Thanks Villager for the Krisnamurti links. Good points for further thought.

Two comments from Medialens on the Independent piece on B.Liar today.

Tony Blair and Iraq: The damning evidence
Posted by Curtis on April 7, 2013, 9:48 am

While writing about Blair’s lies on Iraqi WMD the Independent just can’t resist the opportunity to recycle more lies about Libya. ‘Libya was the real threat’. Right. And now that Libya has been ‘liberated’ just what happened to its alleged WMD, I can’t recall hearing anything about it in the media.

Good comment below this piece, which whipped up a lot of angry responses from the Independent’s ‘believers’:

“He lied, I was never convinced – he is an evil man. BUT – Where was the press in all of this? The outspoken, free minded press, the last bastion and the critical voice that examines the powerful and exposes their abuses? Up there own arses. Murdoch was selling Bliar’s propaganda – but he’s the soft target. How about you INDPENDENT where were you exactly? huh. Nowhere.”

Re: Tony Blair and Iraq: The damning evidence

Posted by Gloriousrevolution on April 7, 2013, 12:44 pm, in reply to “Tony Blair and Iraq: The damning evidence”

At the time, a robust and clear-sighted press could have demolished the gigantic edifice of lies constructed by Downing Street, and blown it over like the house of cards it really was. The lies and exaggerations were so transparent and obvious that this wouldn’t have required much effort at all. Only the press chose not to do their job and instead chose to trust Tony Blair, facilitating a criminal attack on Iraq cooked-up by a gang of criminals who knew that Iraq was weak, disarmed, and a crippled ‘golden goose’, and 9/11 gave them just the opportunity they needed.

But this narrative cannot really be told in our media because it’s describing a system which isn’t a functioning liberal democracy, but, rather, a state that resembles something close to the Mafia, a gigantic criminal enterprise and conspiracy, removed from popular control, above and contemptuous of the law, steeped in blood, and on the rampage.

The total amount of suffering per year in the natural world is beyond all decent contemplation. During the minute it takes me to compose this sentence, thousands of animals are being eaten alive; others are running for their lives, whimpering with fear; others are being slowly devoured from within by rasping parasites; thousands of all kinds are dying of starvation, thirst and disease.

    — Richard Dawkins, River Out of Eden[Dawkins, pp. 131-32]

Many humans look at nature from an aesthetic perspective and think in terms of biodiversity and the health of ecosystems, but forget that the animals that inhabit these ecosystems are individuals and have their own needs. Disease, starvation, predation, ostracism, and sexual frustration are endemic in so-called healthy ecosystems. The great taboo in the animal rights movement is that most suffering is due to natural causes.

    — Albert, a fictional dog in philosopher Nick Bostrom’s Golden[Bostrom-Alfred]

In sober truth, nearly all the things which men are hanged or imprisoned for doing to one another, are nature’s every day performances. [..] The phrases which ascribe perfection to the course of nature can only be considered as the exaggerations of poetic or devotional feeling, not intended to stand the test of a sober examination. No one, either religious or irreligious, believes that the hurtful agencies of nature, considered as a whole, promote good purposes, in any other way than by inciting human rational creatures to rise up and struggle against them.

    — John Stuart Mill, On Nature[Mill]

The essay on this webpage is well written and informative but I do not (yet) agree with its conclusions.

Mary, not sure what you mean by “Even Krishnamurti”

My view in a nutshell: One of the greatest, most profound thinkers to ever have walked this planet. One could say the Einstein of the Mind.

I know his background very well, so if you have any questions, happy to answer them. But in the end, as he himself emphasised consistently, it is his message that is important, not the man. He thought through EVERY aspect of life — its there for us, there is no need to reinvent the wheel. But to make his revealed truths ones own requires extraordinary and ongoing study, including questioning everything he said. Else it is mere verbal ‘understanding’ at an ‘intellectual’ level, which is just a game, worthless.

You may want to read his biography “Freedom from the Known” by Mary Lutyens who knew him intimately.

You could also read a foreword by Aldous Huxley in K’s book ” The First and Last Freedom ”

If you’re lucky you may be able to download these books for free — many of his books are available as such.

These women and children had to die just like the racehorses had to die presumably Jemand.

Vile. And Mrs May is debating whether to allow 600 Afghan interpreters who ‘helped’ the British army to enter this country.

Afghan children ‘killed by Nato air strike in Shigal’

Up to 12 civilians – 10 children and two women – are reported to have been killed in a Nato air strike in eastern Afghanistan.

A further six women are believed to have been injured in the incident in Shigal district, Kunar province.

Villagers and officials told the BBC that the casualties were inside their homes when they died.

Calls for Britain to offer asylum to Afghan interpreters

    LONDON | Sat Apr 6, 2013 4:27pm BST

(Reuters) – British military and political figures on Saturday called on the government to offer asylum to hundreds of Afghan interpreters at risk of Taliban reprisals now that the soldiers they helped start pulling out of the country.

In an open letter to the Times newspaper, signatories including Britain’s former army chief said there were about 600 interpreters helping British troops in Afghanistan. To date, about 20 have been killed in action and dozens more wounded.

They said Britain had a “moral obligation” to protect these men, many of whom now fear retaliation from Taliban insurgents as the troops prepare for a full exit from the country by the end of 2014.

“The British military’s job in Afghanistan would have been impossible without local interpreters, who have risked their lives and made extraordinary sacrifices just like British soldiers,” the letter read.

The signatories included General Mike Jackson, former head of Britain’s army, Paddy Ashdown, a former high representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Michael Clarke, director of the Royal United Services Institute defence think-tank.

They said the current system of dealing with asylum claims by Afghans on a case-by-case basis was “slow, not transparent and offers no guarantee of success”.

“After the Iraq War the UK gave Iraqi interpreters asylum in this country, but – shamefully – Britain is the only NATO country yet to do this for Afghan interpreters,” they said.

All of Britain’s 9,000 combat troops in Afghanistan are due to leave the country by the end of 2014, with nearly half of them expected to pull out this year.

Britain’s Foreign Office said processes had been set up to ensure that the service provided by former interpreters working with troops is taken into account when individuals apply for asylum in the UK.

“People who have put their life on the line for the United Kingdom will not be abandoned,” a spokesman said.

You make some good points about animal suffering. I largely agree with you. We humans oversentimentalise our relationship with animals. However you do not address the question of whether humans have any moral responsibility towards animals.

Presumably you would agree that a farm animal should be killed humanely at the appropriate time rather than, say, being ripped apart while still alive. If so, you are acknowledging that we do have some moral responsibility towards their welfare, and the argument becomes one of where to draw the line. No unnecessary suffering? Define unnecessary.

I’m not sure where that line comes myself, but injuring/killing animals for human entertainment comes pretty close to it.

For posters who continue not to read the vast amount I have written about how satellite lasers can cause earthquakes, or who just dismiss it by claiming I am some kind of troll or disinformation agent, I suggest that they see the 16-part series I written about it, especially this link with former SoD Robert Gates’ endorsement of it all at the end:

  • Mark Golding - Children of Conflict

Guano – the political Islam you proscribe and cited by Assad here* is conducive to the modus operandi of most humans in a position of power. The corruption of basic beliefs seems to permeate culture and is inimical to social well-being. In political circles kindness exists as a ‘no-show’ unquestionably demonstrated by Blair at his Labour conference in Sept 2006 when he said, “I have come to realise that caring in politics isn’t really about caring”

    * Question: “Mr President, you said that the Turkish government officially and publicly supports the terrorists and provides different kinds of assistance to those terrorist groups, but we know that quite recently you used to enjoy good and friendly relations with Erdogan and the Turkish government. What happened and pushed things to this situation?”

President Assad: “Maybe Erdogan saw in the events taking place in the Arab world an opportunity for him to prolong his political life. This man’s mentality is that of the Muslim Brotherhood, and from our experience in Syria with the Muslim Brotherhood for over 30 years, they are a group of opportunists, who use religion for their personal advantage. He saw that the countries that witnessed revolutions or coup d’états or foreign interventions brought in groups belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood to power.

So, he saw in that a great opportunity for him to remain in power in different forms for many years to come. He turned against Syria because he saw a personal opportunity to remain in power. In the beginning, he tried to interfere in internal Syrian affairs. Even before the crisis, Erdogan was more interested in the Muslim Brotherhood than he was in Syrian-Turkish relations and even more than his interest in Turkey itself. This is the way this person thinks. When these circumstances occurred, he decided to stand by his personal interests and put them before Syrian/Turkish interests. As I said, he tried to interfere in Syrian internal affairs and later this Turkish government started to support the terrorists publically in Syria. They have became deeply involved in the bloodshed in Syria. It is only realistic in this situation for relations to be severed between us.”

    Trow,

You write that the CIA/Military ordered you be killed for writing about secret earthquake satellites. I’m a little puzzled how you can accept that they have been creating artificial earthquakes at will in China, Russia, North Korea, Iran etc yet they were and are totally unable to kill you despite apparently trying.

  • Anon

    Ben, Missed this question earlier.

Other than avoiding all human contact, (even if airborne) what is the most effective, practical defense within reach of the average household, in the event of a breakout?

    http://www.who.int/influenza/human_animal_interface/faq_H7N9/en/index.html

    12. Does treatment exist for influenza A(H7N9) infection?

Laboratory testing conducted in China has shown that the influenza A(H7N9) viruses are sensitive to the anti-influenza drugs known as neuraminidase inhibitors (oseltamivir and zanamivir). When these drugs are given early in the course of illness, they have been found to be effective against seasonal influenza virus and influenza A(H5N1) virus infection. However, at this time, there is no experience with the use of these drugs for the treatment of H7N9 infection.

So Tamiflu and Relenza should hopefully have some beneficial effect if taken early enough but we need more data.

  • Trowbridge H. Ford

    It’s quite simple.

First, it was not the CIA/Military who tried to kill me, but on orders from the Clinton White House, especially Bubba himself and Chief of Staff Leon Panetta for their currying endorsement by the leaders of JFK assassination, especially former DCI Richard Helms, former President Richard Nixon, and General Al ‘Deep Throat’ Haig.

Then my murder had to be made to look like either the result of an accident or a suicide, so I was given minute amounts of some poison when I ate at the Supatra restaurant in Portugal’s Caldas da Rainha, never suspecting what was going on until much later. The poisoning was led by the American Ambassador to Lisbon Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, and the CIA resident there, Michael Thomas as I recall.

The Portugal weekly Ja even printed an article, trashing my theory about the involvement of the above,
and Executive Action Director William King Harvey in the Dallas assassination in the hope of making my death look self-inflicted.

Of coure, there was no way I would do that, having my best friend, a dog named Fresco, and two lovely cats, and all my friends there knew I would never commit suicide.

So the owner of the restaurant, Jose Flour, just kept up the poisoning, knowing that I would ultimate die to the process.

Fortunately, I moved to Sweden in October 1996 to rejoin my girlfriend, cutting short the process, though it started up there when I became an editor of Eye Spy magazine, writing about the Agency’s cockup on 9/11, and its making Manchurian Candidates to help assassinate JFK, MLK, RFK, and Governor George Wallace.

    Need more?

  • Anon

Well if TPTB at the time wanted you to believe you really had some information worth killing for when you didn’t, then making you believe they were trying to kill you (when they weren’t) would seem to be one way to make sure you believed it.

Sounds more plausible to me than actual earthquake producing satellites.

A Node, re morality towards animals

    Thanks for your comment.

No, humans have no “moral” obligation to animals unless you redefine the word.

Morality is a word with an historical meaning and purpose. Its origins are exclusively concerned with inter-human (proscriptions of) behaviour for mutual benefit and conformity with the imaginary laws of dieties (Hi, Jesus!). It could be well argued that every animal species has a moral code built into its instinct system to ensure social harmony amongst its own kind in their common goal of survival of their species. But it is generally exclusive to a species. Lions and sharks have no moral obligations to us. And morality does not exist on a deserted island or in the vacuum of space. Extension of moral consideration to non-human beings is a logical step for humans that empathise with other animals. Indeed, we sometimes see empathy in other animals for individuals of other species. However, we see most consideration being afforded to those beings who are most like us – dolphins, chimpanzees, dogs, horses, tamagotchis. Not many people give a damn about your average Joe worker ant when they step on him.

    You said –
“Presumably you would agree that a farm animal should be killed humanely at the appropriate time rather than, say, being ripped apart while still alive. If so, you are acknowledging that we do have some moral responsibility towards their welfare, and the argument becomes one of where to draw the line. No unnecessary suffering? ..”

No, I don’t agree with that statement. The word “should” implies advice for someone’s benefit. Mine? Yours? I don’t want animals to suffer “unnecessarily” for me, so yeah, they “should” be killed humanely.. for me, or maybe not killed at all. But I can’t give advice on behalf of psychopaths who like their chickens and cows killed in a manner of evil cruelty – nor for most people who don’t seem to give a shit about anything.

I do want farm animals managed humanely but maybe for reasons that others wouldn’t agree with. Animal cruelty is correlated with psychopathology that manifests as criminality – towards other humans. That’s a good reason alone. The rest is a philosophical headache for someone like me who likes eating hamburgers, wearing leather shoes and driving vehicles powered by fossil fuels extracted from devastated animal habitats.

But Mary’s post was completely meaningless. There was simply no defintion of purpose and no subsequent explanation when challenged.

Life and death is cruel. Let’s try to be less cruel but not stupid.

Your claims overlook what happened when – making you sound like someone trying to cover up what John Young volunteered to me when we had a covert meeting in Riverside Park on June 9, 2009 while he was posting my series.

Young asked then why I was doing all this, and I explained that I was essentially a whistleblower. He took the greatest exception to my claim, and wondered if I thought that the Agency was again trying to kill me. I said I didn’t believe so.

He pooh-poohed my ignorance, stating that I was again in its sights, and I was, though it had been stopped by the Swedish Security Service aka Sapo the previous February in Stockholm.

Young was expecting that I, confronted with it mission, would confess to working for some kind of intelligence agency, or receiving leaks from one. He had had the meeting in the park so he could record my confession clearly, and without anyone else knowing about it. Young was quite disappointed by my explanation of why and how I was writing what I was.

The Americans were still not satisfied with my claim of no insider information. While I was away in California from August to October, 2009, the Bureau and Sapo went through my files and computers after breaking into our row house , and when they still found nothing, they poured superglue on some of my files to show their disappointment. Then they tried to set me up a ‘Jihad Jane’s (aka Colleen LaRose and Grwhyr) Muslim lover/assassin of Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, but again without success.

Causing earthquakes with various kinds of NRO laser satellites sounds more plausible than the above, though they both still happened.

When I check your website’s archives under Hunter S Thompson I found you think he too was killed and didn’t commit suicide.

Am I required to comment on your bizarre post equating the deaths of women and children with racehorses? Are you fucking joking? How did you conflate horse racing with the Afghan war?
