem like the Elite have Failed to win us over on this..with all the hundreds of thousands in so many cities Showing support for the Refugees.

@ Mary. I think Harman’s front-line career is over, and she’s now a backbencher by choice. Not sure if this is JC related, though I could be wrong.

@ JSD. Totally agree. Apparently there are now 16 women in the shadow cabinet, you’d think certain writers on the Guardian would approve, instead of sniping. Truly, you can’t please some people.

  • Jemand

“I see that the Mods have listened to Mary’s request to delete a couple of comments of mine.

And then they have very thoughtfully removed the evidence by deleting Mary’s plea.”

Indeed, Habbabkuk. It’s all about control. Speech communicates ideas that manifest as thinking and then, sometimes, action. Censorship breaks this link in order to arrest the spread of thoughts and actions. So it is rather telling that comments here are so neatly excised from the commentary record while the blog bemoans establishment propaganda and censorship of dissent.

  • Jemand

“The degrees of prevalent racism towards Muslims …”

Errm.. Islam is not a race. It’s an idea. A bad idea from medieval Arabia. If it’s “racist” to criticize an idea like Islam, then it must be racist to preach hatred for atheists. Ergo, Islam is a “racist” ideology.
